Chapter 928 T.D.O.N.B: S4G, Part I - A View To See
Pissed off, not willing to admit they were right, I started flying towards the plaza. It was way further ahead, in the city already heavily trashed by the fight. I didn't really notice it before, but each of my attacks, even if it hit the target, produced a shockwave so strong, that there was no structure around able to withstand it.
On the back of my head were still the thoughts I took from that one alien, about the overlords. We had to defeat them somehow, and they were much, much stronger than anything I've encountered so far. It awfully seemed like even if I were to consume all those fruits, I would find myself in trouble fighting even one of them.
There were five, and the general supreme.
I found the tree. It was very big. Several meters tall, with a thick, but very short tree trunk, where it got connected to the pillar. There were those weird veins around it, making me think of the creepers where the seeds were hanging on the world tree.
"Could it be, that with enough effort you could create your own world tree", I asked myself.
This thought made me hesitant about consuming the fruit, but I shook it off. We were, after all, on a mission, and many lives depended on our success.
I put my hand on the wobbly surface, and then pushed it deeper inside the jelly-like substance until I reached it and started the process of consumption.
It gave me a lot of time to think about the situation.
The conclusion of my thoughts was that the next planet would be a complete bloodbath. If I were to try and clear it on my own, I was pretty much sure that S1J would be the end of the journey. I would be too gassed out to do anything, not to mention potentially dealing with the overlords.
It twisted my stomach very hard. I endured it, moments later feeling the power of the fruit entering my body. Once again I got stronger. The only question was if that would be enough.
I also started wondering about the situation on the front, where The Great One and others did their best to fend off the main forces of our enemies. I could only hope that what we were doing behind the lines would make a difference, saving billions of lives.
When I turned around, all three of my friends were already there, waiting for me.
- We should go. Time is flying, and people are dying - said Druoag.
I nodded. Despite his speaking as if nothing had happened, his body was telling the actual truth. He was furious at me.
Although I was already pretty much fine, thanks to my self-healing abilities, my clothes had many holes, and I had a lot of blood everywhere. Especially on my face. I looked terrible, to put it simply.
I raised the bubble, enveloping us all, then took off, quickly reaching the space.
Guided by the red arrow, I took us toward the ring with the portal, pushing as hard as I could so we would travel as fast as possible. There was no time to waste, after all.
The further we got, the stronger I felt about what I was doing. I couldn't shake off the idea that I'm leading my friends to their demise. Knowing how strong the guardians were already, I was able to anticipate what was to come, and the conclusion was simple. Nobuo and Will couldn't survive it. Druoag maybe.
I was like a shepherd leading his sheep to be slaughtered, and it was crushing. If it was just me, I wouldn't hesitate, but I wasn't alone.
Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Will. I don't know if he was able to sense the emotions I fought with, or if he just randomly decided to show his support in such a way, but the gesture worked.
I pushed away the dark thoughts, not really hoping for a miracle, but at least I was able to clear my mind somehow.
We blasted through the dark veil, emerging in another system. This one had two stars spread quite far away from one another. A cluster of planets was circling around them. Not all just horizontally, a few at different angles, making it quite a view. Our target was a relatively small astral body.
It was different from anything we've seen so far. There were any domes at all. It seemed like the whole thing was enveloped in the barrier indicating the reach of the tree growing there.
- Brace yourselves - I just said, then directed ut right there, trying my best to go even faster than before.
Although I said that, even at the current speed, we still needed several minutes to get to our destination. Eventually, we did get there, and my friends were all prepared. Nobuo was emitting electrical discharges jumping everywhere around. Druoag pushed his transformation to the very end, taking even more space as he grew, and Will... Will was just shining with gold, glory, and all the other pompous stuff.
Like a beacon of hope in our grim situation.
We went past the dome, and immediately got greeted by the enemy forces. Rows of powerful warriors were spread above a gargantuan city occupying half of the planet. The other half was probably hunting grounds.
From a such height, even the tallest building looked very small, not to mention the fact that we didn't really have time to waste on sightseeing.
The action started immediately, as we were to fend off a barrage of spells flying our way. I produced a barrier, to block it, while my friends focused on the attack, spreading wider.
In this way, I was able to block everything, but I immediately broke the barrier, because I needed to focus on the offense myself.
Deafening blasts filled my ears. Joining the raging sound of thunder reaping the sky apart. A clear sky, with rays of light falling down to the ground.
A breathtaking view in a way.
