Chapter 47: Impossible Things
“I can tell you a secret about Cui Chong, but I’ll only tell you if you can guarantee my safety here.”
Fang Qiu did not care about anything other than having a place to stay.
She had to put herself before Cui Chong.
Li Ran had no interest at all.
“I don’t want to know anything about him.”
Then, she grabbed Lin Nan’s arm and was about to leave.
Fang Qiu panicked and shouted, “Can I still stay here? I know that what I did was wrong. I’m really scared of Cui Chong.”
Li Ran continued walking without uttering a word.
“Li Ran, please help me! I was blinded. I didn’t mean to harm you. I’m sorry! I apologize! You can punish me however you want, but please don’t throw me to the zombies!”
Fang Qiu ran to Li Ran and grabbed her arm. Her hands were trembling so much that it made Li Ran’s body shake as well. She looked absolutely pitiful.
Li Ran sneered, “I’m not some benevolent Bodhisattva who came to save the world. I won’t forgive you just because you’ve begged. Now, let go of me.”
Fang Qiu took a deep breath and continued to hold on to Li Ran. She was panting and her eyes were wide open.
“Cui Chong is a ghost. He went through the walls. He wasn’t here at night and only returned in the morning. I saw it because I didn’t sleep. Do you believe me?”
“…”
‘Really?’
“The supplies in the warehouse are all gone. There’s only a small portion left. The soldiers on guard did not discover anything.”
What Fang Qiu said struck a nerve.
Could it be that Cui Chong also had a special ability?
So, he could go through walls?
Li Ran grabbed Fang Qiu to confirm what she had said again.
“Are you telling the truth?”
“Absolutely. I won’t lie to you. Besides, Cui Chong’s body was dirty. You should have noticed it too.”
Li Ran and Lin Nan exchanged glances.
The soldiers immediately head towards the warehouse.
It was supposed to be guarded twenty-four hours a day in shifts.
There was only one door and it was locked tightly. Only authorities from the military could access the resources.
A public announcement regarding Cui Chong’s incident was made. It was to alert the others so they would not panic.
When everyone found out what kind of person Cui Chong was, they were furious. In fact, they were happy that he got kicked out.
Until…
“Something had happened! Most of the supplies are gone. The warehouse used to be full but now it’s basically empty.”
“Nonsense. No one was allowed in there. The warehouse is also strictly guarded by soldiers so how can it be empty?”
“Let’s talk about Cui Chong. I want to know more details.”
“I really saw it. Why does nobody believe me?”
Unfortunately, no one took the rumor seriously. The person who started it lowered his head dejectedly.
He knew what he saw.
…
When Fang Lin entered the warehouse, his smile disappeared and there was a serious look on his face. He took a deep breath and looked at Lin Nan in disbelief.
“What is this? Cui Chong is a ghost that can go through walls?”
Lin Nan comforted Fang Lin by telling him not to panic. Then, he rubbed his forehead and asked, “How many people are there currently in the safety base? How much food do we have left?”
“Don’t joke around. Even before Cui Chong and his group left, there were more than 1,000 people. Our daily consumption of food is very high. The remaining stuff is not enough.”
Fang Lin pursed his lips.
‘This is ridiculous.’
He could only think of one possibility.
“I’m going to investigate. Something odd must have happened.”
Hearing that, Li Ran quickly stopped Fang Lin and said, “No need. I don’t think Fang Qiu is lying. We’re already in an apocalypse. Zombies that were unimaginable before are now right in front of you. Nothing is impossible.”
“Can going through walls even be classified the same as zombies? Zombies can be explained by science, but how do you explain going through walls?”
Fang Lin still felt that it might be a problem on his end and wanted to conduct an investigation.
