When Delase had those thoughts, he could not possibly be thinking from the perspective of the Grukos family. Which dynasty on the mainland would adore the Holy See? Even the Tanggulasi emperor was secretly fearful of the Holy See. After so many years, the imperial family had been infiltrated by the Holy See. Even though the succeeding emperors were considered rare prodigies, they also could not shake off the Holy See’s control over the Tanggulasi Empire.
The long robes of these two adjudicators were tattered and torn. Other than the fish beasts, they still had to handle the monsters emerging from the spatial passageways. These monsters lightened the mood of these two men though. The Purgatory Desert actually had such a weird space. If this information was fed to the Holy See, it could greatly negate their mistake of losing five-hundred wardens.
Of the remaining sixteen wardens, one was a Zun Grand Swordmaster while the remaining fifteen were high grade swordmasters. At this moment, they were already very exhausted. A Divine spell could repair the physical trauma on their bodies, but it could not calm their moods. When this team of people set off on this journey, they thought that it was a simple mission. Whenever three adjudicators went out for an assignment, problems were rarely left unresolved.
Noticing that the two superiors wanted to go deeper into the Purgatory Desert, barely veiled fear was slapped across the wardens’ faces. No one dared rebel against Delase and Fanyin however. The reputation of these two men might be inferior to that of Black William, but they could kill without even blinking. Without these two adjudicators, the wardens would not be able to leave the Purgatory Desert.
Fanyin noticed the expressions of the wardens, then said, “Don’t be afraid, Lex’s team has also run into a sandstorm. Their situation will not be any better than ours. You all don’t have to worry about combat anymore, I kept you all alive so that you can testify to all the events which occurred here.”
Fanyin might appear to be consoling the wardens, but he was actually threatening them. This time around, they had overstepped their authority by bringing so many wardens along. The whole inquisition only had five-thousand wardens, with most stationed in the Glorious City and the imperial capital. The two of them had led all the deployable wardens there. If they did not yield some results, the two newly promoted head inquisitors would definitely not treat them kindly.
The wardens were flustered because they knew about the situation Fanyin and Delase were in. They were afraid that Fanyin would silence them before pushing the responsibility to someone else. Now that Fanyin had said this, they were still afraid, but at least they were slightly hopeful.
After water was distributed to the wardens, the wardens were instructed to put on their face guards. Delase never said one word, he simply identified the direction and began walking towards the depths of the desert.
The black sand in the Purgatory Desert was very heavy. Luckily, this was the case, so people would not sink in too deeply when they walked on it. That conserved quite a bit of strength. Since Delase and Fanyin had received blessings from the Lord of Glory, they were rich in divinity, so they could handle any situation. A surface with mirror-like shine grew beneath their feet. As the two people walked forward, it was as though they were sliding across ice. They traveled at a speed of about twenty miles an hour.
This was the most stamina-conserving method. Of course, they could travel even faster, their flying speeds were not lousy at all. After meeting with a sandstorm, Delase and Fanyin no longer dared fly across the Purgatory Desert.
The armor of the sixteen wardens were mosaicked with holy crystals, so its function was similar to that of a magic armor. The wardens could barely keep up with the two adjudicators. As they traveled north in a hurry, they never saw anyone else. In a giant lake few hundred miles behind them, dozens of fish beasts were already maturing, their lengths exceeded twenty yards. They had six pairs of fins which acted like wings, allowing them to fly in the air.
The scariest thing was that when these fish beasts flew in the air, their bodies would be enveloped by clouds, just like Saleen’s Quickcloud Spell. With these clouds, the fish beasts could spend a long duration outside water and their offensive powers would not be limited at all.
These dozens of horrifying fish beasts were currently encircling a tall human. This person had a build similar to Wild Bear, just that he was taller, so he appeared slimmer.
This person was fully naked. His pupils were red, and a pair of curved horns grew on his head. If he had a tail, then he would have resembled a demon.
This man grabbed corpses out of the thin air, tossing them at the fish beasts, as his eyes were filled with satisfaction.
Those bodies had been drawn there by the sandstorm. The wardens from the inquisition were among these bodies, and their clothes had been peeled away. When this person grabbed hold of the wardens’ bodies, his gaze was filled with extreme contempt.
“Abominable holy power, the believers of the Lord of Glory have actually entered the desert? Could they have located the Goddess of Myers’ temple? Heh, even if they have located it, they can hardly get close. A bunch of idiots. If the Goddess of Myers was so easy to deal with, the Lord of Glory wouldn’t have spent the last tens of thousands of years trying to open the seal, and still fail to enter the plane of the Myers mainland.” This weird person mumbled to himself as he tossed the wardens’ bodies at the fish beasts.
After a while, this man halted his actions, looking ever hideous.
“Why don’t I chase them and give them some directions. That way, I will have a reason to go to the temple. Those two scumbags won’t let me enter the temple, they don’t even allow me to enter the center of the desert. Discovering the lackeys of the Lord of Glory should justify an exception right?” The two scumbags this person was referring to were of course the goddess’ two envoys from the temple.
