Chapter 261: A Mage’s Shopping Spree (2)
Chapter 261: A Mage’s Shopping Spree (2)
'Heh…Hehe…Hehehe…Won't I breeze through quests should I purchase these two?!'
Shye inwardly thought, laughing creepily as he looked at the two skill books as though they were treasures.
The excessively long casting durations of both skills were justified by the immense offensive power they wielded.
Normally, such skills can only be used when hunting monstrous creatures with a party that can protect the mage long enough for the mage to finish the long chant.
However, in Shye's hands, such destructive spells can be used in duels should he desire to do so.
It would probably result in either a death or a grievous wound though.
Putting away the two uncommon skills inside the spatial shopping basket, Shye proceeded toward the rare skills section.
Immediately after arriving, a certain rare skill book labeled as the "best seller" captured Shye's attention.
He quickly grabbed it in excitement only to be disappointed in the next second.
===
[Magic Field(Rare)]
Description:
Create a huge magic field that would reduce one's casting time by half.
Chant:
*Two seconds of gibberish*
===
'Meh…What a lame skill…' Shye inwardly thought, not knowing that most mages would kill if they could purchase this skill.
After all, the skill only has a two-second chant, boasts an expansive effective range, and unlocks a myriad of possibilities for mages once activated.
Only, it was useless for Shye who had instantaneous casting time.
What he needed was…yes…NUKES!!!
Resuming his search for his trump card as a mage, Shye meticulously checked each rare skill book.
While doing so, he couldn't help but overhear the conversation of the two adventurers shopping in a section of the store near him.
"Hey, will you be going to the auction?"
"Haahh…I don't know…I'm trying hard to continuously take on quests to increase my savings but I'm not sure if I can make it. If I can't save up at least 50,000 silver coins in three weeks, I might as well not go."
"Aihh…I'm in the same position…Well, it's still a month from now so we still have a chance."
"Well, we don't have an actual month though. Maybe three weeks and a half at most as we still need to travel to Blackburrow City…"
Upon hearing the contents of the conversation, Shye's ears perked up.
He then momentarily stopped reading the contents of the rare skill book in his hands, once again lost in his thoughts.
'Hoh? An auction? Good thing I have lots of silver coins right now…Blackburrow City huh?' Shye pondered.
He wanted to go to the auction but he didn't know the exact date and time.
'Oh well, Seira or Miss Aya probably knows about it. I'll just ask them later.'
Putting the matter of the auction at the back of his head, Shye resumed his search for a trump card, meticulously flipping through rare skill book pages—one after the other.
Finally, after around half an hour, he found the skill book he was looking for.
===
[(Void)(Dark) Gravitational Drain (Rare)]
Description:
Create a large gravitational magic circle on the ground, drawing the enemy forcefully towards the center while sapping their life force.
Chant:
*Fifteen seconds of gibberish*
===
'H-Holy crap! Isn't this skill too overpowered?!' Shye thought, forgetting the fact that the spell would've been almost impossible to cast in the middle of combat under normal circumstances.
Employing such a perilous spell was bound to attract the notice of monstrous creatures with a sharp sense of danger, compelling them to eliminate the caster before they could complete the incantation.
His ability to cast instantaneously was the sole reason why the skill became so overwhelmingly powerful in his eyes as most mages wouldn't even spare a second glance to such an unusable spell.
After all, if one was interrupted in the middle of one's chant, then one would suffer a backlash, making the caster pay 50% of the skill's mana cost for nothing.
Quick and powerful spells were the name of the game for mages.
Absurdly strong yet extremely slow spells were simply too disadvantageous.
'Well, that should be it!'
Deciding to purchase [(Void)(Dark) Gravitational Drain (Rare)], Shye put the skill book inside the spatial shopping basket.
He then walked towards the counter with a smile on his face.
However, just when he was about to queue, Shye suddenly remembered something.
'Wait…'
Pondering for a short amount of time, Shye decided that trying his theory was worth it.
Weapons weren't as expensive as skills anyway.
Walking quickly towards the elemental staff section, he searched for an appropriate one to purchase.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find the staff he was looking for—one with dark and void bonuses. He even asked a staff member who was stocking the shelves but all he got was a confirmation that this branch doesn't sell such rare stuff.
He was then given a list of Gold Wing branches that sold the kind of staff he was looking for.
Shye didn't have the time to visit those cities for now though, hence, he had no choice but to grab one with a high intelligence and ice elemental bonus.
Still, he was satisfied with his shopping haul.
Shye once more walked towards the counter, queued for around half an hour, and then paid a total price of 165,000 silver coins for everything he purchased, leaving him with only around 685,000 for the upcoming auction.
Well, that was still a lot.
Compared to the adventurer who planned to attend with only 50,000 silver coins, that is.
"Hello sir, you're the customer who purchased a lot of skill books, correct? Do you want to use our skill cylinder to learn your skills?" A staff member offered with a smile on his face.
Shye was about to accept.
Thankfully, he recalled that his ability for instantaneous casting stemmed from skills acquired through the system. Therefore, before responding, he discreetly accessed the adventurer system and stashed a skill book into his inventory.
Subsequently, he pressed the skill book's icon in the inventory and nervously waited for the options to pop up.
[Withdraw]
[Learn]
[Destroy]
Seeing that there was an option to learn the skill through the system, Shye heaved a sigh of relief.
"Thank you for the offer, however, I'll be using these as a gift so I won't be taking you up on that."
"I see, thank you for your purchase, young sir!"
