A Cold-Blooded POV

Chapter 11 Cute But Dangerous

Chapter 11 Cute But Dangerous

The sound of monster cries echoed throughout the forest expansion. Flying creatures constantly flew across the sky, sometimes landing on a branch, causing the leaves to rustle.

Looking down from the sky anybody could spot the medium-large soil hill. On top of the hill, there were grass and weed patches, causing the illusion of a natural hill.

A few meters away from that hill was a lizard, buried in the ground like a comfy blanket, he was under the guise of his camouflage. Now and again the reptile would dig down, making another hole that connected with the original one.

Ethoss had been making a complex underground tunnel system that he would use for his gain. There were tons of holes connected to this system all around the hill making it almost impossible to miss. Just as he finished his last tunnel, the metallic voice rummaged through his mind.

[Dig has reached level 3]

Ethoss flicked his tongue in satisfaction. He wasn't only making hundreds of holes for this hunting scheme, it was also to level his Dig skill.

Walking back up to the surface through his original tunnel pathway, he felt vibrations in the ground. His prey was on the move!

He dashed, moving his legs with as much speed as he could. As he reached the top he watched as the big hill got dug through from the inside.

What dug its way through the hill was something that surprised him, it was a white small rodent-like monster. Its fur was a clean white, snowy even, it looked as if it had never been touched by dirt.

If there was one word to describe the creature, the most appropriate would be, cute. It had an extra long tail that made it look kinda comedic, standing on its two back legs with its two short arms hanging down lazily on its long torso.

Ethoss watched with curiosity as the rodent would walk a few steps and then stop, alerted by unknown sounds.

He quickly noted that the monster probably had good hearing, maybe even enhance hearing if he thought about mutations. He would have to take that into account when he would attack.

The rodent began to move again, unknowingly coming closer to Ethoss's position. The reptile tensed up, soon he would have his chance to attack, however, he had to time his ambush correctly.

As soon as the rodent got approximately 1 meter away from him he surged out of the tunnel, still using his camouflage. And just like before the rodent stopped, its ears twitched left and right.

Though it couldn't see Ethoss it could still hear his movements, it swiftly turned around running back toward the hill.

Apparently, the others that were still inside of the hill hadn't closed up the hole, this would make it easier for the rodent to get back to safety easier.

Catching on to this, Ethoss used his dash skill to catch up with the rodent, yet as he was almost on its tail, the tail deformed and formed into a sharp blade.

With its sharp tail, it swung its body at the reptile's snout however Ethoss slowed down, narrowly dodging the blade and the rodent continued running, making a bigger gap in their positions.

Ethoss resumed his running, and as they reached the hill the reptile felt a sense of danger radiating off of the dark entrance to the hill so he stopped right before he entered.

Just as he stopped and the rodent ran in, hundreds upon hundreds of sharp blades reached stabbing toward the spot that Ethoss was supposed to enter.

After realizing nothing had been stabbed, hundreds of little white furry heads peeked outside at the lizard. Their cute, black, beady eyes , gave off an unsettling aura, which made the lizard happy he didn't enter after the rodent.

He turned around and went into one of the holes he had tugged. He had come to understand that the holes were of no use now, it was obvious how those rodents hunted at this point.

They would walk out of the tunnel looking weak and unprotected, yet that was only bait, as soon as they got the monster where they wanted it they would shred it with their blade-like tails and then share the meal inside of their hill home.

As he entered the tunnel his senses picked up on something else inside one of his tunnels with him. He rushed towards the scent quickly, his camouflage had lifted at this point.

There it was, an armored hedgehog just like the one the dark goblins had hunted. The hedgehog and Ethoss's eyes met directly causing the hedgehog to panic, it tried turning around to face its armor back against the lizard, however, it was too slow.

Venomous Bite!

Venomous Bite!

Venomous Bite!

[Venomous Bite has reached level 3]

[You have defeated level 2 Armatae Ericius]

[You have gained XP]

The voice alerts came in one after the other, the mind of Ethoss. He hadn't thought about the idea of another monster entering his tunnels, but this was good wasn't it?

Now his plan would be even faster. He could hunt the white rodents on the surface and if any monsters mistakenly entered the tunnels he dug, he would immediately notice it. The hunting would be efficient and fast, just the way he liked it.

He looked down at the corpse of the armored hedgehog and bit into it. The blood spurted more and more with each bite. Ethoss had realized after his first bite that he hadn't gotten the alert about eating it.

That alert probably only occurred during the first time eating a monster. Regardless he finished his meal. He continued eating until he had swallowed the corpse whole and nothing was left.

[You have been awarded one Biomass]

Now finished with the meal he headed back up to the surface, he was going to continue scouting out the white rodents. How could he allow all that prey inside the hill to go to waste? His mouth watered at the thought of how much biomass he would get from such a harvest.
