Chapter 395: No respect

Chapter 395: No respect

Instead of explaining why he was here as was expected, though Eldrian had no idea why everyone looked at him. He naturally thought that Thesolis would explain it. Eldrian instead looked at the man who had been constantly berating them.

Without a care, Eldrian also used mana sense on everyone in the room. Unlike before though, someone actually realized what he was doing. However, the old centaur with a graying coat decided not to mention anything.

The use of it calmed Eldrian as he confirmed that it seemed everyone inside was normal. He still did not know what to look for though.

'Why is he so angry?' Eldrian wondered as he stared at the one who had berated them, the... Well Eldrian had no idea what type of demi-human the man was. If not for mana sense he would not even know the person wasn't human. This guy's nostrils were flaring like Eldrian thought was only possible in cartoons.

Coughing, Thesolis realized that Eldrian seemed to either not care for the awkwardness or not be aware of it. So she decided to give Eldrian a little push, "Haru, please explain what you told me."

"What? You mean about the corruption? How did you not managed to find it?" Eldrian asked instead of answering, causing the tent to reach a new temperature. One that would likely be able to boil water.

Thesolis truly wished she could give Eldrian a slap for his insolence, however, she also realized that the Chosen did not know their customs and suddenly she realized that he might not even know he was in front of the king.

Eldrian knew, mana sense had given him that information. He also knew that the old centaur with a graying coat was the old king and the strongest person he had ever come to meet outside of the dwarves.

The demi-human commander was also surprisingly strong, this was of course natural. However, Eldrian still didn't want to give them any face. He did not like not being given the normal respect due to a person. Naturally, he was too comfortable due to how strong people had all been friendly before.

"Just explain it," Thesolis said with a sigh, wishing she had forced him to tell her beforehand. Or at least that she would have warned him who would be in the tent. Now it was too late to bring this up.

However, she hadn't known who would be there. Only Evale was stationed in the camp, yet strangely she was missing from this group.

"Alright, but I really do not understand how you missed it. Sure, the corrupted area is filled with the death element. Yet, the lines between the trees are as clear as day. All you had to do-"

"Lines? What lines?" Everyone in the tent asked, naturally not in the same words and a few in much with far more pressure.

Clearing his throat instead of immediately answering, Eldrian replied, "As I was saying, all you need to do is use Mana Examination to see them."

Hearing the unknown term the group turned to Thesolis who quickly answered the unasked question. "Colorful Sights."

A look of confusion however appeared as everyone heard this, "Naturally we have not been ignoring such a useful scouting spell. However, the area is only filled with the death element. It starts out where you can still see through it, however, deeper in it becomes like the dark of night."

'What are they talking about? It isn't dark, it is grey. And-' Eldrian's thoughts paused as he realized what was going on. 'I see, Mana Examination isn't perfect. I already knew that, however...' Turning to the Tier 10 centaur, Eldrain asked himself, 'Do they not have an improved version?'

"I think I know what is wrong," Eldrian said, not sure if he should share with the group that he had a special ability or not. If Pelaros had been here he would have been willing, however, he trusted no one but Kydone in the tent and she did not seem comfortable at all. Thesolis was probably the next closest but Eldrian didn't know her enough to trust.

"Mana Examination..." Pausing Eldrian added the name for the spell he really did not like, "Or Colorful Sights as you call it. It isn't a perfect spell you know? I mean, I realized that even after having just modified Mana Inspection."

The commander's muscles bulged and his cheeks turned to a leathery state. He hated how the elf seemed to be looking down on them. However, he had to secede that he had never heard of someone calling the spell lacking.

"What is wrong with the spell?" The old centaur asked, his interest piqued and no one else seemingly willing to ask.

"I mean, everything," Eldrian replied but before continuing he turned to Thesolis and asked if she could quickly draw the spell for him before continuing. "You see, I never really saw the spell module for your..." He paused as the name just felt bad, "Colorful Sights. I just want to confirm that it is indeed the same as Mana Examination before continuing."

Those in the tent were shocked hearing Eldrian saying this. They turned to Thesolis questioning if he truly had discovered the spell on his own. Her subtle nod shocking the group and causing them to ask just how they had not been filled in on this.

Naturally, there were so many things happening that it was hard to share all the interesting things. Especially when those things aren't crucial or time-sensitive.

Thesolis quickly drew the spell module on a piece of paper and handed it to Eldrian. After taking a look Eldrian smiled as it was indeed the same, though a few things were slightly different.

"First off..." He started pointing out places where the nodes could be slightly moved or the pathways slightly altered to increase the efficiency of the spell.

Naturally, he had had no need to improve it after unlocking mana sense. He had also only recently come to be able to see this for certain spells. He hadn't had the time to test it and had only realized it now. 'When did it become this clear?' Eldrian asked himself before continuing.

"However..."

'Shit, I explained all this and can't say it is theoretical without revealing that I have a special ability.'

"This is quite brilliant, however, some of these changes wouldn't work." Said Talastos, the old king. "At least not without you being able to control your mana nearly perfectly..." Naturally, seeing that Eldrian was a High Elf the group quickly realized what the old king was getting at.

"At most you would be able to make these modifications, however, I am unsure if it will still be stable then."

Eldrian shrugged, shocked that someone could actually determine if what he had said would be possible. And to do that at a glance. 'Why didn't he improve it then?' Eldrian questioned and after a few seconds of mulling it over while the rest looked at the modified spell, Eldrian realized it was likely due to there being no need.

Everyone thought of the spell as useless. Sure, it had its places but those were few and far between. Taking the time to improve it, according to what Eldrian knew, meant a Greatmage (Tier 6) or higher spending months on it.

Naturally, any sane person would rather try to invent personal spells or learn more useful spells that would improve their ability to fight and survive.

"We don't have the time to ensure this module will be possible to cast." The current king, Farest said. "I can already confirm that this one isn't stable."

"Well, you don't need it." Eldrian said, "Is there anything special about the Ackley trees?"
