Chapter 789 Questions
(Leo's POV)
After retrieving his meditation manual from Captain Kid and leveraging the situation to secure additional benefits, Leo returned to his quarters feeling a mixture of pride and frustration.
While he had gained new information and turned the Captain of the ship into his personal servant— which was a notable achievement—there was unfortunately a bitter edge attached to his victory.
As the realization that he had to halt his meditation progress indefinitely weighed heavily on his mind.
"Do I really have to pause my meditation progress until I can undergo a genetic awakening procedure?" Leo muttered, the frown on his face deepening.
Apparently, Captain Kid hadn't been lying when he warned about the risks of continuing to meditate. Pushing forward recklessly could compromise his chances at a full genetic awakening. Yet, the idea of spending an entire year in limbo felt intolerable.
With exactly one year and three days left until the Arc Ship landed on Planet Terra Nova, the prospect of idling away his time gnawed at him.
"Agh, this sucks…. It's like an entire year of my life is about to be wasted!" he groaned, gripping his hair in frustration.
Captain Kid had suggested another route—seeking out some of the game's most elusive treasures, items that could grant him powerful skills to later master in real life, and while the offer was undoubtedly intriguing, the idea didn't sit well with Leo.
Training in real life was far more complicated and unforgiving than within the game. There were no convenient MP or stamina potions to restore his energy and no magical shortcuts to accelerate his recovery, which made training for long hours significantly more challenging.
His peak training time in real life was currently limited to 40-80 minutes a day, and though he felt he could push that to two hours with dedication, there was no way to go beyond that at his current 'Master' stage.
Still, with no viable alternatives, Leo begrudgingly accepted the situation and decided to halt his meditation in the short term, as while frustrating for now, it was undoubtedly the smarter choice in the long run.
"Fuck me…. This last year is probably going to be the hardest one I've ever spent…." he muttered, resigning himself to a future of aimless days and minimal progress.

(That same night, Captain Kid's Quarters)
Later that night, Leo arrived at Captain Kid's quarters for their scheduled information session, and the moment he stepped in, Kid stood to greet him, ready with an update.
"Here's what I've accomplished today," Kid began, his tone professional yet tinged with nerves. "I've subtly tilted the odds in Luke's favor for the upcoming rankers event. It's just enough to give him an advantage without drawing suspicion."
He paused briefly, gauging Leo's reaction before continuing. "Additionally, I've compiled a detailed list of the game's most significant quests and rare reward items. I focused on those that would be particularly useful for you as an assassin."
Kid handed over a neatly organized tablet, the information laid out with precision. It was clean, thorough work, and Leo couldn't help but feel a grudging respect for the Captain's efficiency.
"Very good…. You did everything I asked of you. I'm impressed," Leo said, nodding approvingly.
Kid bowed slightly, the relief evident in his eyes. "Thank you, sir."
Satisfied with the report, Leo leaned back in his chair and folded his arms. "Now, about the information session. The first topic I want to discuss is this: what exactly is the Universal Government? And why did you claim that a single clan like the Mu Clan holds comparable status to it on the universal stage?"
Leo cut straight to the chase with his question, as Kid coughed and began contemplating about how to explain such a complicated concept to a complete newbie.
"It's like this…." Kid began, waving his hands as he gestured to make an invisible pyramid, and then pointed towards the top of the pyramid.
"At the very top of the universal food chain are beings we refer to as 'Gods'.
Gods cannot be killed. Gods cannot be defeated and they alone can conquer/ destroy/ recreate entire planetary systems with their power.
The backing for the universal government are two of the oldest and most powerful gods in the universe, which is why it's one of the most revered organizations, however, it's not the only organization backed by a god.
There are several clans, who we refer to as 'Great' Clans, who have a God amongst their ranks, and each of these clans control several planets/ territories within the universe.
And the Mu Clan is one such clan" Kid explained, as Leo nodded in understanding.
"Because it's a clan backed by a God, the higher ranking officials within the Mu Clan enjoy the same prestige as higher ranking officials of the universal government, with us low-level staff being informed to treat them as our superiors.
However, what differentiates the Universal Government from the other Great Clans is the fact that the Universal Government is the common arbitrator for everyone.
While only bloodline members of a Clan usually rise up to higher positions of that Clan, any member, of any race, belonging to any Clan can join the Universal Government and take up its top office.
Just like back on Earth you had the local governments and then a United Nations goverment, on the universal stage, it's the Universal Government who plays the same role.
The Universal Government is considered to have the strongest army, and has diplomatic ties with all the Great Clans.
It's the peace-keeper in the universe, and it is also the neutral party that resolves all inter-clan disputes.
Basically, it's the most important organization in the universe, as regardless of what Clan you belong to, every sentient being has ties to the universal government, whether it be through education, welfare programs, bank accounts, travel, merchant unions or more.
Every planet in the universe has a Universal Bank branch office.
And every citizen is eligible to apply for an opportunity to study in the universal government schools" Kid explained, as Leo began to gain a full picture of what exactly the universal government was.
From Leo's understanding, the Universal Government wasn't just a governing body; it was the lifeblood of the entire universe's structure.
It acted as a mediator, an enforcer, and a provider, bridging gaps between countless clans, planets, and races.
Its openness to all beings, regardless of origin, set it apart from the exclusivity of the Great Clans, giving it a universal appeal and authority that no single clan could rival.
For Leo, understanding its reach and significance was a crucial piece of knowledge that could shape his decisions as he prepared for the challenges that awaited him on Terra Nova.
