Chapter 45: Might of the Spears
Just as the spears were about to reach Thomas, the guy on his left and the woman on his right jumped in between the trajectory of the spears, providing a fleshy cover to their leader.
“Ugh!”
A painful moan sounded out of their mouths as the sharp spear’s end pierced into their flesh before it went in even deeper and branched out of their bodies, drilling a visibly large hole straight through the center of their chests.
Thomas was taken by surprise as he watched how they selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to protect him. Jalisco, the man in the seventh level of the magical realm, was a poor butcher he befriended. Jalisco agreed to go rogue and work under him as he wanted to become rich. Janine, on the other hand, was his wife and also a beautiful woman raped by the scums of the magician’s family.
The association didn’t do much against her assailants as they belonged to famous magicians’ families. So, Thomas decided to have revenge his way by going rogue, a term given to those who hunt other magicians. When Thomas told Janine that he was going to go rogue and start hunting down magicians to avenge her, she had agreed to join Thomas without any hesitation in her eyes.
They killed a lot of magicians and also earned a fair amount of money by doing so, and their group made up of rogue magicians has also grown considerably over the past few months.
Everything was going well till now!
Thomas’s eyes opened wide as he saw the spears reaping the life of his beloved woman and his best friend right in front of his eyes.
He was devastated that he couldn’t do anything to help them, but he couldn’t help it as everything happened in the split of a second!
The most devastating thing was that it did so without coming to a halt!
The sacrifices of the two people who meant the world to him were in vain!
Whoosh
Whoosh
The spears charged towards him, still having an overwhelming aura surrounding them, almost as if they will only come to a halt after bursting him apart.
“Magic Matrix: Sapphire Buckler.” Thomas activated his magic matrix, feeling a huge amount of magic energy drain from him. At the same time, a round blue shield manifested, strapped around his right hand, which he raised to dodge the golden spear and the wooden spears.
Clank!
The spears collided with the shield of a blue color. A small shockwave rang out at the impact and speed of the attacks. Thomas’s muscles bulged, and veins popped on his head as he felt like a boulder has crashed on his shield. His feet pressed on the grounds, but he still got pushed back by several meters in the time it takes for a person to blink their eyes as sparks flew out from the clash between the spears and the shield, intense clanking sound sounding in the area.
“Goddamn it!”
Thomas knew full well his shield wouldn’t hold its ground for another second, so he jumped to the right to get out of harm’s way.
However, his shield shattered in the very moment, and Elliot’s spear still took away his arm with it, nailing it into the bark of a tree.
“Ahh!” Thomas roared out in pain. His face pale as he pressed on his severe wound, blood spurting out from it, splattering on the ground below, dyeing it crimson.
Then, abruptly, Elliot and Theo leaped out from behind the cover of greenery, dropping towards the head of the rogue magicians nearest to them without any hesitation, signaling the descend of the harbinger of death on the battlefield!
They brandished their weapons, glistening under the twin moon’s moonlight.
They were too fast, stealthy, and strong.
The rogue magicians couldn’t even react before their weapons chopped their heads off their bodies, crimson blood painting the ground red.
<You’ve slain two more humans in the third and the fifth level of magical realm>
<You’ve gained the right to extract the essence of life out of their bodies>
These two notifications sounded in Elliot’s ears as he and Theo rushed towards the rest of the rogue magicians.
