Chapter 16: Congratulatory gift!
A few moments later, instructor Nina Olsen, Theo Rose, Lisa, and a few other examinees calmed down and suppressed their shock as they came up to him.
“Congratulations for awakening an ability, Elliot,” Theo said to him with a smile.
“Thank you, Theo,” Elliot said, feeling happiness at experiencing what it means to be the center of the stage.
Instructor Nina Olsen also congratulated him for becoming an awakened magician at the young age of sixteen before taking off the black bracelet on her wrist and handing it over to him. “I don’t have anything precious to gift you but take this bracelet as the congratulatory gift. It has a subspace within it that will allow you to store stuff.”
It was a tradition for two close magicians to hand a congratulatory gift to one other once one of them awaken an ability.
Instructor Nina happened to be his childhood friend, so it wasn’t wrong for her to give him a congratulatory gift for awakening.
Of course, this shocked many examinees and even the sneaky Headmaster of the Magician Academy as they didn’t know the actual relationship between them.
They concluded that Nina is enamored with Elliot and is trying to win over his heart with powerful and supernatural treasures.
“Thank you for the congratulatory gift, Nina. It’s more than enough for me.” Elliot said with a smile, accepting the spatial storage device from her slender, soft hands with enticing long fingers.
He found it hard to believe that the childhood friend that used to stick close to him all the time still remembered how close their relationship was and decided to gift him such a precious thing.
Still, he was very happy that a beautiful lady like Nina has given him a congratulatory gift.
While the examines that haven’t had any beef with the weakest magician in the past were congratulating him and the ones like Cain and Rodriguez were cursing him under their breath, a middle-aged man dressed in a robe and wearing an emerald mask walked out from behind one of the many pillars in the classroom and walked up to them.
“Hey there, young boy. I’m an agent who came here under the order of the headmaster to find out the cause of the energy fluctuation that erupted in this examination center. Do you know what happened here?”
“Um, I seem to have awakened an ability,” Elliot replied, blinking his eyes at the masked man.
“Oh, that’s great. The more awakened magicians in this world, the better. Can you tell me what kind of ability you’ve awakened?” Gerald, hiding behind the man, came straight to the point.
He was dying to know about the ability of this young boy who had produced an energy fluctuation great enough to startle him and many others with great energy-sensing abilities during awakening.
Elliot recalled the description of his ability. And remembering how terrifying it may sound to other magicians, he decided to tell only a part of its capabilities to him.
After all, he didn’t want to attract a lot of attention and unwanted trouble towards himself.
“My ability allows me to manifest weapons and shield according to my thoughts.”
“Oh, can you show it to me?”
“Okay,” Elliot nodded.
Following the method to use his ability which he read just a few minutes ago, Elliot’s eyes glistened in an abstract light as an image popped up in his mind.
In the split of a second, five out of fifty units of essences of life stored in his body got used, leaving him with only forty-five units as three glowing swords and two round shields manifested around him.
Elliot felt that he could control them with a thought, increasing their speed and controlling the trajectory of their flight.
However, that will need an extra amount of essence of life.
The use of his ability left a good amount of people in the examination room speechless but a few blurted their thoughts for everyone to hear.
“He just awakened and can already manifest multiple weapons and shield. What a powerful ability.”
“Wow! His ability is so awesome.”
Elliot recalled back his swords and shields with just a thought, causing them to dissolve back into their primal forms, a burst of milky white and golden energies.
The weapons were made out of the essence of life. And he could dissolve them back into it by just thinking about it.
<You’ve gained five essence of life>
The notification of his artifact sounded in his mind after he manipulated the essence of life and reabsorbed them into his body.
Gerald looked at him impassively, internally feeling quite happy as it wasn’t a rare occurrence to come across an extraordinary ability holder.
“Your supernatural ability is quite powerful. It’s almost like an extraordinary ability. However, I am not sure as this is the first time I have come across it. For now, we’ll classify you as a manifestation type awakened. You can always change the type and name of your ability by a simple procedure. Is that alright with you?”
“Am fine with that,” Elliot replied, showing willingness to follow along with his decision.
“That’s good.” Gerald said before turning towards the lady standing next to him, “Instructor Nina, I will have to trouble you to register this information into the Academy’s database.”
“I was about to do just that.” Instructor Nina said, walking back to the desk and tapping away at the virtual keyboard, registering Elliot as an awakened.
A few moments later, Gerald turned around and left the examination center, heading towards the peak of the mountain with incredible speed.
“Your luck is quite good,” Theo said to him.
Elliot laughed, nodding his head, knowing full well that he was an original awakened magician—a person who awakens a unique ability that no one else possesses.
A few moments later, once instructor Nina finished registering the necessary information of every examinee in the database of the magician academy, she stood before the teenagers and said, “The last assessment will be held in a different location. So, follow me. I will lead you guys to that place.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Immediately after, she turned around, walking out of the examination room, stepping onto the circular pathway with stone archways and stairs on one side and walls and entrances to rooms on the other.
The examinees followed after her like a group of ducklings chasing their mother. Elliot and Theo followed in toe.
Lisa was just behind them, looking at Elliot’s back with a deep pondering gaze.
John was at the very end of the group of students, wishing that this would end soon so that he would be able to head back to his assigned quarters and rest.
A few minutes later, instructor Nina and the examinees arrived at the second examination room.
The last assessment of the entrance examination was about to begin!
