227 Suspect
After being abruptly cut off, President Lian silently put away his cell phone and sat down at his desk again. He called his secretary’s office and summoned Zhong Xin.
“President Lian.” Zhong Xin could sense Lian Jing’s ominous aura the moment he entered. He took a step back and distanced himself before lowering his eyes and greeting him respectfully.
Lian Jing glanced at him coldly. Suddenly, he rapped on the table with his slender fingers and instructed, “Investigate the recent cases at the Leaping Dragon Bar in Chengxi.”
“Yes.” Zhong Xin nodded and left the President’s office.
Actually, Zhong Xin had heard about the recent cases in Chengxi, but he had not investigated them in detail.
Recently, the police had been very shrewd. They had been keeping a tight lid on major murder cases. Unless he deliberately probed, it was difficult to know the full picture.
However, as Lian Jing’s chief secretary, this was no problem for him. In less than half an hour, Zhong Xin had obtained the details of the case.
When he saw the name of the person involved, Zhong Xin finally understood why the President had suddenly asked him to investigate this case. After arranging the case file, he knocked on the President’s office door fearfully.
“Come in.” Lian Jing put down the document and looked over calmly.
Zhong Xin hurriedly handed over what he had found. Then, he retreated to the side and tried to breathe softly. He silently stood there, trying to blend in with the background.
Lian Jing looked at the file carefully and sneered. He threw the document on the table and stared at one of the names with a faint smile. “Find the manager of the Leaping Dragon Bar and get the surveillance footage of the bar on the night before the crime. I want to know what happened.”
“President Lian.” Zhong Xin carefully reminded him, “The police should have already obtained the surveillance footage. I just checked the progress of their investigation and did not find any abnormalities in the surveillance cameras.”
Lian Jing smiled evilly and said disdainfully, “Of course they won’t hand the real footage to the police. The Leaping Dragon Bar is involved in illegal business. Find it and hand it to the technical department. I want the results of the investigation before tomorrow.”
“Yes!” Zhong Xin did not dare to waste any more time and hurriedly went out to deal with it.
Inside the police station, Shen Yin had finished the autopsy report and had gone to Team Three to make her report.
The semen extracted from the victim’s body perfectly matched the samples from the two earlier cases. It was definitely the same murderer.
Zou Sheng and Meng Heng went to the Leaping Dragon Bar again and found the Manager to ask about their in-house brand of beer.
This discovery represented substantial progress in their investigation. At the very least, it proved that the murderer had been to the Leaping Dragon Bar before the crime was committed.
“What do you think?” Wu Zheng looked at Shen Yin’s thoughtful expression and asked tentatively.
Shen Yin looked up at him in confusion and said slowly, “I still think that Zhao Lu and Shen Luo look too similar. Captain Wu, do you think there’s a possibility that the murderer has problems with facial recognition, like me?”
Wu Zheng could not help but say in surprise, “You mean that the murderer’s target this time is actually Shen Luo?”
Could it be that Shen Luo had unintentionally avoided the murderer’s attack when she was causing a scene at the police station?
“No.” Shen Yin shook her head slowly. An answer was forming in her mind, but there was always a hazy barrier that prevented her from seeing it clearly. “If my guess is right, then the murderer is very likely to know Shen Luo. He even saw Shen Luo once before this case.”
If that was the case, that would greatly narrow down the number of suspects. However, all of this was just inference. There was no evidence to support such a guess.
However, Wu Zheng remembered this suspicion. He got up and put on his coat. “Dr. Shen, please follow me to meet the online friend whom Zhao Lu went to meet yesterday.”
“You’ve found him?” Shen Yin immediately stood up and followed him. They walked out of the police station together and got into the off-road vehicle parked in the courtyard.
Wu Zheng sat in the driver’s seat and said as he drove, “I’ve asked the technical department to get Zhao Lu’s phone records and text messages. We’ve already located his home address. Let’s meet him first. This is the man who last saw the deceased.”
Shen Yin fastened her seatbelt and nodded slightly. “Alright, even if he has nothing to do with Zhao Lu’s death, he should be able to provide some clues. Besides him, I already have another suspect.”
“I know who you suspect.” Wu Zheng could keep up with Shen Yin’s leaps of logic. He said slowly, “Let’s wait for news from Zou Sheng and Meng Heng first. Don’t alert them for the time being.”
Since Wu Zheng said so, it was clear that he had the same thoughts as Shen Yin.
If it was really that person, then Shen Luo was in danger. They had to speed up their progress to prevent another tragedy from happening.
Shen Yin agreed with Wu Zheng’s decision. After thinking about it carefully, she took out her phone and sent a message to Shen Luo, reminding her to be careful and to contact her immediately if anything unusual happened.
