The white robed mage walked over while Gurney tried to regulate his breathing. He laid on one side of his head and kept his ear close to the ground and listened to the mage’s footsteps. His eyesight could not make out the symbol that was on the white robed mage, he was not sure of what level mage he was. If he was not a grade-1 mage, he could kill him instantly.
Saleen taught Gurney a couple of times, so Gurney knew that the fastest released magic would be a Wind Blade spell. It could possibly split metal instantly too. He changed his magic armor and the white robed mage that walked over could kill him a dozen times in a second.
The two pirates next to Gurney lowered their heads, showing their respect towards the mage. In actual fact, they were afraid that their enemy would catch them.
The white robed mage was satisfied with the two pirates’ action. The two pirates retreated while the white robed mage came before Gurney. Gurney could feel his heart pumping.
It was too exciting to kill a mage. The white robed mage could feel the body changes of the military officer on the ground. He was an expert in anatomy of the human body and he knew that the officer had a lung injury and that was a normal response.
To save mental power, the white robed mage stood one meter before Gurney’s body and released restorative water.
Unless he was prepared to release two spells beforehand, when a mage finish releasing the first magic, there would be a pause before the second spell. The time period was very short. For magic that could be released instantly, it would be less than a second.
What Saleen said rang in Gurney’s mind. He knew that he only had less than a second’s opportunity.
Gurney was not there to risk his life. To risk his life at such close distance, he would rather take two magic spells and hurt the mage. Then, his allies behind him could kill the mage. Gurney calculated precisely, before the restorative water slipped into his body. He sat up straight and head butted the lower body of the white robed mage.
A man’s vital part being harmed, the white robe mage groaned in pain. It sounded just like a high level magic Demon’s Roar.
A mage needed a stable elemental environment and stable mental state to cast magic. The mage’s lifeblood was nearly broken by Gurney and his mental state would not be stable. He dared not cast any attack magic, otherwise, it was very likely that the magic would explode in his hands.
The white robed mage released an invisible shield immediately. He was terrified and dared not attack Gurney, so he retreated. If a mage did not cast the Windspeed spell, how could he be faster than a swordsman.
Gurney attacked all of a sudden and by then, there were more than twenty Barbarians that entered Fort Strand. They dashed towards the main entrance directly.
Fort Strand was not a militarized fortress, so there was no magic set up at the door. The Barbarians ran to the door and took out a paper bag that was covered in oil from their pouch. They spat and pasted it onto the door. They then took out a magic match and set the paper bag on fire.
At that season, Phoenix was so cold that the earth was frozen. Their saliva almost instantly turned into ice and froze on the door.
There was magic powder wrapped in the paper bag, used for alchemy purposes. The burning temperature was extremely high and adhesive. Unless it was put out by magic, it would never be extinguish even with water.
The six meter high wooden door was suddenly on fire. The place where the fire began burning had a big hole that was almost a person’s height very quickly.
If Fort Strand had a strategic post, the city door would have broken dragon stone. With that, the city gate would be blocked by a huge rock. The city gate of Fort Strand was wrapped with metal and wood on the inside.
The wood was processed and it could not be burnt, but magic powder had dissolving power, even metal could not resist. Of course, magic powder at such level was too expensive and most mages would rather use magic a nucleus to prompt the magic array than to use such magic powder to replace alchemy.
There was a big hole at the city door and the defending soldiers could not be so stupid not know what was going on. The low level officer immediately commanded the soldiers to pounce on their enemy.
The Barbarians carried iron shields behind them and the defence soldiers flaw was that they did not notice. Why would a soldier that was escaping carry such a heavy item?
Without suitable weapons, the Barbarians might as well have swung the iron shield with one hand and held the short sword with another while they guarded the city gate. Very quickly, there were more than a hundred of Barbarians that rushed in through the small gate and formed a shield formation.
The iron shields of the Qin Empire were highly sophisticated and there were battle axe warriors among the defence soldiers. A battle axe of more than twenty pounds could ignite vigorous sparks and leave a mark on the iron shields but could not break them. As for crossbows, they could not damage the iron shields at all.
The strength of a Barbarian was too strong, they were holding their iron shield and they could even withstand the calvary rushing against them. Of course, if there was a grand mage that threw magic over, all of them would vanish. That was, unless all of them were wearing the magic armor that Saleen made. Even when they wore the magic armor, it did not mean that the magic attack was ineffective, it would most likely reduce the damage.
Fort Strand mages were mostly gathered at West Gate as the camp at the west was busy preparing for an attack and everyone was nervous. At the East Gate, there was only a grade-3 mage looking after it.
