Chapter 68: Force Her to Remember
Chapter 68: Force Her to Remember
"Hey hey, you have to share! Don’t be stingy and hog all of the food. I brought you a lot of boxes, the least you can do is share a piece with me!" Yang Ruqin huffed when Zhao Lifei held the box away from her, hugging it to her body like it was a precious baby.
"Oh please, we all know one piece will become two, and then the entire box will be gone! You’re a supermodel, think of your figure!" Zhao Lifei teased just when Yang Ruqin attempted to pounce at her for the delectable pastry. Upon seeing the pout from her Qinqin, she laughed and placed the box in front of her.
She shook her head when Ruqin proved her right by taking two more pieces out of the box, eating it two at a time and nearly choking because it was so sticky in her throat. She opened her mouth to speak but immediately closed it when she saw her older brother giving her a warning glare.
Yang Ruqin rolled her eyes at him. He was always worried about her public image due to her job, but even so, he always did as he pleased without caring about his public image! She complained in her head about how much of a hypocrite he was. Just because he was born four years ahead of her, he always scolded her like he was the parent instead of the brother!
After swallowing the food, she finally spoke up. "I’m a natural in losing weight, just a few more pieces wouldn’t hurt!" Yang Ruqin protested, reaching over and seizing a few more, stuffing it into her mouth before Feifei could hunt her down.
"Alright, alright. But if your manager comes to me for your weight gain, I’m blaming it on you." Zhao Lifei stuck out her tongue, knowing very well that Yang Ruqin’s manager was very strict over her diet because Qinqin always ate more food than her stomach could hold.
She grabbed a rice cake and bit into it, marveling at the way it melted in her mouth. The rice cake was slightly sweet, but the red bean in the middle gave it the perfect amount of sweetness. It was slightly creamy and sticky, which made her think back to a childhood memory of an unknown boy handing her a rice cake.
Yang Feng couldn’t help but be amused by the banter before him. Who knew these two incredibly wealthy women with their skinny figures would become so stingy when it comes to food and snacks?
Was this what their friendship was built upon? Being petty and childish gluttons?
After finishing an entire box of sweets and a hearty breakfast, Yang Ruqin had to leave for another photo shoot again. But before her departure, she set up a date when she could sleep over at her Feifei’s home in order to catch up on the things she missed while being out of the city.
Now that she had made the decision to support their relationship, she had turned giddy at the thought of finding out how her best friend had managed to get her Demon King of a brother into her bed.
When Zhao Lifei bid Ruqin goodbye, she knew it was time to face the elephant in the room. She could practically feel Yang Feng’s curious stare creating a hole in her soul. He had been studying her so intently from the moment she woke up that she wondered if he could read her mind at this point.
Closing the door, she was reluctant to turn around and face the intimidating man sitting on her couch. Even now as she stood facing her door, she knew he was still looking at her.
Yang Feng was the first to speak up. "Don’t try to delay this conversation." His voice wasn’t the one she had gotten accustomed to. It wasn’t overly warm or welcoming, instead, it sounded remote and indifferent. It was ice cold as if he was doing a business transaction or dealing with his subordinates.
For some reason, she disliked the way he spoke to her. But why did this voice sound so familiar? Why did she feel like she’s experiencing a sense of déjà vu [1] and that once upon a time, he used to speak to her in such a detached and unsympathetic voice?
She remembered their conversation in the hospital. His voice there was filled with annoyance, but it had been tinged with worry and care. Even at the banquet, when she brought up Yang Yulong, there wasn’t this sense of aloofness in his tone.
Blinking slowly, she felt a tug at her heart. She never realized it until now, but something about him brought back a sense of familiarity. It was as if her mind wanted to reminisce but the memory she wanted to pull out was kept out of her grasp. But what was it? What was her brain trying to force her to remember?
When she tried to think about what it was, her heart began to pound in pain as it always would. It felt as if her own memories were locked away from her, by something or someone...And she couldn’t figure out why it was hidden away from her.
