My Rich Hot and Infertile or Maybe Not Husband

Chapter 452

Nicolas hurriedly stopped the people who were about to nail the coffin shut, “Wait, someone’s coming!”

They all stopped.

Celeste looked up.

Liam, looking nervous and dressed in a suit, quickly walked into the funeral hall.

Their eyes met, and there was neither sadness nor joy in Celeste’s gaze, as if she were looking at a stranger.

Liam suddenly felt a pang of panic.

Sienna noticed his daze and reminded him, “Liam, give your mother–in–law a proper send–off.”

Skyler handed Liam a white flower and whispered, “Bow deeply.”

Liam took the flower, walked to the coffin, bowed deeply, and placed the flower inside.

Sienna glanced at it, frowned a bit, but ultimately said nothing.

Liam finished paying his respects and looked up, wanting to say something to Celeste, but she turned away, telling the staff, “It’s fine now.”

Liam didn’t dare speak up.

In the spacious funeral hall, only the sound of nails being hammered into the wood could be heard. With the last nail in place, Caitlyn said her final goodbye to the world.

Nicolas had reserved a nearby restaurant for lunch.

They could have booked a better place, but the funeral was arranged so hastily that many things couldn’t be done properly, so they had to do their best in a short amount of time.

Most of the mourners had already left, and Sienna couldn’t stand it any longer. After exchanging a few words with Celeste, she returned to her car, giving Liam a meaningful look before leaving.

Liam approached Celeste, swallowing hard before saying with difficulty, “My flight was delayed.”

Celeste didn’t respond, instead turning to Trisha and asking, “Trisha, do you want to go to the bathroom?”

Trisha was about to say no but changed her mind when she saw the expressions on their faces, “Sure.”

Nicolas frowned, “What do you mean ‘sure‘? Didn’t you just go?”

Trisha twitched the corner of her mouth and glared at him before pulling Celeste away.

Nicolas couldn’t help but look at Liam’s expression, wanting to comfort him but also ridiculing him.

“You’re usually pretty sharp–tongued, what was that just now? What do you mean your flight was delayed?

This is your mother–in–law’s funeral, you had to come back no matter what! You should let your wife know that you’re just as worried and anxious, not say things like that to brush her off!”

“She just lost her mom, and she’s vulnerable right now. Even if you don’t comfort her with a hug, at least let her know your stance, right?”

Liam froze.

The Reed family hadn’t held a funeral in over twenty years, so he wasn’t familiar with all the procedures, nor did he know what to do as a son–in–law in such a situation.

Liam frowned and asked after a while, “What happened these past few days?”

“A few days ago, a bunch of people barged into your mother–in–law’s hospital room, pulled out her oxygen tube to try and collect debts, and then your wife called me.

Mason and I went over right away. Luckily, we were there, or else they would have laid their hands on her. If it wasn’t for the hospital, I would’ve beaten them up.”
