Chapter 282

Once Cordy got out of her car, she headed straight to the elevator without looking back once.

John smiled faintly at her indifference. She was so hot-and-cold! Not to mention, she didn’t even thank him for escorting her.

Over the next few days, Cordy would visit John's apartment.

Even though she ate dinner before going, Dicky had her eat with him nonetheless.

When she refused, he flashed his sad puppy face at her and asked if she didn’t like eating with him.

Unable to withstand that wounded look, Cordy simply gave up and ate dinner over at John’s for the next few days.

It certainly didn’t hurt once she got used to it.

One day, while they were having a break during their lessons, Dicky suddenly said, "Mommy, my teacher told us that the school's sports meet is this Friday.

All the kids’ parents will be there, and I've already registered for sprinting, swimming, high jump, and relay race."

Friday? That was three more days.

She would probably be free.

The instant she saw Dicky’s hopeful gaze, she agreed without hesitation.

"Okay."

"I love you, Mommy!"

Dicky exclaimed happily, though his little cheeks were soon dropping again.

"The teacher also said that our scores will be announced, and I won't get an A if I still can't get my pronunciations right."

"It's alright. We still have two days, don't we? Let's do our best!"

"Okay!"

Dicky nodded enthusiastically.

And yet, Cordy remained teetering on the edge of sanity as she kept teaching Dicky.

After coaxing him to sleep, she left the room feeling melancholic.

John was at the bar as usual, and she was actually confused.

Why would he avoid the comfort of his study and sit on that rigid bar stool instead? Was that even comfortable?

"How did it go?" he asked.

"Nowhere."

John chuckled, finding her adorable whenever she stepped outsider, looking despondent.

"How are you still able to smile?" Cordy demanded.

"Because I look ugly crying."

As usual, John brought him some late-night snacks, though tonight's was different. It was rum baba tonight, and it looked so soft and appetizing...

Nonetheless, Cordy shot him a glare.

Wasn’t he worried that he would make her fat by feeding her such high sugar foods every night?

"Sweet food improves the mood," he said.

"Winston was worried your health might be affected because of Dicky, and..."

Cordy refused to listen, and picked up the fork to start eating. It did taste good. She had gone through a good portion when a thought occurred to her, though she hesitated to ask.

"Hey...Have you ever thought about Dicky's IQ?"

John burst out in laughter right after she said that.

Cordy scowled.

"Is it really that funny?"

"No," he replied.

"I'm being serious."

John turned serious right as well, and told her solemnly, "Miss Sachs, do you really think our child would do that poorly?"

"Well, what's your SAT score?" Cordy asked.

"I skipped that, though I have the honor of a double degree at Hanford University and graduated summa cum laude at my alma mater.

And in Hanford's century worth of history, less than fifty individuals earned that distinction, one of whom is the current secretary general of the League of Countries—"

"Stop," Cordy snapped, cutting him short—she only asked him a question, not to hear him brag.

"Maybe positive, and positive gets negative."

"Are you really Dicky's mom?"

John couldn’t resist asking.

"But we have to face reality," she argued.

"I was ignorant and naive while I was pregnant, and I didn’t care for anything. There were even occasions when I considered an abortion.I’ve heard that babies are aware of that even when they’re still in the womb.Maybe that qualifies as spiritual abandonment, which in turn affected his growth—"

"His IQ.is 165," John said, cutting her short.

He had the feeling she would suffer a nervous breakdown if he didn’t tell her that.
