Arranged Marriage To The Princess Of The Red Scorpions

Chapter 55 - No Surprises, No Cake

Chapter 55 - No Surprises, No Cake

"No." Lena told her younger brother for this sixth time as she sat in the sunroom going over some business related paperwork that needed her attention. She didn't even have to look up from what she was doing to know that the other was pouting.

"What's wrong with holding a surprise party, I'm certain he would appreciate it." Leo tried to reason with his older sister again even though he knew that he hardly held her attention.

"Just because you weren't able to be there doesn't justify a reason to hold a surprise birthday party for him." Lena replied as she flipped over another page, setting it down, she grabbed her black pen and signed on the appropriate line. One of these days once everything as more organized, she was going to get someone she could trust to read the documents to her and sign for her. One never knows how tedious it is to sign paperwork until they have to go over at least a hundred pieces of paper in one morning.

"That's not the only reason I want to do it though. I want to do it because he's soon going to be a member of the family and what better way to great him when he comes back? Ryan I'm sure wouldn't have a problem putting some food together and a cake-" Leo continued to argue causing the princess to stop what she was doing and fix her younger brother with a hard stare.

"I highly doubt that after the last two days Sammy-boy is going to be wanting anything to do with the cake for the next year from what he's told me." Leo frowned at this.

"Did his mother make him that much cake to eat?" He asked.

"And his grandmother as well apparently. I think he also said that some of his friends who couldn't be there on his actual birthday took him out to celebrate as well and got him something sweet, a sundae or something I believe." Lena replied.

"Wow. I think you're about the only person who could handle that much sweets without getting sick." He commented, rather surprised that Samuel had to eat so many sweets in such a short period of time.

"You can see why I am saying no then to anything that you're proposing to do." The princess told her younger brother who still wasn't convinced that should be enough to equate her answering being a no.

"Then we can still do something minus the cake or maybe food at all." He suggested causing the other to sigh in annoyance.

"No cake, no surprised. Nothing of the sort. You can wish him a happy birthday if you want when he gets you and say you're sorry that you couldn't be there, but I think he'd prefer if you let him be since he'll be having to adjust back to everything again. Plus he will be busy with me anyways and father." The little queen pursed her lips when he phone began to ring. She already knew that it was going to be the tailor calling. Thanks to her father, he was already looking to set up an appointment date to get Samuel fitted for the suit that he would wearing for the engagement party.

"You really don't know how to have fun at all do you?" Leo went back to pouting again. He still didn't understand why his older sister was averse to doing something thought would be a nice surprise, especially since it was for her soon-to-be fiancé.

"This and that are two different things. No shoo unless you have something else important that you want to talk with me about. I need to take this call before I missing them and father comes back around to ask me why they called him instead of talking to me directly." Lena hissed at him before answering the phone in her typical business tone.

Leo stuck his tongue out at his sister as he got up from the chair he had been sitting in. Lena didn't break stride from her answers to the tailor on the other end of the phone, but she did fix her younger brother a cold glare in response to his childish behavior.

Realizing that it was unlikely that the conversation was going to go much further no matter how much he bugged his sister about it, he decided to leave the sun room as there was work of his own that he needed to focus on. Later he would come back and bug her again. He kind of wanted to know what was up because he noticed that she seemed a little bit different since she came back the other day from visiting Samuel's family for this birthday.

The princess had of course denied that anything was wrong because she didn't believe that she was behaving any different from usual or that if she was, it was because now that the engagement was becoming official, she had a lot of work to do. Because Leo was the only who pointed it out to her, she also didn't give it much heed since he always seemed to think that there was something or other going on with her when her behavior was ever so slightly different from normal.

Thus, Lena blew it off as her brother being his typical hyper analytical self. She believed that if there was actually anything serious going on or if she was behaving too out of the ordinary, her father would've already come and talked with her about it to find out what was wrong.

Once the call was over and she had given the tailor a couple of dates that would work having already cleared it with Samuel ahead of time knowing that they would both have to be present for the appointment, she proceeded to text the other that they were picking out the date and the tailor would be calling again the next day to do a final confirmation over which date would be best for them.

This was just one of the many things that she still had to make sure was together though. It would still be a while before they held the engagement party, but having all the pieces done way ahead of time would make it easier when the actual time came.

For the immediate future though, her focus was on getting through the rest of the paperwork in front of her and making sure her brother hadn't gotten the idea in his head to throw some type of party for Samuel anyways even though she had already told him it wouldn't be a good idea. She didn't think that an almost two year age difference would really impact the difference in their level of maturity so much, but in the case of her and her brother- it seemed as though it had made quite a difference.
