Chapter 90: A bit about Them and Elves
Shawn was taken off the stage by a few members of the medical faculty. Theo went down the stage and regrouped with his friends. Lisa and John congratulated him with a smile, showing that they are happy that he won against one of the strongest magicians in the channel opening stage. Elliot, on the other hand, looked at him with eyes that were trying to convey something.
Theo didn’t understand the meaning behind his gaze, so he asked, “Is there something on my face?”
Elliot’s eyes closed as he shook his head, signifying that there is nothing wrong with his face, and then he sighed, almost as if something heavy was weighing on his mind.
Lisa and John felt weirded out by his behavior, while Theo felt that he might be the reason behind his sigh, and thus, he said, “If you want to tell me something, then just say it.”
Elliot moved his head to look at him in the eyes, then asked in a calm voice tinged with sadness, “Did you have to go that far?”
“I had to do that, not only because it will deter the others from bothering us, forcing them to think a hundred times before targeting us, but also because I wanted to assert our dominance and show them all that messing with us comes with a heavy price. If you think I was too brutal, then I’m sorry. But I won’t be changing my ways of doing things.” Theo replied in a clear voice while looking straight into his eyes with an agent expression on his face, signifying that he won’t change his decision, no matter what.
Theo was so cruel because he knew that the kings and queens of the academy had set their eyes on them weeks ago, announcing them as targets in their group chats, ordering the entire second-year body to trouble, beat or even kill them every chance they get if they want to be rewarded with items such as magic coins and form beneficial relations that will help them not only in the academy but also after they graduate from it.
Of course, Shawn was one of the many that had decided to satisfy the kings and Queens, but instead of killing Theo, he got thrashed.
“You misunderstood me.” Elliot bitterly smiled. As he didn’t want Lisa and John to hear what he was about to say, he whispered the following words in Theo’s ears, “I don’t care what you do to others. I wouldn’t have said as much as a single word even if you had killed him. I just didn’t like the way you dealt with him. You could have easily defeated or killed him if you didn’t give him a chance to recover from injuries as well as restore his magic energy. But you didn’t. Instead, you sacrificed a portion of your life to defeat him. I just hope you won’t treat your life as a tool. It’s only been a short time since we became friends. I don’t want to lose you so soon.”
Theo’s eyes were special as they had the ability to take something away from someone and give something to someone. Of course, he could use his eyes to hypnotize people, seal the superpowers of magicians, control a person’s mind, reduce someone to nothing, but it all came with an equivalent cost, one that he needed to provide by himself. The cost could be hundreds to thousands of units of electricity, magic energy, and so on, but sometimes it’s his life. For example, this time to control Shawn’s mind, Theo ridiculously paid three years of his life. That’s why Elliot was sad.
That’s why Elliot was sad. A magician can live a long life, but their lifespan isn’t endless. Magicians in the magical realm can live up to 100 to 200 hundreds while the ones in the channel opening stage can live up to 200 to 500 years, and it goes on and on until 999 years. However, by the way Theo was using it, first to selectively erase Alexander’s memories and then to mind control Shawn which caused him to lose more than three years of his lifespan, it wouldn’t be long before he runs dry of his lifespan.
Theo’s eyes widened as he heard his words, unable to believe that Elliot knew the truth about his eyes, something only his people should know about, and he couldn’t help but ask in a somewhat shocked but low voice, “How do you know? Did one of us tell you about it? If so, where did you meet them?”
As the eyes of equivalent exchange were evolution materials created by the essence of life of an entire planet, the thoughts that someone can appraise it never crossed Theo’s mind. So, he didn’t suspect that Elliot used his godly eye to find out about his special eyes.
Elliot didn’t know what to say, as he didn’t find the truth about his eyes from the elves, but by using his godly eye. Even then, he only knew that the eyes belonged to the world tree of the planet Lorena, a place he had never about in his entire life. He determined from this that the elves left that planet and came to this world for some reason, but he didn’t know anything what the reason why they left their planet.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Did they bind you to a contract that forces you to not reveal their existence to anyone else?” Theo asked in a low voice, so only he hears it.
Elliot didn’t know why the imagination of his half-elven friend runs so wild, but he didn’t have a reason to refuse his words as they will be a great help to him right now, so he nodded, acting as if it’s as he said.
It was all because of a reason.
He didn’t want to explicitly reveal that his godly eye can see how they feel about him as well as everything about their body, from their magic matrix and superpower to even their race, as he fears that they will take him for a creep and turn away from him.