If the grade-3 mage were to release magic from afar and support the soldiers with auxiliary spells such as a Potence spell, the Barbarian’s defense would definitely be broken quickly. The white robed mage was in trouble, however.
Gurney knocked onto his lifeblood and the white robed mage only managed to release an Invisible Shield. It was one of the spells he had learnt during his earliest stage. He could even release it when he was near to unconscious. All he wanted was to withstand the enemy for a while while he was allaying his pain. A few more seconds and he would dare to release offensive magic again.
The invisible shield was just a low level defence magic, but to a swordsman, it was indestructible. The white robed mage got it right and he could tell that Gurney was not that strong.
Gurney’s boss was strong, though. Saleen gave him a spike that was made of the horn of the diago dragon.
The diago dragon had many horns, as luxuriant as grass. Compared to other dragons, its horns were not as valuable. Diago dragons were a grade-9 dragon though, its horns had strong effects of resolving magic. If a diago dragon was alive, it could knock a sorcerer to death. Ice plate shield or any other high level mirror magic would not be able to withstand the horns of a dragon.
Gurney was not a diago dragon, the level of the white robed mage and sorcerer were even farther apart. The attack broke the white robed mage’s invisible shield like a bubble.
Poof…
The white robed mage spat out a mouthful of blood. He was preparing for a fireball, but the element went chaotic and it dispersed before it took form. That almost wrecked his mental power. Gurney’s dragon spike had the power of the water element. When he drew out from the sheath, it could not hide its aura.
The white robed mage opened both of his eyes wide as he could not understand why a scrawny soldier that he did not consider powerful would have such powerful weapon on hand.
Gurney did not know that the white robed mage would not be able to release any magic for at least three days time. Due to life measure, the white robed mage had to at least rest for half a month to recover from mental damage. Elemental chaos was not any joke.
Gurney got into the mage’s reach and he himself was scared to death. Although the mage prefered to fight from afar, almost every close magic could killed instantly. He stuffed the spike into the mage’s stomach and the mage spat blood while the wound on his stomach solidified instantly. Gurney thought he did not hurt him and he suddenly went crazy.
He raised his head and knocked the mage’s chin. Gurney’s body was small and the mage was taller than Saleen. He knocked the mage at the right moment. Gurney’s head was extremely painful. He had no chance to revolve into sword aura and used his skull as a hammer.
Skull was much tougher than chin though, so the unlucky one was the white robed mage. The mage’s chin shattered and he could not even recite a chant. Under a situation where the elements were chaotic, he could still chant slowly and release magic.
There was no blade on both sides of the dragon spike, the penetration force was extremely strong. If it were a dagger, he only needed to pull it upwards to tear open the white robed mage’s chest. The dagger had to be made of dragon teeth. A diago dragon was different compared to other dragons. Its dragon teeth were more precious than its dragon horns and there were less of them. Saleen only gave the dragon tooth to Nailisi because of that.
Gurney had other weapons. There was a cluster of fine silver needles that were shot out from his sleeves and these were only used by mercenaries where the shooting distance was extremely short. Those were given to Gurney by Nailisi. Gurney was smart to ingratiate himself with Nailisi. She would give him things that she did not use.
The fine silver needles were polished from dragon bones, a Frozen spell was added during the process. The diago was a water element giant dragon and after the fine needles went through the white robed mages’ body, half of the mage’s body was frozen into ice.
Gurney was worried that he did not die, so he pull out the dragon spike and stabbed into the white robed mage’s eyes. The spike poked through his brain and even God would not be able to save him.
The way Gurney fought was entirely how a gangster would fight. An elegant mage that was killed by a gangster. There was no other reason that that supporting the gangster, there was a rich bastard.
The white robed mage did not understand even as he died. Why did the nonentity appear before him and seem to be specifically directed at him?
Even though the city gate fell, the soldiers from afar were shocked by Gurney’s fighting power. Within ten seconds, the white robed mage was killed, killed by an enemy’s soldier!
Gurney laughed malignantly while he retrieved the dragon horn to put back into its sheath. He took out his long swords and stabbed the mage’s chest. The two pirates rushed over and stayed on both of his sides. Gurney wore a pair of gloves and stuffed his hands into the mage’s chest. After searching, he finally retrieved the needles that were shot into the mage’s body.
The things were too precious. Gurney knew that if it was not for Nailisi’s broad horizon, he would not have receive such weapons. He even brought along the syringe that was used to shoot the bone needles that he would bring to bed with him. It never once left his side and it finally came in handy.
