Chapter 6 The Strongest Gods
Chapter 6 The Strongest Gods
?After meticulously surveying the surroundings and thoroughly investigating if something fishy was going around, I was finally convinced that it was safe to leave the city. The cities at the border were all surrounded by ginormous walls and a barrier that covered the whole of Athanasia. Stepping outside the barrier, I casually looked at my surroundings and took a deep breath of the air outside.
.
.
My heart was thumping loudly and, it'd be a lie if I said that I wasn't excited at all. The reason? Well, remember how I said there were 183 Major Gods out there? There were 90 in the [Sacred] faction, and the other 90 were in the [Demonic] faction. Then what about the other 3? The other 3 were actually neutral gods. Normally, they'd have been pressured and forced to join or pick a single side in this war as even a difference of a single god could turn the tides. Letting a neutral element remain alive in a war where a difference of 1 could possibly cause the annihilation of the opposing side, why did nobody pick trouble with these 3? How come they were still neutral? This was due to the fact that they were the strongest and oldest ones. One of them was called by the other gods as the [Sovereign of Light and Darkness]. The god that controlled two of the strongest elements, Light and Darkness, boasting an extreme prowess second only to one.
This was the god that had given his powers to the protagonist of the novel I wrote, Alex. Allowing Alex to possess two elements, and dual wield them, this was a broken cheat through and through. Ranks were something that also directly translated to combat prowess. A [F+] rank could beat a [F] rank in a fight and a [B-] rank could easily defeat someone at the [C+] rank. This was one absolute rule that wasn't so absolute for the main cast after all..
Mainly with the help of the [Sovereign of Light and Darkness]'s blessing coupled with some items and other skills, Alex could even fight someone two subranks higher than him and even defeat that person. Even the main cast all possessed secret skills, arts, and items that let them defeat someone a single subrank higher than them. This was the reason that they were all known as geniuses, and the reason Alex himself was called a monster.
Not only did the blessing grant him the ability to dual wield two of the strongest elements, it also increased his base body strength a subrank higher than his current subrank. This meant that at the [D-] rank, Alex would have the Strength, Vitality, and Agility of a [D] rank. Although it might not really seem like a big deal in the earlier ranks but once you got to higher ranks such as [S] rank, a single subrank would be significantly stronger even about 30% possibly than the previous.
If this wasn't enough, Alex was even able to defeat a person of a higher rank, when at the peak of his own rank. A difference between subranks could still be overcome by utilizing several methods but, every major rank brought about its own qualitative change. Even the main cast couldn't defeat someone say, at the [C-] rank while they were at the [D+] ranks. Yet Alex could do that.
As for why this information is so important, it is because it is related to the matter of this "cheat" we're going to go obtain soon. Try remembering the fact that I said there were 3 of those neutral gods out there and the [Sovereign of Light And Darkness] was second only to one. The other two neutral gods were even more ancient and could be considered to be a fundamentally different existence in themselves from the rest of the gods. Those two were the [God of Destruction] and the [Goddess of Creation]. The Goddess of Creation, in terms of strength, was said to be almost on equal terms to the [Sovereign of Light and Darkness]. Now mark my words, when I said those two gods were fundamentally different from the rest, it was because they have powers over the two supreme concepts. Everything in the world can be said to fall under the concept of [Creation] other than [Destruction] obviously which is the opposite.
As long as something "exists" it means that "it" was created. While the Goddess may not be as strong as the Sovereign, her real talents lay in Creation itself. Imagine you're trying to fight a fellow, and that person suddenly spawns two worlds, ten times the size of the sun, on both of your sides, one millimeter away from you. Guess what happens next? You get absolutely crushed.
That's right, she had the power to create new worlds, new species, the power to create life itself. While this is true, it didn't mean the fact that she created the universe itself. She gained those powers herself.
Now onto the [God of Destruction]. While Destruction does sound like something evil, it actually just referred to the affinity and the concept itself. The [God of Destruction] was publicly recognized as the strongest god, one who couldn't be beaten even if all of those 180 gods teamed up on him together. The [God of Destruction] had the power to destroy anything in existence. You throw a world at him, he obliterates it. You try to attack him, he obliterates you. He made a mistake and said something weird? No problem! He can just obliterate time itself from the point at which he made the mistake thus effectively going back in time. So convenient right!?
Then how come the [God of Destruction] and [Goddess of Creation] died? Were they attacked and killed? What a joke, there's nobody who could do that. In the novel, it was briefly mentioned that they just killed themselves. Why, you ask me? How could I know that, it's not like I'm the author after all-
".."
".."
"Oh I am the author aren't I-"
"Guess I made a small mistake in the plot, oops."
'Well, it's not like the reason why they killed themselves even matters', I ruminated inwardly, while giving excuses for the plot holes I put in.
Now how are all these gods and stuff related to me, you ask? Well, the place I'm going to right now is something akin to a portal that will lead me to the place where the [God of Destruction] died. The place where he left his own legacy - his deathbed.
