Chapter 204: The Evil Genius—Elliot!
Although they knew that acting to destroy the evidence would expose that they were serpentine devils and get them killed, or even worse, tortured, they didn’t care. They didn’t give a damn about their lives. The only that mattered to them was disposing of the evidence and keeping the identity of the rest of the spies and undercover members of their organization safe. They couldn’t take any risks or wait to verify the truth of the matter!
They had no choice but to act no matter how surreal and fake Arthur’s words sounded!
Though, they realized that their sacrifice was stupid and dumb right after the dust cleared up.
The person who they tried to kill and the evidence in his hand that they tried to destroy were still intact! An invisible shield of some sort surrounded them, protecting them from harm. The onlookers realized that it was a barrier, a magic technique only useable and learnable by the loyal dogs of the Elder Magicians.
The twelve spies of the serpentine devils didn’t know when but twenty-four people dressed in magician robes had appeared around them. Each of them was an inquisitor—a loyal dog of the four Elder Magicians of the Association who are especially trained and nurtured to become the best of the best and deal with all problematic activities.
The inquisitor immediately took them down. Although all the spies were extremely powerful, they weren’t able to even put up a show of resistance as energy-draining chains and superpower sealing cuffs wrapped around their flesh and wrists, effectively rendering them useless.
“Take them away to be interrogated!”
The faces of the magicians were especially black when they said that, especially Young Master Richard Regis and Lady Charlotte, not only because spies were hiding beneath their noses but also because what they tried to deny was proven true by the appearance of the spies.
Now, even if the recording device contained bullshit, one couldn’t deny that something bad was happening inside the settlement, that Elliot was salvaging the situation by himself, that he was going to win the best, that they were going to lose dozens of artifacts!
The worlds of the ones who had put their bet on Oliver started crumbling, and their faces scrunched up as if they were having a hard time dealing with constipation.
The leader of the inquisitor ordered half of his men to take away the spies.
Jake Turner, the leader of the fourth inquisitor squad, turned towards Arthur, who had broken down because of the attempt on his life and was barely able to keep calm.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes,” Arthur said as he wiped away the light sheen of perspiration off his forehead, appearing fine and upright.
“That’s Good! Since you’re mentally sound and physically fine, I believe you will be able to answer some of my questions.” Jake Turner patted Arthur on the shoulder.
He was nervous because of everything that had happened and also because this was his first time meeting an inquisitor. However, he was a magic knight and managed to remain calm enough to not break down and mumble stuff.
The others didn’t stop it. None of them had enough authority to go against an inquisitor. To explain it in general terms, Elders Magicians were the chairman of the magician associations that set rules and regulations, and the inquisitors were directors working and representing them. Stopping them from dealing with their matters was the same as face slapping the association. Moreover, doing anything right now might label them as an associate of the terrorist. Richard Regis was ignorant but not stupid. He knew when to trouble others and when to keep his mouth shut. So, even he didn’t say a word.
“What do you want to ask?” Arthur said formally with a hint of respect in his voice.
“Just treat me like a friend and tell me how true your words were. Does this thing really contain the information about the terrorists who snuck into the magician community?”
Jack Turner’s eyes turned sharp. Arthur felt as if he would get stabbed by a thousand words if he didn’t answer his honestly.
What? Treat him like a friend?!
He was afraid that if he spoke without respect in his action and words, then he would die without a corpse!
Plop! Suddenly, Arthur Charlotte dropped to his knees. “Please forgive me.”
His actions were abrupt, and all eyes turned towards him.
“Most of what I had said was a lie. This recording device only contains the footage of us fighting against the serpentine devils and destroying the bases that they had set up to stop us from traveling from one place to another and hunt us down.”
“Please don’t be nervous.” Jack Turner helped him stand back to his feet and then asked, “Why did you lie?”
“I-its because Elliot told me to do so.”
Yes, Elliot, that bastard, gave him a script to memorize, handed over a recording device to him, and then had him tear apart the Return Scroll, causing him to Return to planet Xavier! Elliot didn’t tell him that he would be attacked by fucking assassins the moment he read out the script.
Elliot wanted to weed out the bad guys, no matter how small their numbers, and he wasn’t clear with Arthur because he didn’t know whether he would have enough guts to lie to so many people and fool the masses!
The onlookers could tell that Elliot orchestrated everything.
He was fighting his war somewhere else but still had the time to help them sort out twelve spies that had snuck into their ranks!
At this point, he could only be called a fucking genius!
Instructor Leonardo’s eyes lit up and Jack Turner’s lips curled into a smile which was covered by a black mask of an orc.
“Then, play the recording.” Jack turner said.
Arthur Charlotte obediently pressed the power-up button and tapped a few more buttons, causing a holographic screen to open up.
The one-sided war of Elliot against the serpentine devils began to play on the big screen, causing eyes too wide, jaws to almost drop to touch the ground, mouths to gape wide enough to have eight carrots stuck inside of them, and faces to turn as red as a baboon’s butt.
