Chapter 2009 - Goodbye, Sun Emperor (2)
"What can you do? Why won’t you die?!" If he couldn’t sicken Tianming one last time, the sun emperor would have really suffered a crushing defeat and made a fool of himself. The red-haired man’s face was twisted into an ugly grimace, angry one moment then tenacious the next, his eyes smoldering like torches.
"When Feng attacked, he managed to damage the sun’s soul in the coffin, which gave me an opportunity. Watch and learn, Tianming. Dammit! I’ve waited so long I’m going crazy!"
Tianming didn't know what was happening inside the coffin, but the faces of the two were contorted.
"You’re looking for trouble? Seeking death!" Most of the time, they appeared angry and overbearing. The bastard was so obsessed with winning that he wanted the last laugh even if he had already lost.
"They're probably fighting inside!" There was nothing Tianming could do to help. His heart pounded. Just then, Qingyu reported that Lingeng still showed no signs of regaining consciousness, so it was unlikely he could get him to separate the two. Lingfeng's condition might have been caused by the Primordial Demon devouring too many souls. Whether or not he even could regain consciousness remained a mystery. With the sun emperor’s many methods, Tianming couldn’t afford to wait.
"Just as I expected of you, Li Wudi! You can get up again even though you have no chance of winning!" That was his style. The two Li Wudis were actually different. Tianming's godfather was lazy, had little self-control, and possessed no desire for power. All he wanted was to live free and happy. But in terms of fighting spirit, he was every bit as formidable as the sun emperor. Having endured fourteen years of suffering, tenacity was written in his bones, so Tianming wasn’t at all surprised that he had managed to find an opportunity at a time like this.
"You’re just an ordinary person. Everything you’ve accomplished is because of me. You dare fight me with that mortal soul? Don’t you know what you’re going up against?" Roaring with rage, the golden-haired man knelt on the ground, his gaze fierce.
The red-haired man said the same thing most of the time, but would occasionally reveal Li Wudi's expression. He contemptuously said, "Thanks to you, I’m no longer just a mortal soul!" When we finally separate, you can die and I’ll be a true sovereign. I must thank you for giving me thousands of years of cultivation and transforming a little frog at the bottom of the well into a true sovereign. You’ll always be my great benefactor. But you can go to hell now, haha! Let me tell you this: I’ve been playing the fool for so long just so I can end you!" He was ecstatic.
"You’re amazing!" Tianming was also excited. From Li Wudi's words, it seemed he had remained dormant for a long time, but once he made his move, it would be earth-shattering and the possibility of success was almost certain. It was the exact same method he had used to defeat Yuwen Taiji all those years ago. "I remember that it was Godfather who defeated Yuwen Taiji and returned the Grand-Orient Sword to me. And today I struck the Flameyellow Coffin with the Grand-Orient Sword, giving him a chance. What goes around comes around. We’ve come full circle!" He felt at ease. "Let’s make the perfect ending together!" Tianming couldn't wait for the moment Li Wudi succeeded in slaying the sun emperor. Then he could report the good news to Qingyu.
Time passed quickly as the two fought amidst a blistering tirade of obscenities. Although Tianming couldn't watch the battle in the coffin, he knew it was fierce. Without the impetus of the sun, the Flameyellow Coffin seemed to have abandoned the sun emperor. The sun’s soul was most likely at its weakest. The entire process lasted for about fifteen minutes before Tianming noticed that the red-haired man began showing more and more expressions belonging to Li Wudi. The golden-haired sun emperor sank into rage and resentment. In the end, he was completely mad and unable to speak, bloody tears streaming down his cheeks.
"The heavens turned their back on me! Flameyellow Imperial Star, since you chose me, why allow Li Tianming to ruin everything? This isn’t fair! I bear the sins, but he enjoys the merits and achievements! Why?! The heavens and ancestors are all bastards. Give me an answer! Give it to me!" He knelt on the ground, screaming his heart out. If he could take Li Wudi away and inflict pain upon Tianming, at least he would have a shred of dignity left and wouldn’t be as resentful. But now that he had lost everything, he was grief-stricken and in so much pain. It was as if the four trillion baleful souls had crawled on his head and bit into his flesh.
He was at least a great man of this generation. His ending seemed pitiful, but what could Tianming do? It was the sun emperor who wanted to kill him and seize the Ninedragon Imperial Tomb, and it was he who wanted his godfather's life. He insisted on slaughtering innocents if Tianming remained alive.
"You forced yourself into this just to take over the world. You shouldn’t blame anyone. You did this to yourself!" Tianming didn't think he had done anything wrong. All he wanted was to live, and the same for the people around him.
"You’re the one that stood in my way. Without you, the sun would be perfect! You’re the one who should die!" The sun emperor looked up, staring at him with red eyes.
"Get ready, Tianming. The sun’s soul is about to split apart. Both of our souls will return to their original bodies. When the time comes, kill him and it’ll all be over!" the red-haired Li Wudi urged.
Tianming nodded. He held the Grand-Orient Sword, ready to make the final move. Once the sword fell, everything would come to an end and the sun would be born again. When everything was over, he could deal with the specters, illuminate the Imperialdragon Palace, inspect the brand new tomb, seek for the right conditions for Sixth’s birth, meet up with Feiling, and explore the realm of chaos. "Of course, the most important thing is to get drunk with Godfather."
At the moment of holding such a powerful enemy’s life in his hands, Tianming's heart pounded in his chest like a drum. The Flameyellow Coffin shook. Tianming could see two condensed clouds return to the sun emperor and Li Wudi’s bodies. The coffin was now without a master; there was no artifact to protect the sun emperor. Li Wudi was no longer the sun emperor’s clone, so their lives were no longer connected.
"Kill him!" Li Wudi's eager voice sounded behind him, resentment and years of unbearable pain hidden in his exhortation.
Tianming's eyes were fiery. The sun emperor kneeled before him. When his soul returned to his body, he raised his head, messy hair covering his eyes, and stared at the white-haired youth with a dark gaze. Although he wanted to speak, his throat was hoarse from all the yelling so he failed to utter a single word. However, his eyes spoke of pain and confusion.
It was the moment Tianming had been waiting for. "Die!" With the Imperial Sword Prison in the sun emperor’s body, he didn't have to use the Grand-Orient Sword. Just triggering it would turn the sun emperor into a broken pile of flesh. Right before the moment of his death, the sun emperor looked lost and anxious, yet seemed to be in a dream he couldn’t wake up from, struggling but unable to move.
Is this a so-called sovereign? He’s just as much of a mess before death as any mortal. One last thought flashed through Tianming's mind. "Die!" He activated the Imperial Sword Prison. After all the sun emperor had done to Li Wudi, Tianming couldn’t wait to kill him, even in his dreams.
"Goodbye, Sun Emperor." After mumbling those words, the Imperial Sword Prison took effect and Tianming was ready to smile in relief. But at that moment, the man, still kneeling, exhausted all his strength to bend four fingers on his left hand, leaving only the middle finger, trembling as he pointed it at Tianming.
