Chapter 266: The Rain
Chapter 266: The Rain
T/N: Sorry for the late update, guys. Today is hell day for me since it's a midterm examination day with our four hardest subjects being the one to take my soul away.
-----
Watching Lubao run away without a hint of sadness, Qiao Sang fell into deep confusion.
Failed again?
Where did it go wrong?
After a long while of pondering, Qiao Sang suddenly realized that the problem wasn't about making Lubao suffer heartbreak, it was about making her fall out of love.
---
Time ticked by, second by second.
Soon, night descended.
In the evening, Lubao still hadn't fallen out of love. With scissors in hand and a heavy heart, Qiao Sang looked at Yabao and said, "I've thought it over. The reason Lubao likes you is simply because you're too handsome. If we change your appearance just a bit, she'll definitely lose interest."
"Xun..." Little Treasure, standing nearby, nodded enthusiastically in agreement.
"Yap Yap!"
Yabao looked at the scissors, tears welling in his eyes as he shook his head desperately.
"Don't worry, the fur will grow back soon." Qiao Sang approached with the scissors, speaking gently.
"Yap!"
Yabao took one step back at a time.
Until he was backed up against the wall, watching as the scissors approached, his eyes filled with despair.
What did Lubao's heartbreak have to do with his fur?!
Would shaving him really make him any less handsome?!
---
Meanwhile, in the courtyard,
Lubao was concentrating hard, trying to condense the mist bit by bit.
Before long, the mist dissipated.
"Lu Lu..." Lubao showed a frustrated expression.
"What are you practicing?" Yang Du walked up with a smile.
"Maybe I can help."
Most mission-takers followed an unspoken rule: During a mission, they wouldn't involve themselves in the client's personal affairs, only the mission itself.
So lately, whenever Yang Du returned, he mostly stayed in his room.
But since the client mentioned today might be the last day of the mission, he couldn't stay put.
Lunao glanced at the human in front of her, flicked her tail, and turned her head arrogantly, about to leave.
"I'm guessing you're trying to harness mist energy." Yang Du said.
As a B-rank Beast Tamer, he did have a certain level of perception when it came to beast skills.
"Lu Lu."
Lubao paused, turning back with a wary look.
Yang Du smiled.
"There's no need to be so cautious around me. I just want to help. After today, I'll probably be leaving."
"Ze Ze." The Abyssal Zegua at his side nodded, indicating that its tamer really was a good person.
"If you don’t trust me, I could let Dou Dou help you." Yang Du pointed to the Abyssal Zegua.
"It also knows mist skills and is quite familiar with water techniques."
"Ze Ze." The Abyssal Zegua nodded again.
"Lu Lu?"
Lubao looked at the Abyssal Zegua with deep, inquisitive eyes.
Can it summon rain?
"Ze Ze." The Abyssal Zegua nodded.
Although Yang Du couldn't understand Lubao's language, he could understand his own beast's response. He smiled confidently.
"It learned to summon rain nine years ago."
"Lu Lu…"
Nine years ago?!
Lubao’s face filled with shock, the time it took to learn to summon rain was older than she was!
Yang Du seemed to remember something and said, "The day’s almost over, and I still don’t know when your tamer plans to make it rain."
"Lu Lu?"
Lubao looked at the human in front of her with confusion.
Yang Du could understand the question in Lubao’s eyes without the Abyssal Zegua’s translation, so he explained:
"I’m here for a rain-summoning task. They wanted the ability to make it rain anytime, but I've been here so long without being asked to make it rain once. Today’s supposed to be the last day, yet it’s already nightfall, and still no rain. I wonder what’s going on."
He paused, recalling today's events.
"Your tamer seemed a bit strange today, along with Flame Hound and Treasure-Seeking Demon."
Realizing he was veering off topic, Yang Du smiled.
"Never mind that. If you want to learn how to summon rain, Dou Dou can teach you. Then, if your tamer ever wants it to rain, they won’t have to go out of their way to request it."
"Lu Lu…"
Lubao’s face showed confusion.
Wanting to summon rain at will, why?
Shui Luoya wasn't dull; on the contrary, she was very perceptive. Even the slightest disturbance wouldn't escape her notice.
This sensitivity had allowed Lubao to escape from the ancient Guwu region to Yuhua without being captured.
To make it rain anytime…
Rain…
Rain!
A memory suddenly surged forth, and Lubao’s eyes widened.
"If you want to become stronger, the most effective way is to evolve. I’ve researched it, if you want to evolve, you need to feel the pang of heartbreak on a rainy day. The surge of emotions will fuel your evolution."
"That's why I'm showing you these videos, to see which kind of beast you might like."
"How about this one?"
"What about this one?"
"Yap?"
The memory faded as Yabao approached.
Lubao wavered, her body trembling.
Yabao! He was an actor! From the beginning, it was all a setup to deceive her! Everything had been a lie!
"Lu Lu!!!"
With a heart-wrenching cry, a white light engulfed Lubao.
Yang Du froze, his mouth wide open in shock.
"What the… what's going on?!"
The light of evolution?
Evolving in the middle of a conversation?! Is that even reasonable?! Scientific?!
"Qiao Sang! Qiao Sang!" Yang Du snapped back to reality, rushing inside and shouting.
"What’s going on?" Qiao Sang stopped what she was doing and opened the door.
"Yap…" Yabao breathed a sigh of relief behind her.
"Water Luriana’s evolving! Go take a look!" Yang Du said, excited.
"Evolving?!" Qiao Sang’s face froze momentarily before her eyes widened, and she dashed toward the courtyard.
As she ran, she shouted, "Rain! Make it rain! Right now, rain!"
"Alright! Alright!" Yang Du, though clueless about why, knew his task was to make it rain.
He didn’t run to the courtyard but instead used his mind to connect with his Beast Taming Codex.
"Ze…"
The Deep Sea Ze Beast in the courtyard raised its head, sensing the signal, and let out a call.
Dark clouds immediately filled the sky, and in an instant, heavy rain poured down, the drops hitting the ground with a loud plop plop.
When Qiao Sang reached the courtyard, she was met with a downpour and the fading white light.
She actually evolved... Watching Lubao enveloped in light, Qiao Sang felt a strong sense of disbelief.
She couldn’t figure it out. They’d tried everything all day, using every method, yet nothing had made Lubao evolve.
And now, without doing anything but waiting in her room, Lubao had evolved. Why?
Qiao Sang didn’t dwell on the question long, for the white light was fading...
