Chapter 99: She was Scared Out of Her Wits
In the Mercedes-Benz, Shen Chengjing leaned against the window, looking at the scenery that was slowly disappearing into the distance.
“In winter, do you think it’ll snow in City A?” City A was located at the intersection between the North and the South. Occasionally, there would be snowflakes floating around, but in recent years, the temperature had been getting higher and higher. So much so that it had not snowed for a few years.
“Do you want to see the snow?” Moh Yanchen asked as he drove.
She appeared to be deep in thought as she gazed out the window. She was engrossed in her thoughts and did not answer him.
He held the steering wheel, turned round a corner elegantly, and went straight onto the highway.
“Ring.” At this moment, Shen Chengjing’s phone rang, pulling back her wandering thoughts. She held the phone quietly and saw that it was an unfamiliar number.
“Hello,” she greeted softly.
On the other end of the phone, there was silence at first before the caller sighed.
“Shen Chengjing, it’s Grandma.”
Lin Feng’s voice came from the other end of the phone. Shen Chengjing was stunned. She did not expect her to call!
Going to the Moh Family was a little unpleasant, but Lin Feng and Lin Qinghui gave her a good feeling. They cared for her very much, especially with the situation two days ago when Lin Qinghui was being protective of her. It was still vivid in her mind, making her feel some heartache.
“Grandma...” Just as she was about to say something, she was interrupted from the other side.
“I heard that Chenghuan went to Moh Park and got into a fight. When you came to the old house last time, you probably noticed that father and son were on bad terms. It’s pretty normal for them to have some conflicts,” Lin Feng said. She took a sip of tea and continued, “In the future, you and San Er should come back more often and spend more time with us. After a long time, perhaps some of the knots in their hearts can be untied.”
Hearing this, Shen Chengjing’s heart became heavy. She could ignore the Moh Family’s issues, but what about Moh Yanchen’s problems? She recalled the night he had drunk too much and held onto the photo album. No matter how strong he was, he was still a pitiful person. Did she really step on his bloody scar for the sake of these favors?
“I know what to do, Grandma.”
Hearing this, Lin Feng let out a long sigh. “It’s good that you know what to do. Grandma knows that you’re a good child. San Er will depend on you from now on.”
“Yes, Grandma.”
“Ahem,” Lin Feng was so emotional that she started coughing.
Hearing the coughing sound, Shen Chengjing’s heart was worried. She quickly said, “What’s wrong, Grandma? Are you not feeling well? Do you want to see a doctor?”
“It’s an old illness. It’s not a big deal. Let’s leave it at that,” Lin Feng said and hung up the phone.
Shen Cheng looked at the phone that had been hung up and turned her head to look at Moh Yanchen. He was driving seriously, but looking at his furrowed brows, it was obvious that he had heard the conversation.
“Uncle.”
“Huh?” Moh Yanchen’s brows were tightly furrowed. As he looked at her, he tilted his handsome face slightly and the corners of his mouth curled up into a smile.
Looking at his smiling face, she pursed her lips as she held the phone in her hand. “By the way, Uncle, were you eavesdropping?”
“I listened openly.” Moh Yanchen stopped her without thinking.
When she heard that, her nose wrinkled slightly. She leaned forward and examined his face thoroughly. “Hmm! Not even a dimple.”
“What do you mean?” When he heard that, he did not think it was a good thing.
“Guess.” She sat back down and looked at him through the car mirror with a sly smile on her face.
Moh Yanchen pursed his lips and smiled. Looking at her confident expression, he reached out his hand and gently stroked her head. His fingertips slowly slid down her hair.
Her body stiffened and her eyes widened. Her eyes kept darting around as she continuously swallowed her saliva.
