Chapter 89: Chapter 89 – Show Time [2]
No one said anything about what he had just drunk. They only thought that he had just drunk a D-grade nutritional supplement because it had a similar color.
"Hehe, how extravagant."
Even Flexy didn't suspect anything and only smirked at him.
Max grinned back at him and climbed into his capsule.
"I made sure to use all your money wisely."
Both of them laughed and entered the game. Their characters appeared in the clearing, with Max having two axes on his back and Flexy with his shield and sword.
Because every character in the program turned basic, not even Flexy's golden armor remained, making him look down.
"My golden armor..." He muttered as he rubbed his chest area.
"Concentrate, Flexy," Max called out as he looked at the camera.
He could see a small screen showing the production crew above it. It was how they communicated with each other.
'What the players inside see and what's shown on the screen is different.' He thought.
"Yeah, you're right." Flexy nodded at him and recovered, "So, are we going with that strategy right off the bat?"
"Yes."
The strategy Flexy mentioned was what they tried after their training yesterday. Even when they only tried it once or twice, they managed to finish with a rather satisfactory time.
"Let's hope the RNG is on our side this time," Max added as he prepared himself, holding the two axes in his hands. "I am ready anytime.
"True." Flexy nodded and prepared to rush. He looked at the camera and gave them a sign, "Let's start!"
[Fort Siege Start!]
[3...2...1...]
[GO!]
As soon as the 'GO' sign appeared, the pair moved. Max ran faster than Flexy and took the front. Many barbarians in the distance noticed him and rushed while yelling.
"Oooh!"
"Enemies! Kill them!"
"INTRUDERS!!"
Observing his enemies, Max was able to count their numbers and the weapons they had in just a moment. A frown formed on his face when he saw 10 archers among the enemies.
"Flexy! We're not that lucky. We have too many archers!"
Hearing Max's shout, Flexy also frowned.
"Really?! Damn! Will we be fine?"
"Let's try it first! I am counting on you for that strategy."
"Oh! Leave your back to me!"
With that, Max threw his axe toward the nearest barbarian and began to fight. No, he began the massacre.
On the stage, Evelyn was baffled by the pair's choice. Not only her, but the other streamers were too.
"What the heck is he doing?!" MadLad raised his voice loudly as he stared at the screen. "Why did both of them fight the barbarian army simultaneously?"
Indeed. The usual strategy was for one of them to fight the army and kill Gargantua while the other took over the flag.
That was Max's initial strategy, which he somehow leaked when he tried the Fort Siege with Flexy for the first time ever. Added with the wall run technique, and further proved by LilyPixel, that strategy was the fastest.
So there was only one possibility why they didn't use that strategy. It was that they gave up on winning.
"Flexy and Breeze pair have somehow made an unexpected move. Are they giving up in this run?" Evelyn commented with confusion. Not even she guessed that this happened.
'It's disappointing.' She sighed internally and looked at the production crew, specifically Mr. Taka. He was watching the screen with a frown. 'Mr. Taka will be unhappy with this result.'
-- Huh?
-- kekeke, they are giving up?
-- Taking second place is useless! Maybe they think like that and just wing it to have publicity
-- But wait... Something is strange! They are smiling. And Breeze is killing them at a fast speed!
-- Godlike Breeze! He massacred those archers easily!
-- Yeah... And why does Flexy do that?!
-- Indeed. Why is he gathering the dropped weapons?!
As Max ran around to kill the archers near the entrance at a fast speed, Flexy dealt with the ones with close-range fighters and gathered the dropped weapons after putting his shield on his back. He had a high strength and could hold them without any problem with his free hand.
The ones he gathered were mainly swords and axes. Spears with small and fragile handles were left out in the open, and he didn't even touch them.
'Good, there are around 20 weapons here! They should be enough.' He thought and raised his head.
"Breeze! We got enough!"
"Great! Let's go!"
Max swung his axe at the last archer when he heard Flexy's voice. His axe landed on the enemy's shoulder and butchered him down to his heart.
Turning around, he looked at Flexy, who ran past the remaining barbarians to get to him. There was one trying to throw his axe at his friend, so Max quickly took a crude axe from the ground and threw it. It spun mid-air and stuck the barbarian right on its head. The axe split his skull and killed him in one go.
"Oh shit!" Flexy cursed as he realized that he was saved, "Thank!"
"No need to mention it." He smiled at him and turned around, "Let's kill Gargantua. We spent a minute more than the usual strategy already. 5 minutes have passed since the start, and we can't waste any more time."
Max began to run inside the fort after saying that. His speed left Flexy perplexed as he tried to catch up.
"Hey, slow down! I can't run fast while holding them!"
"Don't worry! As long as you arrive a few seconds after me, we can kill Gargantua before 20 minutes!"
"Fine! Ugh... you're a slave driver!"
The viewers who heard their conversation became more and more confused.
-- Strategy?
-- Could it be... They have something?
-- A plan that's even faster than the world record?
Noticing that Evelyn took this chance to boost the excitement further.
"It seems Breeze has a plan in mind. But what's the use of those weapons? Are they for throwing?" She asked excitedly and turned to StoneSword, the most knowledgeable player on the stage. "What do you think of his plan, StoneSword? Do you have any idea?"
StoneSword stared at the screen for a second. On it, Max and Flexy ran through the corridor before arriving at Gargantua's dining room.
Then, he turned to Evelyn and spoke, surprising everyone.
"I don't know."
