Chapter 76: On What Grounds Should I Accept?
As the saying went: It’s frightening when the brash one is unafraid of death.
The young man in the black leather jacket felt that they had really been unlucky this time.
“The two of you, just you wait!” After the youth hurriedly said that, he quickly escaped the scene.
The other youngsters got up from the ground one after another. They stared at Quan Jue harshly with unconvinced eyes before hurriedly leaving as well.
Quan Jue looked at Chi Jiao indifferently. “What are you doing here?”
“I was just passing by and wanted to visit you on the way.” Chi Jiao smiled, revealing her white and neat little teeth.
“Now that you have seen me, you can leave.” Quan Jue walked forward.
When Chi Jiao saw that he was about to leave so soon, she hurriedly caught up with him. “Brother Quan, where were you going earlier?”
“You have a lot of questions.” Quan Jue’s tone was extremely cold. “You should go home.”
Chi Jiao puffed her cheeks. “It’s still early. I’m not going back. Did you come out for supper?”
Quan Jue simply did not answer her. Anyway, she always blocked out what she didn’t want to hear and just said what she wanted to say.
Sometimes, he was really curious. Why was her personality so stubborn despite looking so gentle and soft?
“You saved me earlier, so I have to repay you. Shall I treat you to supper?” The young lady followed beside Quan Jue and looked at him with sparkling eyes filled with worship.
Quan Jue stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. “Even if it was anyone else earlier, I would have helped. I didn’t do it just because it’s you.”
“So?” Chi Jiao tilted her head and looked at him, her clear eyes void of any impurities.
Quan Jue stared at her and felt that she didn’t understand what he meant.
He didn’t need her gratitude.
“Head home and stop following me.” Quan Jue didn’t explain himself in the end and continued to stride forward.
Standing behind Quan Jue, Chi Jiao realized that he seemed to be limping when he walked quickly.
“You were injured earlier?” Chi Jiao quickened her footsteps and caught up with him.
“No,” Quan Jue answered coldly.
“So, what happened to your leg?”
“Nothing. I won’t die yet.”
Chi Jiao was a little angry now. She walked forward in a couple of steps and blocked his path with her arms outstretched.
“What happened to your leg?” Her tone was a little harsh, and the expression on her petite face was a little stern.
Quan Jue looked down at the young lady standing in front of him and saw his reflection in her clear, dark eyes.
It was because her eyes were too clean. He could see through them the filth imprinted in his flesh and bones, and the darkness imprinted in his soul.
How was someone like him worthy to appear in her eyes?
His eyes were cold and malicious.
“Chi Jiao, are you done?” he asked.
“Why do you always have to reject others’ good intentions like this?” Chi Jiao didn’t know what Quan Jue had experienced in her previous life to have raised such a stubborn and dark personality. She regretted not letting her gaze linger on him more in her previous life to understand him better.
“Good intentions?” Quan Jue savored the word with a mocking tone as he bent down slightly. His demonically handsome face approached Chi Jiao. “Your good intentions are worthless to me, so on what grounds should I accept them? Miss Chi, don’t think you’re always a princess in everyone’s hearts. Don’t think so highly of yourself.”
Seeing the young lady’s face turning pale, Quan Jue subconsciously clenched his fists.
