Chapter 226: Seeds Of Good Karma
Chapter 226: Seeds Of Good Karma
Expensive as it may be, the item was needed, hence, for 3000 points, Shye purchased an intermediate orb of memories.
'You filthy bastards…' Shye inwardly raged, glaring menacingly at the hooligan adventurers' antics for a few seconds before kicking up a cloud of dust as he furiously charged at the nasty bunch.
Although evidently not high-ranked due to mismatching sets of non-relic equipment, the dastardly adventurers were veterans, thus, their refined instincts allowed them to sense the impending danger from behind.
"H-Hey, Peter, someone's attacking us!" exclaimed one of the five, prompting the middle-aged man in the middle, Peter, to turn his head with an annoyed expression.
"Haa? That unripe squirt? Hold this b*tch, I'll teach this idiot a lesson he'll never forget!" replied Peter, tossing the young girl to one of his underlings before dashing toward Shye with a cold smile on his face.
'Hmmph, too slow!' Shye thought, activating [Power Slash Lv.4] as he ferociously swung his Nightbringer downwards.
"Relic!" exclaimed one of the four underlings upon realizing that Shye's weapon had an element.
"Hahahaha! Since you're kind enough to deliver a relic to me, I won't make it hard for you and end you in a single hit!" laughed Peter as he swung his longsword diagonally upwards to counter Shye's skill-empowered hit.
As an arrogant bully among the common populace, Peter had never encountered a setback since he was skilled at choosing his opponents—bullying the weak and fearing the strong.
Although he was indeed strong (gold-rank) when compared to common adventurers and had secretly slain a few fresh graduates from mediocre academies, he had never gone up against a representative student, thus, he always thought that fresh graduates like Shye were easy pickings.
In addition to this, since Shye was staying in a poor town like this one, then there's next to no chance that he was someone significant at the academy he graduated from.
At least that's what Peter thought.
Unfortunately for him, the one he was fighting was the ace representative of Valenzia Region's strongest academy.
*CLANG!*
A metallic sound reverberated across the town as longsword and greatsword met, however, the results were shocking—for the onlookers at least.
They anticipated the valiant young man to be sent flying backward after the clash, so the current scene, where Peter's longsword snapped in half as he hurtled through the air, caught them completely off guard.
"P-PETER!!" the underling holding the young girl worriedly exclaimed—disbelief written all over his face.
His momentary lapse of focus cost him their greatest asset against Shye: the young girl; their hostage, as Shye quickly slapped the sh*t out of him and seized the young girl from his arms, swiftly bringing her back to her parents' side before the hooligan adventurers could even reorganize their wits.
"Brown!! Hey, Brown! Are you okay? Say something! Brown!!" one of the adventurers who was near Brown, the man who was slapped, shouted as he rushed to his friend's side, vigorously shaking his unconscious body in an attempt to wake him up.
Regrettably, all the shaking accomplished was causing Brown, who was unconscious, to foam at the mouth.
With two members down, the remaining thugs panicked.
They were weaker than their boss though so they didn't fare any better. A few moments later, Shye already finished subduing all five.
To make sure that they won't do anything stupid, he spent another 2000 points to purchase five tough metal chains and tied each one of them up—extra tight.
He then confiscated all of their weapons, storing them inside the system's inventory before giving Peter, who gnashed his teeth while crazily attempting to escape, one solid slap on his left cheek, sending a few of his teeth flying out.
Peter wasn't naive, he knew that he was toast should he allow the inhabitants of the town to file a complaint.
Hence, despite his bloodied face, he vigorously squirmed like a worm, flexing his muscles in an attempt to break through the chains.
Unfortunately for him, the chains Shye purchased from the system were too tough.
To ensure everything went smoothly, Shye invested 500 points in purchasing tranquilizer arrows. He then used the tranquilizer arrowheads to administer five stabs to Peter and three stabs each to his accomplices.
A few seconds later, they all limped—unconscious.
[Congratulations! You've earned 210 points!]
Realizing that the matter was over, the parents of the young girl and the onlookers walked closer to Shye, thanking him for saving their town from the hoodlums.
"S-Sir adventurer…Thank you…Thank you so much for helping my daughter…I thought we'd lose her forever…" the mother of the young girl said, crying her heart out with tears of gratitude.
She was just so relieved.
The bully adventurers looked so strong and her husband would probably die should he go against them, hence, they profusely thanked Shye and their lucky stars for saving their daughter.
Naturally, the daughter herself gave Shye a deep bow, her voice quivering as she sincerely thanked him for this huge favor of saving her life.
In a few weeks' time, the young girl planned to take the Colzen Academy entrance exam.
She had dedicated her life to training for this moment, so she felt confident in her ability to pass, despite hearing the recent news that Colzen unexpectedly won the Adventurer Academy Competition.
The dastardly hoodlums just had to ruin her dreams of becoming a respectable adventurer and give her parents a good life.
Luckily, the heavens weren't blind as a heroic young adventurer suddenly stepped up and saved her from the pits of despair.
"S-Sir, I'm an aspiring adventurer, m-may I at least know the young sir's name so that I can pay you back in the future…" The young girl courageously asked.
Naturally, Shye didn't really expect her to be able to pay him back, as long as she lived a good life, then it was enough of a payback for him.
The hoodlums didn't pose much of a threat to him anyway.
Still, he respectfully answered her question even if her chances of paying him back were next to none.
"I'm Shye Crowley, a Colzen Academy graduate. Not to brag or anything but as you can see I'm quite talented hehehe…so if you want to pay me back, then do your best and let's see each other in a city called Valenzia, okay?"
Realizing how cool, kind, and...handsome the young adventurer in front of her was, the eyes of the young girl shimmered as she enthusiastically replied:
"Okay!"
