Chapter 142 - 142 Ch. 142 Anxia’s Prank

142 Ch. 142 Anxia’s Prank

The thing that Anxia threw was a green leaf toy snake. The toy was coiled like a real one, twisted its long body into a cream cupcake. The shape and color looked so good, like a real snake, that Elwood thought what was passing over its head was real.

Anxia already expected Elwood’s reaction, and her hands had gripped the reins tightly so she wouldn’t fall over as Elwood went wild. She deliberately shouted at the top of her lungs so that her husband would hear her voice. Even though she cried to attract Richard, her mind and body concentrated on maintaining balance and trying to control her restraint on Elwood. However, Anxia still lets Elwood take her running into the woods.

On the other hand, Richard, who heard his wife’s screams, immediately ran towards Bentley to borrow one of the horses. Without asking, Richard knew that the horse his wife was riding had lost control and was running wild. That’s why Richard immediately got on the horse without thinking twice about catching up with his wife.

“Bentley, take care of my daughter!” he ordered before he raced the horse he was riding to catch up with his wife.

Bentley was frozen in place, not expecting the development of a dangerous situation. He couldn’t help but wonder why the timidest and gentle Elwood would be out of control.

“Is my mom okay?” there was a worried tone from a soft melodious voice.

Bentley’s female assistant, Gladys, answered Lori’s question in a soothing voice. “Don’t worry, Miss Lori. Your father was an expert equestrian and must have managed to save your mother. But, I wonder, what made Elwood suddenly go wild?”

Bentley shook his head as he didn’t know the answer either. Both of them had no idea that Anxia herself caused Elwood’s famously docile wildness.

Meanwhile, Anxia, ??who had let Elwood run as fast as it could, started to pull on her reins to make the brown stallion stop.

.....

At first, Elwood protested and neighed a sign to rebel, but Anxia didn’t give up on controlling it as she whistled to calm the horse down. A few seconds later, Elwood was willing to stop but circled in place while glancing downwards as if something was about to attack him.

Anxia let it swirl around restlessly, then patted Elwood’s neck gently while muttering words in a gentle voice. It wasn’t long before Elwood stopped and regained his composure.

Knowing that the horse she was riding had returned to normal, Anxia got down from Elwood and led the horse to tie the rope to a tree. Luckily, she didn’t need to wait too long before hearing the sound of horse hooves very quickly.

Richard, who immediately galloped his horse at full speed, had no idea that all this was his wife’s naughty idea. His heart was rumbling, and he feared something terrible might happen to his wife. His heart kept praying that Anxia would not fall or get hurt. This was the first time Richard had felt such extreme fear.

However, when he saw Anxia casually stroking Elwood, Richard felt like cold water splashed on him. After stopping the horse he was riding, Richard directly dismounted and walked over to his wife without caring that the borrowed horse might run away on its own if it wasn’t tied to a tree. He startled Anxia by cupping her face with his hands to observe her well-being. “Are you hurt?”

Anxia couldn’t answer her question because now Richard spun her around until he made Anxia dizzy. “You’re not hurt? How are you feeling now? You must be terrified.” Richard thought his wife was traumatized and frightened, remembering her hysterical screams when the brown horse ran wild.

Without giving Anxia an answer or responding to his questions, Richard hugged Anxia tightly. One hand patted her back while the other stroked the back of Anxia’s head. Richard also did not stop kissing the top of her head while whispering comforting words to ease his wife’s fears.

Well, Anxia wasn’t afraid, yet she did not expect to be overwhelmed by controlling Elwood. However, she was still in control and wasn’t traumatized or anything her husband thought she was. Only, Anxia didn’t justify it and enjoyed the man’s embrace. She could even hear her husband’s heartbeat when she pressed her ear right in front of the man’s right chest. Was Richard so afraid that something terrible would happen to her?

Anxia felt a bit regretful for tricking her husband with such a bad joke.

“Richie, I’m fine,” Anxia said in a soft voice as she tried to lift her head to look at her husband. “Truly, I’m really fine.”

“Are you sure?”

“You know I’m not a weak girl, and this kind of thing doesn’t scare me at all. After all, I managed to calm her down without falling over. Aren’t I amazing?”

Richard took a deep breath without loosening his embrace.

“Xia Xia, from now on, you are not allowed to ride a horse.”

“What? Why? Horseback riding is fun.”

“No. I’m not sure I can survive if something like this happens again.”

“Richie,” Anxia sulked as she raised her hands around her husband’s neck. “Forgive me, okay? I won’t do it again.”

“Do what? We will never know when the horse we ride goes wild, and we cannot guarantee that something like this will not happen again.”

“To tell you the truth… I planned it.”

“What do you mean?”

“This horse is terrified of snakes, so I purposely threw a toy snake at it.”

“…” Richard couldn’t answer to process his wife’s confession. He remembered Elwood did have a phobia of snakes, but... he couldn’t understand his wife’s statement telling him she threw a toy snake at Elwood.

That means…

Anxia was purposely scaring Elwood and made him scared to death!? Richard’s brown eyes, once filled with worry and love for his wife, now darkened with anger.

“Qiao Anxia, ??do you want to explain why you are doing all this for?”

Anxia gulped nervously.