“I don’t believe those two jerks are still alive after so many years. If they are dead, the things in the temple will all belong to me!” This man calculated while being affected by complex emotions. He could not ascertain whether the protectors of the temple were alive or not.
He glanced left and right. After forcefully gathering creatures, he had cultivated another thirty-two fish beasts. Including the original eighty-seven of them, there was now a grand total of one-hundred and nineteen fish beasts.
“One-hundred and nineteen grade-8 creatures should be sufficient to resist those two people for a while right? As long as I obtain the items left behind by the goddess, it doesn’t matter even if I lose all my amassed power. If this body doesn’t get changed, it will start to decompose. The damn demons actually rejected a religion!”
This person grabbed a short blade out of the thin air and slashed at his horns furiously. The short blade produced raucous noises as the horns got increasingly shorter. Finally, the horns were chopped off.
This man threw the chopped horns into nothingness angrily, then he put away the short blade and rubbed his hands, fixing his gaze into the distance.
“Because of this body, Myers didn’t accept my religion. Without this body, how could I have lived for over ten-thousand years and achieved such a height? He let his thoughts run wild, as his red pupils were slightly dazed. Then the fish beasts encircling him began bellowing boisterously.
The roars of the fish beasts were shrill, reaching straight for the sky.
“Shut up!” The man was outraged. He was recalling memories of the Goddess of Myers and got interrupted by those beasts. With a kick full of rage, he sent a fish beast over twenty yards long flying into the air. This grade-8 fish beast burst into a pool of blood under his feet.
“I must not get furious, must not!” The man hollered, causing the muscles on his face to be contorted.
“After leaving this place, my powers have reduced drastically. I still have to depend on these fish beasts to get close to the temple. Damn it, this thing under my feet cannot be removed, it seems to have grown together with the earth.”
He stamped his feet, causing the water surface underneath his feet to sink for about half a foot, revealing a flat stone surface.
This surface was tiny, about thirty square yards only. The water level continued falling, gradually exposing the terrain. The rain attracted by the Divine spell had dispersed. The water in the pond quickly dried up as it seeped into the ground.
Beneath this person’s feet was actually a towering stone pillar, and a huge portion of it was buried in the black sand. The ancient Myers language and divine language were carved atop this stone pillar. A metal chain was attached to this person’s ankle, and this chain was stuck deep in the pillar, trapping him to the peak of this thirty square yards stone pillar.
The divine power held in this metal chain was uncontrollable, as it gave off a brilliant radiance. An endless stream of divine power diffused from the stone pillar into this man’s body, raising his strength to the highest possible theoretical level.
This chain was a form of imprisonment, but it also provided him with massive strength. That was why he could produce the horrifying sandstorm, capturing so many creatures across the desert.
As this person stared at the metal chain, his eyes were filled with complexity. “Myers, Myers, I don’t need a religion anymore!”
At this point in his thoughts, he grabbed onto the metal chain furiously, pulling with all his might. Even the ground trembled, giving off a thunderous noise. Other than the fish beasts at the core of this pillar, those fish beasts which had not matured were all knocked unconscious.
“Break!” This man tugged at the metal chain around his ankle desperately. No matter what, this metal chain showed no signs of loosening.
“Is this the power of the earth? Humph, since I want to leave, don’t try to stop me.” The man grabbed the short blade out of thin air once again. This time around, he hacked at his own foot.
The clanging of metal filled the air. The razor sharp short blade only amputated half of his foot, but no blood gushed out. Tolerating the excruciating pain, he slashed again. This time, the foot bone had broken, his foot was only dangling from a bit of flesh.
“Don’t, don’t try to trap me, I don’t need it anymore!” Going berserk, he hacked a third time. His right foot finally broke away. The metal chain whined as it lost the divine light, it wilted on the ground like a dying snake.
This man stared at his foot on the ground, he clenched his teeth but did not pick it up. Instead, he nonchalantly cast a Divine skill, and at the severed area of his leg, a new foot grew out rapidly. He looked at the new foot in dissatisfaction. The new limb would surely be weaker than the original one, yet it did not have much of an impact on his offensive power.
Lowering his head, he told the lifeless metal chain, “I am leaving, you shall wait here for the goddess’ return. Heh, if I become a god one day, I might consider coming back to visit you.” When he said this sentence, the confusion in his eyes had disappeared, and in its place was a tinge of evil.
“I, Bedagolasi, will become the new God of Nature as long as the divine trees are still around. By then, you will be mine.” After venting his anger on the metal chain, he summoned the fish beasts and commanded them to move. A divine light emanated from his body, but it had a dark green hue. In the blink of an eye, he had already left the bulky stone pillar.
The moment he left, that stone pillar suddenly broke down, turning into a pile of dust and dispersing with the wind.
From the depths of the earth, came an enraged roar. It was as though an ancient giant had awoken and realized that his most precious item had been stolen.
