They were also angry that he would think that was possible at all. Then they reread the data clip to prove him wrong.

When they remembered again, Legion-7 managed to update the note.

He wrote, "Legion-7 wrote this. We forgot something. Read the data clip again."

They sighed in relief after he did so. Their world view was crumbling around them. It was as if they were in an uncertain world where they couldn't tell what was real and what was their imagination. This note was an anchor to keep them grounded in their nightmare.

Legion-1 said, "At least we will be able to find it quickly."

Legion-2 was still worried, "But this is not going to solve the problem. What prerequisite knowledge do we need? Is it a supreme law?"

Legion-3 nodded and said, "We do need a Supreme Law."

Legion-8 consoled everyone, "We should get a Supreme Law soon. With the knowledge the realm lord has granted us, we will be able to build one soon."

Legion-4 snickered and said, "He was exaggerating when he thought we wouldn't be able to understand it, though."

Legion-6 agreed with him. "I can't believe he thinks so little of us."

Legion-9 admitted, despite the immense pride he was feeling, "But his information was enlightening, though. We have to give him credit for that."

And so the cycle began anew. They patted themselves on the back while Legion-7 was feeling uneasy.

Fortunately they had the note. They were able to figure out what was wrong very quickly. But they didn't want to believe it. They argued angrily until they decided to prove once and for all that it was a hoax. So they read the data clip again.

This time they screamed and jumped in shock and fear. The clones began wailing.

"What is real? Who are we? What are we doing? What use is struggling for perfection?"

"Nothing can be trusted. We are living in a dream."

Legion-2 was crying as the inner world in his eyes began to crack. Legion-1 had begun harming himself. Legion-3 was smashing his head against anything he could.

The other clones were spiraling in an abyss of despair and mental instability. Legion-7 had to update the note.

He destroyed the old one and wrote a new one. He wrote, "Legion-7 wrote this. We forgot something. That's why you are feeling uneasy. But it is alright."

It didn't work. They couldn't believe or accept that they had forgotten something. This led them on a quest to disprove it. So they ended back at the same point.

By the 8th cycle, he had to change the note. He wrote, "Legion-7 wrote this. We forgot something. That's why you are feeling uneasy. But it is alright. Everything is truly alright."

In the 9th cycle, he wrote, "Legion-7 wrote this. We forgot something. That's why you are feeling uneasy. But it is alright. Everything is truly alright. Forget about it."

But they didn't forget it. They couldn't. He would feel uneasy, and they would investigate. They would find the note and read the data clip again. Their consciousness will be injured by the revelation again, and then it will fracture when a large chunk of their memories suddenly disappears.

By the 11th cycle, every clone was screaming incomprehensibly. They were raving and ranting. They were cutting themselves to see if they were real or not. Some of them had become catatonic. Nothing was real to them anymore, so they lost the motivations for living.

The information was actually turning their consciousness into a sieve. Parts of their minds were full of holes. It was fraying and unraveling. Their concept kept their physical bodies largely intact, and they were supposed to be immortal, but they were dying slowly and surely. Eventually they would become mindless husks empty of their memories and personalities.

It is so bad that the realm lord's warning seems to be an understatement now. This is more than being an unpleasant experience.

Maybe it would just be unpleasant if they were normal people. But they had Legion-7, who wasn't willing to let things go after noticing the gap in their memories.

Legion-7 was mostly fine as he could cut away the faulty part of his consciousness before it could damage him, but the consciousness of the other clones was protected by concepts. It was difficult for him to excise the faulty memory carefully and fast enough.

There is also the fact that he also forgets what the faulty memory is after a while. So he couldn't cut it out even if he wanted to.

But things were getting worse by the moment. In fact, Legion-5 had already killed himself. So Legion-7 felt that he had to take drastic actions before things went too far.

He destroyed the data clip, wiped away all their memories of it, and made a sealed backup of it. This sealed memory was marked with detailed information.

It read, "You encountered dangerous information in this clip. It doesn't seem to be malicious, but it caused cognitive collapse. You wiped it out of your mind. This is it right here. You can have it anytime you want as long as you have a Supreme Law."

This move saved them from the endless cognitive loops threatening to damage their minds. The clones forgot that they even received the data clip.

They don't know that they read it and that there was a warning in it. They couldn't complain about how they were underestimated or brag about understanding it.

This helped them to finally relax. They were first confused about their situation, but they were able to move on with their lives as if nothing happened.

Only Legion-7 remembered the data clip and also felt that something was out of place after he forgot something about it. But he relaxed after seeing the backup.

It was one of the many backups he has made. There were a lot of them about the first sage and the other supreme laws that they had comprehended.

He had cut them away from their minds and stored them for the future. This new addition is just one of the many things that they are not strong enough to know.
