Chapter 215: Chapter 215 – Peek-A-Boo!

Chapter 215: Chapter 215 – Peek-A-Boo!

Fortunately, the team agreed to the plan .

Facing the boss alone was also a stupid move. The reason why they split up to begin with was just to find the boss' location. After someone found it, they would stay hidden and waited for the other to arrive.

Afterward, they spent a few seconds discussing where they should go before deciding that they should spread in the direction of the wall they protected earlier. It would be easier to remember.

And operation 'Scouting Boss', named by Flexy, started.

After everyone was left in their respective direction, Max began to work alone in the base.

'First of all, let's put around 50 sniper rifle mags around the walls—also, 50 rifle mags and a bag of shotgun ammo. I can use these bags with shotgun ammo to move the magazines easily too; quite convenient.'

The first wave boss usually spawned 10 minutes after the wave started. Exterminating the first cockroach raid in under 10 minutes was a feat that only professional teams and a few others could do. It was a significant benefit for preparing to handle the second wave or find the boss.

Unlike the wave that spread evenly around all 10 bases across the map, only one wave boss spawned each wave, and it gave a good amount of annihilation points to the team that managed to kill it. There was no contribution whatsoever, only the exterminator got points.

Max managed to prepare all the energy magazines and put them in their respective place faster than he had thought. By now, he was used to the space suit and the large sniper slung over his back. And there was no disturbance that made him stop in the middle of his work.

"That's done." He nodded in satisfaction and returned to the North wall.

Standing with his right leg resting on the higher platform, he put his hand on top of the visor to look around. No cockroaches in sight.

The communication device in his ear was active, and he decided to contact them.

"How is the situation, everyone? The base is safe from both roaches or players. I haven't seen a moving shadow in the last 5 minutes."

(Flexy here, there is no sign of shiny black boulders around. The boss should've spawned already, but I can't find it in the South area. I will go back after looking around a bit more.)

(Ferin reports! I found no boss here, but I saw two bases in the distance. I am observing them right now.)

(Similarly. It's probably in the North direction. I will return to the base shortly.)

'This direction, huh?' Max mused as he set his sniper rifle. 'Let's look around then. Who knows if I hit a jackpot.'

Thinking so, he got into a prone position once again while looking around. At the same time, the communication in the communication device still continued, with Flexy giving out orders.

(I will also return with Atlas, then. And Ferin, can you keep an eye on them? Please don't engage in any fight. But if you find a chance or a wandering player, feel free to trust your judgment.)

(Yeah, yeah. You can trust me.)

(We might not be able to get the first wave's boss this time, but that's fine. Let's meet up and prepare for the next strategy.)

Click.

With a clicking sound, the communication was over with Flexy's order. Max concentrated and looked around the distance through the optical scope. He could control the zoom until 50x of the normal human vision.

At first, he observed the entire area with the most board zoom he could use, a 2x zoom option. Then, he slowly increased it to 3, 5, and then 10. The small pebble in the distance was now clear, and he could even see some cockroaches, the regular size, running around cluelessly.

That wasn't his target, so he ignored it and scoured other parts. Everyone's report said the boss was probably on the North side. It could be hidden behind craters or big boulders that formed over the years.

And just when he slowly moved his scope from left to right, he saw a bright flash.

'What is that?' He wondered.

He zoomed in slowly, recentering his scope many times at the location where he saw the flash. Just as he did that, the flash occurred once again.

Due to his zoom, even when it was obscured by boulders, he managed to catch what that flash was.

'It's a rifle's small explosion. There must be something in that place.'

A grin appeared on his face as he activated the communication device once again.

"Guys, don't return to the base. Just go straight in the North direction, just a little behind a large crater and a boulder resembling a B letter. The boss is probably in that direction. A team has engaged in a battle. There are probably second and third teams too. Be careful.

I am keeping my eyes."

(Got it.) Atlas' voice rang from the device.

(Should I come too?) Ferin asked.

The answer immediately came from Flexy.

("No need to, please keep eyes on their base still. Breeze, do cover me! I will run at full speed and save my ammo for the boss.")

Max somehow heard two voices, one coming from the device and one directly entering his ear. He raised his head and saw a person in an orange suit zoom past the base while holding a rifle.

Two people against a boss and possibly a full team of 4 people at minimum. It would be hard.

'Well, let's give them a cover shoot now. When they arrive, I guess I will start by breaking that boulder.'

"Got it, leader." He answered his friend and rested his finger on the trigger, ready to shoot anytime.

Biochemical solutions were thrown, and a small burst of energy exploded once the bullet hit the target.

Four people surrounded a large cockroach and seemed to try to take it down. They were struggling immensely when the large boulder-like creature roused from its sleep.

However, they had played this game for a while already. They knew that the monster would soon be exhausted and die.

"Just a bit more!" One of the people in dark space suits shouted to the others. "Keep firing!"

The team members were overjoyed. Killing the first boss would shoot them straight to the top rank among the teams in this match.

At that moment, a sphere suddenly was thrown. It rolled on their ground without their knowledge. When it stopped, it immediately burst and let out a blue gas, obscuring their visions.

"W-What is this?!"

"I can't see!"

The players were panicking.

"The boss! Kill the boss!"

Trying to control the situation, the first player kept shooting. The smoke created by the biochemical solution would be gone soon.

"Just kill it first, and then we can find the player that throws–"

"Aaah!"

Just before the first player could finish his sentence, a scream rang. He stopped shooting and looked in the direction where the scream was. Following that, another small explosion burst.

Puff!

The smoke became thicker once again. It didn't affect human players, but it did its job to blind them temporarily.

"Aaaah– Help!"

Pew!

"S-Stop it!"

Pew!

Two similar screams rang. The player in the dark suit knew whom they belonged to. Their voices were similar to his teammates. From the sound that followed their scream, he understood that they were killed by another player instead of the wave boss.

Raising his gun, he looked around in fear. There was no telling when his fate would follow him next. Once the blue gas disappeared… Just thinking about it made him scared.

"Come out, coward! Show yourself!"

So, he covered his fear with a brave front. The truth was, he just wanted to survive and kill the wave boss, so they didn't finish in last place.

Still…

"Peek-a-boo!"

His enemy seemed to play around with him and actually showed up in front of his face. Not exactly in the front because what he saw was the tip of a muzzle right in front of his visor instead of a face.

"Bang!"

With that sound coming out from his enemy's mouth, he saw a bright flash. That was the last thing he saw before a notification popped out.

[Team BraveFront has been annihilated.]

[Good Game, Well Played!]

[10/10.]

It was the end for them.
