Chapter 641

Richard returned home happily in the afternoon, and the first thing he did was to ask Winston urgently, “Was there a parcel for me, Winston?’

“Parcel?” Winston was perplexed.

“It’s on your desk. I happened to be here when it arrived, so I put it in your room,” Cordy said casually from the couch while watching TV.

“Thanks, Mommy!” Richard said politely before dashing upstairs.

“Be careful, you’ll trip if you run too quickly! Even the lump on Ms. Sachs’ head has yet to fade!” Winston warned him loudly from downstairs.

Cordy could not help pursing her lips, since she did not go to work because of that huge lump on her head.

She could not help remembering Lucas in turn… along with that paternity test.

She was feeling an emotional roller coaster right then.

Richard excitedly found the parcel on his desk.

He had always been sharp and meticulous, but he was somehow completely oblivious to the fact that the parcel had been opened.

He promptly picked up the envelope and took out the piece of paper inside, and he read the paternity test results excitedly.

Then, he seemed to turn so still as if petrified and stayed that way for a long while.

Cordy eventually gave in to concern and arrived at the doorway to his room.

She stood there, quietly watching the look of disbelief in his face as he failed to react for a long while.

Eventually, she could not help saying, “Dicky, there are only that many miracles in this world.”

Richard’s eyes were red even as he looked at her.

The paternity test results read: [No observable biological relation between subjects.]

But Lucas was his daddy! How could he be wrong?

In reality, Cordy felt her chest hurt when she read it as well.

She was not disappointed that Lucas was not John since she really never wished forthat.

It just felt like John died again, and it made her remember the sight of his back as he slowly walked away.

It had been three years, but it was still so fresh in her memory-she could not forget it at all.

“I know how you feel, Dicky,” she said. “But we should accept reality.”

“But he really is Daddy!” Richard stubbornly insisted.

“Science doesn’t lie,” Cordy replied, looking him in the eyes. “And we should trust it.”

Richard was left biting his lip, doubting science for the first time.

How could this be?!

He had imagined himself showing his mommy the paternity test results and then telling his daddy.

After that, their family would be whole again.

“Take your time to calm down,” Cordy said and turned to leave.

She had no idea if Richard would be overwhelmed, but the boy was already ten and should have his privacy. He did not have to show her his vulnerabilities, which was why she gave him time alone for reality to sink in.

After Cordy was gone, however, Richard did not accept it at face value.

Instead, he contacted the hospital with the number on the paper with his own phone, asking, “Hello, my name is Richard Levine. I sent in hair samples yesterday for a parental test… Yes, I just wanted to ask if the test result is a hundred percent accurate?”

“All I can tell you is that with the current technological standard our organization provides, the results are completely accurate. If you have any doubts, however, you may try again with other organizations,” the voice on the other end replied formally.

“Have there been any cases of test inaccuracies?”

“Not thus far.”

In fact, Richard himself had made sure to find the best organization for the job-there was hardly a chance for error.

“Perhaps my samples were the issue?” Richard pressed.

“There were no issues with the samples. The genes of the individual can be observed just fine.” The response was once again definitive.
