139 Ch. 139 Reminiscing The Past
After setting the destination to Hallstatt Island on the super-advanced car, program M activated its stealth feature, where the figure of the two-door sedan vanished into view.
Then, the car droved by itself to an airport and flew to the island of Hallstatt, only to dive into the nearby open sea. There was no passenger, and it would return to the secret tunnel on its own without being detected by the folks.
On the other hand, Richard borrowed a military plane that Alex brought to Paris to take Richard and his little family to England. That way, no one would know that he had left France and returned to England.
If he used an ordinary plane, the trip would take one and a half to two hours, and using a super-fast plane only took almost half an hour before they finally landed at Cheltenham. From there, they used a car to go to the village of Bourton, which also took thirty minutes.
Fortunately, the roads weren’tweren’t too congested, so they reached their destination much more quickly.
Lori and Anxia continued to marvel at passing the typical European-style buildings along the way. Many cyclists pass by and various kinds of plants adorn the streets they pass.
As their car approached their destination village, they began to see a river that split the road into two, along with several boats parked on the riverbank.
Anxia was reminded of the canal behind Stanley’s house in Delft. At that time, she was irritated by Richard’s attitude, who always stole one or two kisses from her. At that time she never thought that she would accept Richard someday.
Without realizing it, Anxia chuckled, remembering those times and making Richard wonder what he was thinking.
.....
“Is there something funny?”
“No. I was thinking about how I got here.”
“You don’t like being with me?”
“It is not like that. I just never thought or planned to settle down. For me, as long as I could protect Lori and save my mother, that would be enough. But… you set me up, threatening me by using Lori made me hate you half to death and want to kill you.”
Richard smiled at his wife’s words. He couldn’t help but remember when he first met Anxia again. At that time, he thought it would take months or even years to get his wife to open her heart to him. Who would have thought everything would change drastically in just a few months?
“When I still hated you, I never thought I’d be able to smile with you and also… see Lori laughing with a free spirit.”
Hearing her name being called, Lori turned to her mother and put on the biggest smile she had ever given her parents.
“Are you happy?” Richard knew Anxia had opened her heart and accepted his presence. But he preferred to hear it directly from the girl’s mouth.
“I am. Thank you for not giving up on me.”
“Anything for you, my love.” Richard held his wife’s hand and brought it to his mouth to kiss the back of her hand.
Not long after, the car stopped in front of a relatively large house with several windows on the front wall. There was also a distinctive chimney at the end of the house’s roof. On the left, right facing the house, there was a river with clear water so you could see the bottom of the river.
Seeing that the riverbed was not that deep, Anxia guessed that the water level only reached the knees of a grown man.
Summer was about to change to autumn, so the air was neither too hot nor too cold. They could all walk around the house while enjoying the view of this village.
“Wow, daddy! This place is so beautiful! Are we going to live here?”
Everyone could see the little girl’s enthusiasm and her melodious voice.
“Of course. We will stay here for a few months for the summer holiday, and then we’ll live in London.”
London? How many houses does this man have in England?
Although curious, Anxia still did not ask. The most important thing was that where the man lived, she felt at home. Anxia raised her head towards the bright blue sky, welcoming her arrival to England with open arms.
Unbeknownst to her, some memories have been buried in her brain for a long time, surging back.
‘Why do we have to move house?’
‘Xiao Xia, what is the meaning of a house? The important thing is there is papa, mama, and you. It doesn’t matter where we live; as long as we don’t part, the place we will occupy is our home.’
Anxia covered her eyes with one hand as she recalled the beautiful moments she had with her mother.
She remembered they all had to move houses because of her father’s work problems. Not only did they move house, but they had to move out of town, and their new home was smaller than their old house.
Ever since she gave birth to Lori four years ago, Anxia had been trying to remember her memories of being with her parents. She wanted to remember how her parents loved her to make her happy so she could give the same love to make Lori feel as blessed as her daughter.
But, no matter how hard Anxia tried to dig into her memories, not a single memory emerged in her mind. But when she was with Richard and opened her heart, little by little, she began to remember her childhood again.
Perhaps, if she were willing to follow Richard wherever he goes and do fun family activities, her memories with her parents, which were buried in bitterness and grudges, would resurface.
Anxia glanced at her husband, holding their daughter in his arms. He explained something to Lori, earning hearty laughter from the little girl. As Richard reached out his hand towards Anxia, she unhesitatingly took her husband’s hand.
Now, Anxia is ready to face her new life and looking forward to what awaits her.
