Age of Heroes (Age of Heroes Chronicles)

Chapter 522

Chapter 522: An empire divided i

The wind is cold on a night like this. A night like dreams. The sound of the wind like music comes to the cave.

This cave is one of the caves in these one hundred and eight islands around the Dark Sea to reach the New World.

And in that cave, as nondescript and forgettable the cave is, dangerous and uncomfortable as it is, a youth is sleeping comfortably in that cave.

All around him were bones of big animals. The walls of the cave were covered with green solid moss.

Life flourished around the youth, and magic comes from him even as he sleeps. His breath inhale and exhale the essence of the world.josei

The youth lied down on wolf and lion's furs sew together, like the youth was sleeping on some royal palace.

There is no fireplace in this cave, no sign of a fire pit or any kind of fire to scares the creature of the night from entering yet the slithering beast that resides in this cave does not dare to enter the cave and hinder that youth sleep, like he was something divine

Even the bear who saw the youth run away in fear as its instinct told it that whoever this youth is he is dangerous and is a threat to his survival.

The night was a full moon, the moon is high and the clouds are beautiful. A wind gust suddenly knocked the cave entrance and it creates a whistling sound, like a Song.

The youth then suddenly opens his eyes and it was burning with flames. He looks left and right, feeling the wind caressing his cheeks, like a lover.

'Amara, is that you?' The youth asked, half expectant, half annoyed. The wind does not answer.

The youth got up and his eyes reflect an ancient wisdom.

He was tall, six feet five, imposing and lean, not of stocky build but even so power radiated out of him, and even when just stands doing nothing, there is this kind of divine light radiating out of him.

The flames on his eyes died off replacing it with golden irises on both of his eyes. Clearly whoever this youth is he is not human but neither is he a demon.

'Are you there, Amara?' He asked again.

The wind passes him by like it was teasing him.

And the youth face began to distort. He then yelled

'Are you playing with me, Amara!' He yelled and the clouds in the night sky turns dark as lightning thundered across the cave.

He roared and what comes out of his mouth is not a scream but Dragon Words, and the whole island was slowly being covered by snow.

Then the youth sighed

'Is this His plans or is it yours? If it is His, then I know when I am beaten. This is his story after all. He wanted a Final Battle, he will get a final Battle. But if this is your plan, know this, I'm not willing.'

He talks like there is someone listening to him.

Is he talking to the wind? Is he talking to the walls? He doesn't know. But he hopes someone, somewhere out there is listening.

He hopes that Amara might be listening. He hopes that He is listening.

The Old Gods may have been deaf and weak, dying of in some remotes corner of a world where Man reigns, but he knows that Amara still listens.

He knows that He is still listening

'Who knows whether that prophecy was His Doings or yours? I am a Dragon. A noble race that travels the stars and rule over the firmaments. To be bind upon on a mortal life, this is your plan. My hearts beat the same as his, bleeds as the same he is. If I knew what I agreed on when I share my heart with that child, I would have rather died.'

Then he walks to the entrance of the cave and breathe in the fresh night air. Lightning no longer could be seen and the wind has slowed down.

Then he continues

'It is all fine if he wins. But if he loses, it's my soul on the line here. I will not return to the Sea of All Things. I could not see Garawelian. I will not see Garwound. I will not see my brothers and sisters, my mother and father, I will not see them. If the boy loses. Instead I can only imagine what Vasir would be doing with my soul.'

The wind picked up again and the wind washes over the trees around the cave, the sound of the leaves and trees swaying create a humming sound, akin of a Song.

The boy smile and still he talks to the wind, looking at nothing in particular.

'You betrayed us during the Age of the Gods and yet I did not pursue that. Then you protected Levitia during the Age of Man and still I did not pursue it. And now, you even want to use me? To become a mere mount for him?'

He looked at the stars and lamented

'Amara, we are the last of our kind. Dragons are dying, Old Gods are fading and Man reigns. Heroes rises and villains appeared. Darkness and light, good and evil. This fight has been going on for a long time. If you did not betray us in the Age of the Gods, this battle between those two might not happen. It might have ended with the battle between Levitia and Alexander. But no! You could not let that happen could you? You love that champion of yours almost as you love that mortal. A god that falls in love with a mortal, what a joke!'

The wind become harsher as it enters the caves as the temperature inside the cave drop drastically.

'Hehehe' he suddenly chuckles

'Or maybe this is His plans all along. Maybe you were meant to betray us. Strings on all of us, right Amara?'

The wind suddenly stops and disperses after the youth said those words. The words seem to echo inside the cave.

Strings on all of us

The youth look into the sky and he saw the Conqueror Star, shining with a dark luster, like signifying something

'Amara you must not blame me. If this fate is your doing, I will try to undo it. If it's not, then I guess I should be prepared. I'm near, I know. The Barrier is erected which means that Astiel and Jurgan has killed the Priests. But I have my way. What do you think Amara?'

He asks looking at the stars and another gust of wind washed over him and the youth smiles bitterly

'Puppets on a string, that's all we are to Him. What good is power when we are not granted free will? How I envy those mortals.'

He lamented as he looks at the skies, expecting someone to answer. When no answer is given, he just chuckles dryly.

Then he went back inside the caves, lied down on his wolf and tiger fur, and closes his eyes and sleep.

For he now has a purpose.
