Chapter 404

After Rachel left the private room, she met Mr. Chadwick halfway.

“Miss Grey, Mr. Johnson invites you up for a seat.”

Rachel subconsciously glanced at the manager of Joyce’s.

The manager broke out in cold sweat and subconsciously looked at Mr. Chadwick.

Mr. Chadwick explained with a smile, “Miss Grey, you should know that there’s nothing that can be hidden from Mr. Johnson here.”

Rachel thought so too.

This was a property under her maternal grandfather’s name. It was not an exaggeration to say that everyone here spied for him.

She followed Mr. Chadwick into the private room.

However, she never expected that the person sitting here chatting with her maternal grandfather was actually David.

She restrained the shock in her eyes and looked deeply at David.

Her gaze seemed to be asking why he was here.

David lowered his eyes to hide the dark and complicated expression in them.

He slowly picked up the cup and took a sip.

At this moment, Old Mr. Johnson said, “Rae–Rae, since you’re here, why don’t you sit down and listen to it? After all, it concerns your marriage.”

When David heard this, his fingers holding the cup tightened.

“Marriage?” Rachel looked at Old Mr. Johnson in confusion.

Old Mr. Johnson smiled and nodded. He rubbed his watch and looked at David with a meaningful gaze in his gloomy eyes. “That’s right. Mr. Jones specially asked me out this time to fulfill the engagement we made back then.”

He picked up the cup and took a sip. “Speaking of which, you’ve met Mr. Jones a few times before. I think he’s mentioned the engagement to you before. What do you think?”

“Engagement?” Rachel looked at David in confusion.

When Old Mr. Johnson saw Rachel’s puzzled expression, his eyes flashed with gloominess. “Could it be that Mr. Jones has never mentioned it to you before?”

David looked up and gave Old Mr. Johnson a dark look.

In order to avoid Rachel, he specially chose to meet Old Mr. Johnson at Joyce’s.

He did not expect to be tricked by this old fox in front of him.

Old Mr. Johnson was trying to sow discord!

“Mr. Johnson, I’ll leave the things behind. I’ll personally visit you another‘ day.” David’s intuition told him that he could not stay here for long. He stood up and was about to leave.

Old Mr. Johnson suddenly said, “Logically speaking, with the token here, the Johnson family can’t deny this marriage. However, marriage matters have to follow Rae–Rae’s wishes. Please bring this thing

back, Mr. Jones.” As soon as he finished speaking, Rachel noticed a box on the table.

She vaguely remembered that Rosie specially gave this box to David when they left Old Mrs. Jones’s Trinisia garden last time.

But what did this box have to do with the Johnson family?

As she was thinking, she heard David say, “Since I took it out, there’s no reason for me to bring it back.”

With that, he slowly stood up. “I still have something to do. I’ll take my leave first. Goodbye.”

“Mr. Jones, goodbye.” Old Mr. Johnson stood up and watched David leave before sitting back in his chair.

Rachel glanced at her maternal grandfather and casually glanced at the box on the table. She picked up the coffee pot and refilled coffee for Old Mr. Johnson. “Is the thing inside this box very important?”

Old Mr. Johnson did not say anything. Instead, he stared at Rachel for a long time.

“Rae–Rae.”

“Huh?” Rachel subconsciously turned around.

Old Mr. Johnson’s cloudy eyes were clearer than ever. He put away his usual benevolence and peace and looked at her seriously. “It’s been a long time since you visited your mother, right? Take the time to visit her. You’re probably the person she can’t let go of the most in this world.”
