Married to the Boss: A Love in Disguise Chapter 189

Jacob said, “Madam, I’ve considered this. Rather than say Mr. Hills was enchanted, it’s better to say Mr. Hills feels responsible for that woman. You know Mr. Hills’ temper best. For anything, either he avoids it or gives his all. Marriage is probably the same for him. Since he agreed to marry at his grandmother’s behest, he must feel responsible for his wife.”

“Is that really so?” For the son she carried for ten months and birthed, Diandra didn’t dare claim to

understand him well.

During the Hills Group crisis, when everyone thought that Hills Group’s power would be in a different hand, a young Adam stepped forward with thunderous force and regained control of Hills

Group.

No one expected that, including her as his mother.

Jacob nodded. “I believe so.”

Diandra sneered contemptuously. “The Hills family has all genes in their blood-ambition, aspiration but lacks responsibility for wives. Just like his father, who never considered being responsible for me, his legally wedded wife.”

Jacob said, “If the master wasn’t responsible for you but doted on that woman for decades, wasn’t that another kind of responsibility?”

Diandra’s face chilled. “You’re defending him too?”

Jacob hurried to explain, “Madam, I don’t mean to defend that man. I just don’t want you distressed over this. The master’s mind was never on you, nor was yours on him. Over the years, you’ve lived your own lives and avoided trouble.”

Although this was common knowledge, Jacob’s blunt statement still embarrassed Diandra.

“Must I admit defeat like this?” Diandra knew she couldn’t gain her husband’s heart or control Adam’s fate. She just refused to admit defeat.

Jacob said, “Madam, I have something to say but don’t know if I should.”

Diandra gazed at the snowy white outside. “Say it if you wish.”

Jacob said, “Mr. Hills is a part that came from your body. His blood flows with yours. No matter who

he marries or how well he treats that woman, it can’t change that he is your son. Why torture

yourself so?”

“Oh, am I torturing myself?” No, she wasn’t torturing herself. She just couldn’t stand the Hills family improving while everyone lived more freely than her as the Hinkle famlly declined daily.

She refused to resign herself to fate, but the facts forced her hand. “Forget it. Since I’m no match

for Adam, I’ll resign myself to fate. But that Lumma woman will never have my approval.”

Jacob didn’t respond, but he understood Adam married without even telling Diandra. Adam likely didn’t care if she accepted his wife at all.

Outside, the snow fell harder. The warm heater seemed unable to drive away the coldness in Diandra’s heart.

The hospital in Red Pine City.

As dawn neared, Adam still stayed at Lumma’s bedside without leaving. Laura worried. After much thought, she entered the ward. “Adam, why not rest now? I’ll watch Lumma.”

Adam didn’t respond. His eyes seemed to see only Lumma. No sound could reach his ears, and no one could enter his eyes.

Laura called twice without answer. She didn’t dare drag Adam out. Finally, she obediently left the ward herself.

Steve guarded outside. Seeing Laura emerge downcast, he asked, “Mom, is Ms. Louis all right?”

Laura said, “Lumma will recover once she wakes. I worry about Adam.”

Steve was puzzled. “What could happen to Mr. Hills?”
