Chapter 1430  Causing a scene

Velma and Gerard looked at the Koala with curiosity, but only Lex was grimacing. An environmental activist. They used one's own guilt, coercing them into donating their own hard earned money, making them feel terrible for even living for all the contribution they were doing to pollution.

Considering the fact that they were working for the environment, Lex should have felt like they were a necessary evil. After all, without a safe environment people also cannot survive. But the thing that Lex found most distasteful about them was that they focus on the wrong things. Even removing all the plastic straws in the world would not improve the environment as long as celebrities took private jets on fifteen minute flights just to avoid traffic.

The contribution of a single celebrity or wealthy person to pollution could rival that of millions of ordinary people, so why were the ordinary people being made to feel guilty?

There was also the fact that they would nag anyone on the streets that they could, becoming extremely annoying for anyone minding their own business and just walking by. But that was purely incidental. Lex's primary issue with them was still on the philosophy of their operations. It was not at all because they used to bug him for money while he was a broke college student.

"I fear you have made a mistake," said Lex promptly. He knew that with Gerards and Velma's amenable personalities, they were prime victims to fall prey to such scams. He had to navigate the situation carefully.

"We are mere guests in this realm, destined to move on soon enough. We do not have the authority to take any significant actions within this realm. I'm afraid we won't be able to help the Polar Forests."

One reason Lex was particularly annoyed was because they were technically still within the bank's compound. Why did the bank have such people within their premises?

"Au contraire, my friends, it is because you can help that I have…"

"You want to use the fact that I'm a female human, often characterised as having a high empathy quotient, to manipulate us into opening new bank accounts," Velma said, looking at the Koala as if she was highly unimpressed. She could hear his secrets, and this Koala had no girlfriend or even a crush. She was not interested in people like this.

The Koala froze, having been caught red handed, but quickly recovered.

"There's absolutely no reason why this is a bad thing," the Koala said, putting on his most charming smile. "If you open up a bank account, as an incentive, the bank will donate to the cause of preserving the forest. Opening the bank account also has no drawbacks, and instead has numerous benefits…"

"Except that our Karma would be permanently intertwined with the banks, which would use this connection to boost its own Karma," Velma said dismissively. "Please leave, we're not interested."

The Koala looked at them awkwardly, and then just left. Lex, on the other hand, looked at Velma highly impressed.

"How did you read his thoughts?" Lex asked as they entered the cafe and took a seat in a corner, far away from others. A sound insulation formation ensured that their conversation was not overheard.

"I didn't read his thoughts," Velma said. "Instead, by strongly connecting with my tenet, I could use it to not just learn about laws, but the material world as well. I think, at a higher level of mastery, one can use tenets not just to control laws, but the actual universe around them."

Lex was stunned, for he'd never heard of this before.

"That can't be," he said. "I even went to the Temple of Fasting and asked them how to train in the immortal realm. Although they told me strengthening my tenet would allow me to gain more control over laws, they never mentioned something like connecting with my tenet."

Velma just shrugged, for she had no explanation for it.

"Hasn't that caused you to trigger another tribulation though?" Lex asked. "Once, when my actions synchronized with my tenet, it caused my tenet to grow stronger and triggered a tribulation to move up a level."

"Yes, actually I do feel like I'm ready to trigger another tribulation, but not until I fully digest the changes from becoming an immortal. It will take at least a decade or even more before I'll reach that point."

Lex didn't say anything, but in his heart he felt like the universe was being sexist because he certainly didn't get any such buffer.

The three continued to chat, and eventually even ordered some snacks. In fact, they were also just wasting time because the bank hadn't given them any information yet. They needed to get their identity cards, as well as find out where they would be living, and their schedule for the next few days.

But considering the fact that they had been recently attacked, it was understandable that they were late doing such things. The three of them, being understanding people, didn't mind this at all. Moreover, though it was easy to say that they were at a cafe, the food and drinks there were beyond sublime, and could be considered a part of them gaining experience.

Like that, a few hours passed by seemingly in the blink of an eye, when suddenly Velma sat up straight.

"Do you want to see something interesting?" Velma asked the group suddenly.

"Sure, what is it?" Lex asked.

"Secret," she responded mischievously, and disabled the isolation formation around them, and yet continued to sit there.

On the floor below them, a Sunset Tiger had just walked into the cafe when she suddenly froze, and sniffed the air, before looking up. It was as if she could directly see through the floor!

"Why do I smell Bagheera's scent?" she asked herself, but made no moves to investigate. This was the property of the Versalis Bank. She wasn't suicidal, so naturally she wouldn't cause a scene.

But a scene was caused anyway, when a short while later an anxious Bagheera showed up at the cafe.
