Chapter 2083 – The Divine Temple of Nothing

Lu Yun felt very secure in his capabilities after entering the boundless nothing, especially when he realized that he could claim the Fire God’s life at any time.

The Fire God was equally rueful. She never imagined that her target could turn around and suppress her instead!

It had nothing to do with strength. On the contrary, Lu Yun had sent a hint of an incredibly terrifying thing into her body when he was swallowed by the Forge of Heaven and Earth. While the young man possessed the ability to kill the Fire God, he actually boasted of the capacity to spontaneously eradicate her.

The Dragonspike Litany.

He’d sent a tiny bit of the litany into her body, and this was why she’d come out to meet him. As he was able to fully deploy the litany’s full power, he could destroy the Divine Temple of Nothing at any time.

However, the power wasn’t under his control. If he destroyed the temple, he would also destroy everything else in the nothing. It was an act of mutual destruction that he would not activate unless he had no other choice.

Nonetheless, it remained an enormous threat to the divine temple. In their eyes, everything within the nothing was but ants. Their lives and deaths were meaningless, but if an ant possessed the ability to end the world, then it horrified them all the same.

Thankfully, no one in the divine temple knew of the Dragonspike Litany, apart from the Fire God.

The litany was a tiny contingency plan that Mo Yi and the Dao King had left behind. In fact, Lu Yun had calculated hints that the Dragonquake Scripture could be used for more than destruction. The Dragonspike Litany was used for the obliteration of all, but the Dragonsearch Invocation and Dragonshift Method were closer to creation.

“Ai,” the Fire God sighed helplessly as she looked at the young man. “You can choose us too, you know. Our goal is also to survive within the nothing.”

“It’s different,” Lu Yun shook his head. “You guys only want to survive.”

“Hmm?” The Fire God blinked.

“You destroy the existences born of the nothing time and time again for the sake of your survival. You treat the symptoms, not the cause. There will one day come an existence that you cannot erase. At that time, death will be your only option.” Lu Yun looked at the other with a trace of derision.

“Heh,” the Fire God snorted, contempt on her face. “And that makes the path of the mistress and Che—two foreigners—viable? They lead you in abandoning your homes again and again, permitting your homes to be destroyed and reborn in endless fashion. Are you truly able to go to another world with peace of mind?

“While the nothing will eventually destroy us, it is our home.” She cast a sidelong glance at Lu Yun. “The Divine Temple of Nothing seeks to protect our homeland.”

“Protect your homeland?” Lu Yun curled his lip. “How? By destroying it over and over again like what you do now? By killing your own family with your bare hands?”

The Fire God fell silent.

“I don’t know how many bouts of destruction the nothing has endured, but this time, everything follows according to our plan. Destruction is not upon us,” she finally offered solemnly after struggling for a response.

“Then how did the first patch of existence become the Tome of Life and Death?” Lu Yun sniffed. “Meanwhile, the second patch of existence is a hellish state of nonliving. Dare you say that you guys aren’t behind this?”

The Fire God had nothing to say.

“Although my cultivation level is less than yours, you should understand that someone of my level will hold steadfast to my goals once I have set them. Unless I was on your side to begin with, my perspective will never change.” There was no right or wrong, superior or inferior to Lu Yun. It was simply a matter of perspective. Different perspectives meant different considerations and outlooks of thought.

“…you are correct,” the Fire God sighed.

“Let’s go to the divine temple. We’ve wasted enough time here,” Lu Yun said.

……

The Divine Temple of Nothing.

Lu Yun was unable to see the divine temple. He wouldn’t find it even if he explored every corner of the unknown. The Dao King, mistress, and God wouldn’t be able to either, to say nothing of the young man.

There was no concept of space or time in the nothing. Any locale could be a dot, or an enormous boundless hole. Everything depended on one’s angle of comprehension.

One could say that there was distance in the nothing. It could be very long, it could be very short. One inch could be crossed in a single footstep, or it might be unreachable for endless eons.

This was the nothing.

While it lacked the concepts of space and time, its denizens possessed them. Just as there was originally no great dao or heaven and earth among existence, all of it came into being once life and subjectivity dwelled among it.

Therefore, the Divine Temple of Nothing could both be in front of Lu Yun and be somewhere that he would never reach in his life.

He could even be in the temple right now.

Lu Yun didn’t know what’d happened. They whoosh’ed somewhere and arrived in front of a palace. It was neither ostentatious nor brimming with magnificent multi-floors and pavilions. It was a palace simply because Lu Yun thought it should be a palace.

It would be a thatched hut if he thought it should be a thatched hut.

Thus was subjectivity.

It was a palace constructed from subjective will and given the name of the Divine Temple of Nothing from countless life forms. And so it was the Divine Temple of Nothing.

It was very apropos of the definition of “nothing”.

“A temple of subjectivity…” Lu Yun stood in front of the divine temple, frowning with deep thought. “So the divine temple isn’t within the nothing, but within the thoughts of the people. If everything within the nothing died, then this temple would naturally cease to exist.”

“You finally understand,” the Fire God smiled.

Lu Yun nodded. This was why the Divine Temple of Nothing was the only one to remain out of the four after the rebellion, and why it’d become the home of the traitors.

Its origins were the reason why.

The traitors wouldn't kill everything in the nothing. Even the three hundred and sixty-five demon gods transforming into existence and manifesting life was for this purpose.

And now, Lu Yun also understood why the altars existed in the Three Thousand and who they sacrificed to.

The Divine Temple of Nothing.

Their powerhouses called themselves gods, making it simple to eliminate the temple. Have life forget about the temple. Without the subjective thoughts of creation, the Divine Temple of Nothing would collapse and cease to exist.
