Age of Heroes (Age of Heroes Chronicles)

Chapter 615

Chapter 615: The things people do for love (2)

Orval nodded but then he poses a question to Arial

'if that is really true, then Alexander have many chance in the past and even after his coronation to try to kill Levitia. There were even many more times for him to poison him. When he was in the Bridge, Alexander actually, in some of the obscure anecdote of that time, it is said that Alexander actually advises Levitia to stay and stop agitating and driving the Demonkind to the corner. Even a rat would fight a cat when they are cornered to the point of desperation.  josei

He paused for a second before saying

'Levitia had won. The Human Continent had gained peace. The Dark Lords had retreated back to their homeland, fearing the humans'

'There was no need for Levitia to start another war. Yet, Levitia blinded by his hatred and his desire to stamp out the Demons, decided that he would go march to the Darklands and commit a massacre'

Orval shakes his head a bit and then continue.

'At that time, Levitia was the strongest person in the world. His sword could cut down mountain, and his body is almost invulnerable to all weapons. His internal energy was so vast that those who had met him, liken him to an endless sea.  He, alone is considered a walking army. And he brought an army with him, to go march to the Darklands to kill all the Dark Lords and wipe out the Demonkind.

'It seems that you do not like Levitia that much' Arial said

Orval shake his head

'Do not mistake me. Levitia is a great hero. He is gentle to his friend, valiant and a man that values friendship. Even till the end, he did not expect that one of his own companion schemes against him'

He paused for a second there, a bitter smile on his face and then he continued

'He had the virtue of knights. He helped the weak, protect the state, loyal, righteous and kind. But this is reserved to humans. I do not blame him'

'That time was a different time. It is a different era than ours. The strong oppresses the weak, human was enslaved and discriminated, and to the demons, we, humans, are sub creation, inferior to them who are blessed with magic and physical superiority since birth'

'The Demons were not fond of the study of literature, of good and evil. Arakath did not act for righteousness, they act for their interest. The reason they were holding back for almost a few thousand years is simply because of the Accord they have with the First Generation'

'But while the promise last long, once it is broken, then there is no way, that the Dark Lords of Arakath would go back to being the way they were. It is hard to pinpoint who is right and wrong at that time. Each era had their own problems and it is not easy for us, who lived in an era different from Levitia, to judge him simply as wrong or right'

Orval then added

'If Levitia was not as brutal as he was against the Demonkind, then we humans would have been forever enslaved by the Dark Lords. He is the protector of humankind, almost like the Divine himself sent him down to be born, so that he could protect one of his creation, humanity from suffering'

'The current Demonkind and the past Demonkind is very different. They were more powerful in the past and…. crueler'

'And while giants are still not that many, at least at that time, it is still a lot more than today. Dragon still roams the sky and all kinds of monsters reside in the Dark Lands. If Levitia did not do what he did, how could the Dark Lord would be convinced?'

'Still, if Levitia did not turn back on that bridge that day and instead went to wage war against the entirety of Arakath, there would probably be another decade of war'

'It did not matter whether Levitia wins or lose. Both of the result would be disastrous. Every living thing had a soul'

'As it was wrong for the Dark Lords to abuse their power, to enslaved humankind, to kill as they please, it is also wrong for our Great Hero to levied the hatred of the death of his parent to an entire race of living beings'

'If Levitia had loses, then what he did was sowing the seed of discord and hatred between Demonkind and Humankind for ages to come. If he wins, he would become a great sinner and even humanity would probably would not openly praises him as he is today'

He sighed.

'if Alexander was truly intending to scheme against Levitia since the beginning, he would not have advised Levitia to abandon his desire to wipe out the Demonkind. If he truly was intending for the downfall of his companion in the beginning, instead of adamantly trying to persuade Levitia to stay, he would be like Alan, who supported Levitia'

'Because regardless of the consequences, Alexander would win. Levitia wins, he would be regarded as a bloodthirsty sinner. If he loses, he is the one who would be blamed for the intensification of hatred between humans and demons.

'Levitia a great hero. But someone that great, should not forget that sometimes, they could not act simply based on their emotions. He is the symbol of humanity. If he were the one that were to kill so many Demonkind, how could it be like today, that my lord is able to secure an alliance with Arakath, prospering together.

Who could have thought that the Emperor that governs almost all four corners of the Human Continent would have a friend who is a Demon and not any kind of demon but a demon of great nobility?

Who could have thought that it would be a human that save the Queen of the Demon and who could have thought that the High King of Arakath would be grateful to a human monarch?

Arial listen to this and he found reason in Orval words.

'Some human extremist had said that Levitia should have finished what he wanted to do at that time. Instead, I am grateful that at that time, he went back. He abandons his hatred and for once, in his journey, he chose peace.

'He chose…. hope'

At this Orval smiles. Then he continues

'If not, who could have foreseen that demons and humans could live together in peace, regardless of the difference between religion and culture, both respecting each other?'

For a moment, there is silence. Orval waited for a few second, taking a few breaths. Then he continues saying

'As for Alexander. Alexander had many chances to steel his heart and killed Levitia if he really wanted to'

'It would not be easy but Alexander always had the mean. It is not that Alexander could not see that Levitia have more influence than him and even more charismatic that him when they are around each other'

'But he had never tried to do so. Instead, before the murky event of the Last Dinner, Alexander admired Levitia and one of Levitia closest friend. If Alexander was really scheming form the beginning, how could Levitia have trusted him. But it is undeniable that Alexander did change'

'However, it is not for the throne. Alexander does not want the throne that much as history seems to indicate'

'Then what do you believe motivate the decision of one of Levitia companion to betray him?' Arial ask.

At this Orval smiles.

'The one and only thing that have been the central stray of most of books in the world. Love.'

'Love?' that is one answer that Arial had not expected.

'Yes, my lord. Love. Alexander killed Levitia because of love'

Arial forehead creased and then he said

'I could not quite follow' Orval smiles and then he said

'You see, people always remember the story of how Levitia saved Leliana and how they were betrothed. Most opera would adapt it to a tragic story of unfulfilled love. But who did she marry?

Arial face darkened a bit.

'Alexander'

'Yes, now you see where I am going with this.'

Pausing for a second, he continued saying

'Even when they were brothers, Alexander admire and had feelings for Leliana. But Leliana was betrothed to Levitia. And they love each other. Leliana and Levitia found a soulmate with each other. Still they were not married because Levitia was preoccupied with fighting the forces of the Dark Lord and contending with the champions of the Gods'

Then he raises his finger as Arial was about to interrupt

'History did not seem to want to record that the many heroes and villains that had challenged Levitia at that time were as monstrous as Levitia himself'

'It is hard for people of today, to understood that in the past, the Gods, the Divines while their influence was not as powerful as during the early years of the Age of Gods, they were still there, lurking in the darkness. Some people today, even thought that they were just myths, stories to instruct and to warn'

Smiling, Orval look at Arial and said

'But we both know, that these mystical beings do exist' Arial nodded.
