Chapter 564: The traces of the past

The Ruins of Alendar is what people of the thirteen tribe called the large patch of barren sandy land that one would see after coming out from the Illusion Forest if you travelled to the East. 

The reason why this is bizarre was that toward the west there is the Illusion Forest with vegetation and mountain and hills with cool breezy winds. 

It did not look that different from the scenery one would find on some countryside of the Human Continent

On it southwest is the Tree Rings of the Arakian ancestral lands and the land around that tree ring is very fertile. 

Not far away from that was the Eradites who also lives around great forest and large land with greenery where they farm and hunt.

On the north east of this desert is the Green Plains where the Saranites would graze their sheep and train their warhorses and rides their beast.

None of them is like the areas around the Ruins of Alendar. It is like a different world altogether.

The Elders of the Vergonian is learned men. They once went out from the ruins and calculate the extent of the desert and where it ended.

The Elders come to the discovery that the desert had a radius. 

In that radius, there is only sand and barren lands.

Some said it had something to do with the First Generation Spear of Doom. 

But it lacks any of the effect that would present itself if the desert was created by the Spear of Doom.

Whatever the case, the Ruins of Alendar is a mysterious land in the Shadowlands, possessing its own unique ecosystem and weather. 

One could see rain on the forest outside the desert but when one enters the desert the weather would be hot and humid like there is barrier that separated the other area from the Ruins of Alendar

Elkar had asked this matter to Astiel. He was quite curious on the reason why such things existed. 

Elkar did not know how old Astiel is, but if the lore is to be believed, he has been alive for quite some time and he might be here when this planet is still a flaming ball of rock 

Celestial bodies. 

Planets. 

This ancient knowledge was given to him by Astiel.  josei

It is said that during the time of the First Generation, these humans mastered the art of the stars

They know the changing of weathers, predict the movement of the stars, foreseen great disaster.

Astiel said to him, knowledge is what makes the First generation able to lord all over the world at that time. 

Metal whales sails the sea, flying metal birds fly across the skies

They could cut down mountains, create tall and titanic structure that reach the sky and they could look at the stars above, like it was in front of them

All of these miraculous stories, stories that sounds like something that came out of some lunatic ravings was actually true.

Astiel once walked among the humans and he once saw the prosperity of the First Generation.

Astiel told him that all the stories about the First Generation in the books and in the historical records was not exaggerated. Instead, it was under exaggerated.

Astiel said it was at that time he knew humanity would rise. 

Before the First Generation came, most humans live like beast. 

While some of them slowly create a semblance of some civilization, it is still something that would took time.

But the First Generation speed everything up. 

They come from a flash of light and then they suddenly appeared and changes the rules of the world

The demons were surpassed, the Gods were fearful and even the Dragons had no power over these new species of humans

Of course, Elkar was quite interested in this. One of the mysteries of the First Generation was where did they come from? And where did they go?

Yet, Astiel himself said even with all of his magical powers, he is not able to deduce anything. 

Anything about them is covered up by the heavens.

Elkar shakes his head as he then moved away from the deep opening leading to that abyss and now he started walking around the ruins.

This is the ancestral lands of the Vergonian. 

It would be a lie to say he is not interested in looking around.

He sighed nonetheless

There is a complication in his heart that he did not know how to resolve. 

Today, almost all of the older generation of the Vergonian people had died in this ancestral lands. 

Most of them died in Astiel hands. Other was scorched to death by Jurgan fires. And some of them were even killed by him.

He looks all around him and all he could see is corpses of death people. 

And a few hundreds of Darkspawn a few distance away from him. A lot of them is feasting on the body of the death. 

And they even feasted their fallen kind. None of them possess intelligence. But they do possess emotions. 

Hunger, bloodlust, desire. Simple emotions for simple beings.

This is the weapon of the Darkfather.  It is another name for Lightbringer. 

'A tribe eradicated' He seems to mutter to himself.

The young amongst them had already long went to the Wall and went to the three kingdoms to seek survival there.

Elkar did not have special feelings for the people of the Thirteen Tribe. 

Even though he used to be the servant of the King of Arakath, he did not know much about the other continent other than the Human Continent.

It is understandable as even most human peasant did not know much about other continents of the world before the Resurgence movement in Eden

Humans known the Dark lands of the Demon land because of the conflict between them and the long bridge that connected the two continent.

Most of the legends and heroes of humankind was born during that era of chaos between humans and demons.

Levitia. Leliana. Alan. Zhu Ar Zur. Duvan. Alexander. Aresh. Hippolia. These are the names that become legends in the human lands. 

But demons also have great heroes that appeared during that era 

Demon King Balduriel. Viscount of Mount Tylgar. Queen of Valley of Fire. The Ten Avenging Demons of Spirit Mountains.

If not for these demons who serve in contrast to Levitia and his companion, how could there would be such a colorful story of heroes and good and evil

A hero is only as good as its villain. 

The reason why Levitia is deified above all other heroes that live in his era is not simply because he is the strongest amongst them all.

It is because he fought the most villainous and evilest that Demonkind had to offer. Elkar know this dark history. 

Demonkind at that time break the Accord between them and the First Generation.

Hence, humans had always hated them and when the Demonkind once again started to enslave humans and went to take the lands of Humans, the people of the Human Continent which is different from the other continent rises up.

The reason why the Human Continent, or as it formerly known Davarus is different from the continent was that it was the continent where the First generation had the most impact

Davarus also retains a lot of the value of the First Generation and they still are. 

Their alphabets, their leagues and their culture mostly derives from the First Generation

The Demon King at that time trying to enslave humans of Davarus touch the bottom line of the humans of that era.

Those humans would not mind serving under people as long as they swore fealty

It is an act of virtue, an act of honor. Swearing in of fealty is a recognition of the superior person virtue 

When the higher lords break the trust between vassal and liege, the vassal is then well within his right to nullify the oaths.

Enslavement on the other hand is to do away with this sacred right. 

To the people of the Human Continent, when one become slave, the guilty one is not the slave. It is the slavers.

The people of the Human Continent would rather choose death than being a slave. Elkar himself was not a fan of this part of the history of Demonkind. 

But the Demonkind during the reign after Levitia death is very different. His parent believes in a new future.

And what did they get? 

They were murdered and he now an orphan with no family.  Hatred still courses through his veins. He still wanted his revenge. 

His revenge used to be simple. Diabolical. Cruel. But simple. Now, it is not that simple anymore.

Elkar walk the ancient street of the ruins. 

This is the street of the Ruins of Alendar, the land which the Vergonian chooses as their ancestral land

Vergonian are a mysterious bunch. 

They mastered many of the ancient language of the ancient civilization that used to live in the Land of Shadows before the Darkness appears.
