Awakened: The Spirit King!

Chapter 51: Killing in the woodlands

Chapter 51: Killing in the woodlands

It was drinking water from a pond, so it didn't notice Xie Yang, who was standing close to a tree that was more than a dozen meters away from it.

Xie Yang's eyes were brimming with the intent to battle it. He intended to fight it all alone. An ordinary cultivator below level 11 might not be able to win a fight against it; however, he was confident that he would win against it.

He believed that his offensive spiritual techniques and the amount of control he had over his spiritual energy were extremely excellent, enough to let him solo it without much trouble.

'It is still engrossed in drinking water and is not aware of my presence,' Xie Yang's eyes narrowed, murderous glints flashing in them, 'This is the best chance for me to sneak an attack on it. If I successfully land a powerful hit on it, I will gain the upper hand against it in this fight. I am already level 6, and I have more than 600 units of spiritual energy in my elixir field.

I meet the requirements to use that offensive spiritual technique. I might just kill it with this one attack.'

[Spiritual Energy Blast!]

Xie Yang raised his hand and pointed his palm towards the beast. The next moment, his muscles tensed him, so did his expression as he used all his concentration to control his spiritual energy.

A large amount of spiritual energy came out of his elixir field, traveled all the way up to his right hand, and flooded out of the palm of the same hand in the form of many blue wisps that gathered before him, mixing and condensing into the form of a big, blue ball that was releasing immense pressure.

He had used almost half of his total spiritual energy, around 300 units of it, to make it, and he only used two seconds to do it!

If any other cultivator around his level had seen him to such a thing, they would have immediately rejected the possibility of Xie Yang being only a level 6 cultivator at the age of eighteen.

It was impossible for a level 6 cultivator to have such good control over his spiritual energy at such a young age because the main factor that determined a person's control over it was one's experience of using it to cast spiritual technique.

Without at least twenty years of such experience, a cultivator couldn't possibly condense 300 units of spiritual energy into a single ball in two seconds!

Xie Yang was able to perform this feat without much trouble because he had the experience of his past life.

Whoosh!

The blue energy ball blasted through the air and moved towards the berserk beast with such speed that the latter wasn't able to even sense it before it crashed on the side of its body and exploded.

The impact of it crashing on its body did cause a serve wound to appear on the side of its belly, and the impact of it exploding raised dust in the air, blasted away some trees, and also lifted its entire body off the ground, and hurled it away.

Bam!

Its massive body came to a halt after crashing on a thick tree that was barren of leaves and any sign of life. It slumped down to the ground weakly. The old tree wasn't able to bear the of having a big beast crashing on it, and so it shattered and fell to the ground with a dull thud.

"This is incredible. I knew this low-level technique was great, but I never thought it would be effective, even on a beast above level 10. No wonder why it was one of the top ten low-level techniques ten thousand years ago." Xie Yang thought after seeing the damage caused by the energy blast.

"Is it dead?" He wondered as he set his scrutinizing gaze on the bear that was bleeding from its stomach area.

It raised its head and stared at Xie Yang with fierce red eyes before releasing a roar.

"It looks like I failed to one-shot it. Shit!"

"Growl!"

The bear roared as it got on all four and charged towards Xie Yang without a care in the world. Xie Yang moved his hand behind him. It was the very hand in which he wore the inter-spatial ring that Leader Ye had gifted him, and in this very thing, he had stored the three talismans he had purchased from the spiritual market back in the cloud city.

A talisman paper with brownish magic runes on it appeared in between his palm. He opened his hand, letting it fall a step behind him.

By the time the talisman paper hit the ground, the bear had reached six meters away from him. It pounced towards him with a wide-opened mouth that revealed sharp teeth that it wanted to sink into Xie Yang's flesh.

'Now is the time to move!'

Xie Yang rolled to the side as it landed on the spot where he stood a moment ago.

"Activate!"

Right after he said that word, the talisman paper released a brown shine, which took the beast by surprise.

It felt that something was wrong and that it would be hurt if it remained close to the talisman paper, but before it could step away, the ground beneath it split open and swallowed it.

Its body smashed through several sharp spikes made of earth and mud before landing on the depth of the pit with a dull thud.

Xie Yang went up to the spit and looked down.

He saw many stone shards embedded into its flesh and also noticed that it was bleeding from many places, but they were all flesh wounds, and only one of them exposed its bones.

However, its vitality was great as it had eaten several cultivators.

As a result of its extraordinary vitality and self-healing ability, all of its wounds were healing slowly but steadily.

After it noticed Xie Yang, it tried to stand up but fell down on its butt again.

It hasn't recovered enough, but soon it will have enough strength to jump out of the pit!

"Huh? It's still not dead yet. The defense of this beast must be extremely high. Normally, a level 16 beast should die from this trap. It must be higher than that. Maybe it's near level 20!

Well, whatever! I should not let it recover. If it recovers, I might not necessarily beat it. I should kill it when it's down."

Xie Yang took out the other two talismans from his inter-spatial ring too. One of them had crimson magic runes on it and the other emerald. He threw both of them at the bear simultaneously. The crimson one activated first and manifested a wave of flame. The emerald one created a powerful breeze that crashed on the back of the fire wave, causing the latter size to increase and become double!

No, it increased the size of the fire wave by three times!

The bright and powerful fire wave enveloped the bear, and although its defense was greater than its peers and was also the thing it was most proud of, its defense didn't hold a candle against the powerful fire.

It died a couple of seconds in, and the fire wave roasted it thoroughly.

Xie Yang didn't hear any growls of pain coming from the pit and determined his target was as good as dead.

"What am I thinking? It could not possibly survive my synergized use of the fire wave and air breeze talismans."

When a person uses two or more talismans or spiritual attack or defense in such a way that they cooperate with one or more other agents to produce a joint effect greater than the sum of effects that they can achieve separately, then one can say they have executed a synergized attack.

Xie Yang had used this very attack to land the finishing blow on the berserk bear that wouldn't have died if he had used his spiritual technique.

He waved his hand, and the fire surged out of the pit, dissipating into thin air.

The bear was wholly black and didn't have life in its eyes.

Xie Yang was over cautious and worried it was acting dead, so he hit it with his offensive spiritual technique, northern lights. All the sharp sword rays landed on its neck and separated its head from the rest of its body.
