Nicolas was taken aback and quickly shifted the blame to Liam. “I swear, Sydney’s fame is not my doing, but Liam’s. He helped her get resources under our company’s name. Did you see me getting involved in her online shenanigans? I don’t want to get mixed up in this mess.”
Trisha gritted her teeth, “I knew there was something between Liam and Sydney! Otherwise, why would he recommend her? Celeste did right to divorce him. How can a man who can’t discern talent deserve a wife?”
Nicolas agreed, “He’s just too spoiled to know what’s valuable”
Trisha glared at him, “You’re not any better. You knew Liam was keeping a mistress and you didn’t stop him. You helped him cover it up. You’re even worse than a cheater!”
To clear his name, Nicolas had to defend his friend, “Liam only needed Sydney’s help, that’s why he recommended her. There’s nothing between them. If he was really cheating on his wife, I’d be the first to object.”
Trisha snorted. “Lend me your laptop.”
“What for?”
Trisha said, “I’m going to review that audio again. I won’t let them slander Celeste this way”
Nicolas opened his laptop, pushed it towards her, and after a moment, couldn’t help but say, “You’re really good to Celeste. Up and about for her first thing in the morning.”
“That’s because Celeste has been good to me. She helped me a lot when I was in college.”

It was too embarrassing to talk about, so she made up an excuse, “My family’s not well–off. It’s already great that they could afford to send me to college. I naturally had to be careful with my living expenses.”
Nicolas paused, “Your family’s not well–off?”
He seemed to have never heard Trisha talk about her family’s situation.
“If my family was well–off, would I be shopping online for discounted clothes every day?” Trisha said, “Luckily, I have a job now. Although I havent achieved much, at least I’m self–sufficient. And I’m about to switch jobs. Maybe I’ll be able to write a bestseller, become a popular writer, and then return home successful.” So that her mother would finally see her in a new light.
Nicolas looked at her optimistic demeanor, couldn’t help but crack a smile, leaned in and joked, “Now you can successfully return to your hometown, even though you haven’t accomplished much yet. But hey, you’ve snagged a boyfriend with some serious chops, you know how much dough I’ve got under my name?”
