Chapter 798 T.D.O.N.B: Hole In The Ground

Chapter 798 T.D.O.N.B: Hole In The Ground

I rushed in a random direction to look for a new place, but I quickly encountered the end of the dome, which meant the path I'd picked was wrong. To not waste any more time, I chose to fly up, and get a better look around.

I came to the conclusion that I had moved too far in the direction to the left of the city, so I decided to change that, heading closer to the mountains. It was hard to judge if there was something beyond the range because I just couldn't see past the chain blocking my view. Flying too high was also not an option. Why? Because it was too damn cold up there.

Eventually, though, I got where I wanted to get. I needed to do some shenanigans on the way because it was simply freezing up there, so I used a little bit of fire magic to make myself warmer.

The mountain range was quite big, but beyond it, or maybe I should say, in the middle of it, was a rocky path much lower, but still above the normal ground level.

It was crossed with many crevasses, reaching the depths of the planet, but above them, you could see natural bridges, if you could actually call natural anything created by the sapling. They all seemed to be leading towards a settlement built at the base of another mountain. This one, though, wasn't so tall.

Roaming that space were more giants. Well... That was my original idea, but as I got closer, one of them looked my way, and I caught up on the fact, that he has just only one eye. Literally a second after that discovery, from that very single eye a laser-like beam shot at me.

I avoided it with ease, but the first not-really-a-warning shot was followed by more, from the lovely bunch closer to the caverns, who got alarmed thanks to what their friend did.

So I got my own certain-franchise-I-shouldn't-mention. The one in space, wink, wink.

Since they were shooting at me, I decided it was only fair if I was to shoot at them. Spoiler alert, it wasn't fair.

It can't be fair if, on one hand, you have somebody shooting at you with a water gun, and on the other you have yourself dropping bombs on that somebody. That is exactly what I did. Well, what I used weren't actually bombs, but the effect was very similar when I started throwing fireballs at them, which exploded reaping them apart and trashing the landscape.

It raised a cloud of dust and debris, which also helped me because from down below the cyclops couldn't see me at all. I, on the other hand, still had 'Eyes of the Void' and weren't afraid to use them.

This allowed me to localize the remaining few, and get rid of them, before, on foot, approaching the settlement.

Even from the distance, I could clearly see that only a little bit of the whole thing was outside. The multiple entrances had to lead to something much bigger hidden at the base of the mountain.

The noise I made, though, was enough to alarm some of the creatures, and they did come out quite quickly, but I got rid of them even quicker, by pulling my pudao out, then closing the distance with 'shadow walk'.

I slaughtered them, but also hot quite a good look. Most of them were completely bald, with a single eye on the forehead. The rest of their bodies were very much similar to the giants I'd already fought with. Their height was also comparable.

As I entered one of those caverns I found something unexpected beyond the entrance. A vast cavern, with a massive hole inside like the whole mountain, was just a shell to hide this hole reaching deep underground.

They carved pathways around it in the stone and had multiple more passages I could see from my position up above. Everything was very well illuminated by bowls filled with burning oil which were present everywhere.

I dealt with any cyclops which was around the entrance, but there were many more down below, walking like they were patrolling the perimeter. Others seemed to be working, but I knew it was fake.

The most intriguing thing about that place, though, was the fact that I couldn't see abos, nor any door which usually was right before the last chamber. Which, considering how big of an area I was able to look over from my position, I should have seen there.

"Is it possible, that there is no boss here?", I asked myself. "No. There is probably something below. I just need to look around", I answered myself.

Then I dropped down, landing heavily on the first, carved in the stone, path, leading around the wall of the chasm. This deep, there were still no signs of the cyclops, but I noticed them below, which meant I just had to get there.

If you are wondering why I didn't drop further below or fly there, that's because I wanted to check what was hiding in the passages bleeding further into the ground. Some of them I noticed not too deep below me, and that was the solemn reason for me just taking a jump.

As I soon found out, some of them were homes of the cyclops, others just pathways going into the wall of the chasm, to then emerge sometimes above, and sometimes below. Simple additional connectors to the main spiraling path around the massive hole.

Disappointing, I know. But at least I didn't waste more time feeding my curiosity. Instead, I focused on killing every monster on my way, as I ran down.

They were strong in numbers, not to mention, very annoying with the laser shot from their eyes. After a few skirmishes, I just decided to bomb them with my firebirds, whom I send a whole swarm of at the monsters.

Soon a massive chained explosion shook the mountain. A bit too strong as rocks started falling from above, which got very fast and quite bad. To this point, I started to worry if the whole mountain will collapse on my head.

Fortunately, after a moment it all stopped.

"You dumb fuck", I nagged myself, before continuing my run further below.
