Chapter 43 This Is Not A Normal Behaviour (2)
Erik slowly opened his eyes in front of him; there was a white ceiling with some rectangular lamps hung to it.
It was an unfamiliar view, but as soon as Erik looked around, he immediately understood where he was. The hospital.
He was currently on a hospital bed. There were multiple machines all around him, but luckily, none were attached to him.
At his bedside, Erik saw a man wearing a military uniform. Since his sight was a little bit impaired, he didn't immediately recognize him. Still, after a couple of seconds of looking at him, he recognized him.
"Uncle Benjamin..." Erik said with a raspy voice.
"Erik!" the man said. "How are you? How do you feel?"
"Not bad," he replied. "I have been better, though..."
"You got me worried for a moment, boy..." Benjamin said while holding Erik's hand.
"What the hell did happen?" he asked.
At that moment, Erik remembered what had led him to be inside the hospital. He was attacked by Conal, Orson, and Logan.
They used their powers, their damned powers, to hurt him. He couldn't believe it, that was really excessive.
Erik couldn't understand how someone could do something like that; it was already a lot being beaten by them almost every day, but using their powers? That was enough to make them go to jail.
Erik took his time before replying to Benjamin, and the latter noticed he had something to say but didn't.
The fact was that Erik was in the middle of an emotional storm. Did they just try to kill him? But if so, why was he alive? Was it possible that they decided to spare him?
As the young man recalled what happened, rage started slowly surging inside of him. He tried not to let this feeling get out since he knew how dangerous such emotions were.
So far, he managed to keep control over himself, but now when he thought about those bastards who assaulted him... well, it wasn't easy.
When he considered the possibility that this thing could happen again, his anger grew stronger. And then another question came into mind: Why hadn't anyone stopped them from attacking him?
Shouldn't anyone have stopped these guys if he was going to be killed or even seriously injured? Didn't anyone care?
No, no one cared! Everyone hated him because of his abilities, everyone except for Uncle Benjamin. Maybe it would be best if he left this place. Leave everything here and go somewhere else. Somewhere safe. Then he wouldn't have to worry anymore.
But there was also another option. It slowly started spreading inside his mind, growing more intense until it became clear.
It grew, slowly as a seed inside a pot, until it became a full-fledged tree that towered over everything else, kill them.
This was the right choice; it made sense. These people wanted to harm him and deserved whatever fate awaited them.
He would tear them apart without any mercy if he found them again because he knew they wouldn't stop harassing him. If he went so far as to send him to the hospital, he would likely do so again.
Benjamin noticed the weird behavior in his friend's son but kept silent until his emotions subsided.
"What's the matter, Erik? What happened? Tell me something," Benjamin asked again.
"I was assaulted..." he said.
"Do you know who they were?"
"No," Erik replied. He lied to Benjamin because he had other plans for Conal, Logan, and Orson, but they couldn't be in jail for it to take place. "I think they were thugs or something like that..."
He then lay on the bed and turned to look at Benjamin again, then he asked, "What happened once I lost consciousness?"
"A passerby found you losing blood on the road and called an ambulance, you were rushed here in critical conditions, as you lost a lot of blood. You are lucky to be alive," Benjamin said.
Dread grew inside the young man's mind. They did it big this time.
"Look, I'm going to call the police. Whoever did this to you must pay."
Erik also wondered why Logan, Conal, and Orson didn't kill him since Erik could have reported them to the police. Maybe they were scared or simply didn't have the guts to do so, or probably, as Erik believed, they wanted to torment him more.
It was clear that they assumed he wouldn't, and they were correct, as Erik had no intention of saying who assaulted him. Not that it mattered, by the way, as never once in his life he got the help he needed from teachers or others when he was beaten at school. Society was that rotten.
Later on, the police showed up. They barred Erik with questions about the aggression, and he told them what he told Benjamin, that he didn't know them, that they were probably thugs and that they left him there agonizing since they didn't find anything valuable on him.
Erik also got angry at the fact that the police came quickly since his uncle, a sergeant, called them, but that if he did, they wouldn't have cared.
These kinds of things weren't rare, as the Crystal Cross Gang had members roaming inside the city, robbing people and the police hardly did anything.
When they finished asking all their questions, the policemen left.
Afterward, Benjamin sat down beside Erik. The boy seemed troubled by the events, which caused Benjamin to ask him what was wrong.
"Nothing," he replied. But inside of him, Erik was burning with rage.
"Do you mind if I call Mister Fox?" Erik asked Benjamin.
"No problem."
He took his phone from his backpack, which was on the ground beside the bed, and contacted his employer. He more or less explained what happened to the old man and explained to him why he didn't go to work.
The old man was actually worried for him, but he didn't let it transpire.
"When you were sleeping, I called a healer, Erik," Benjamin said.
"There was no reason, uncle Ben."
"Stop dismissing the thing as if nothing happened, Erik. I couldn't leave you in that state."
A healer was someone with a brain crystal power that forced mana to heal injuries. Since the sinister cold, some powers spawned inside the population more than once, and a healing brain crystal power was among them.
It wasn't to the point that there were countless such individuals, but they were a lot compared to others with unique powers. As many were the people who could wield the elements.
The fact that there were many people with similar or the same power didn't mean they were weaker. People with element-controlling brain crystal powers, in fact, were among the strongest. It wasn't rare for such people to be born, but it wasn't even so common.
After an hour, the man in question finally arrived. It took him ten minutes to close Erik's wounds. He felt immediately better after being healed.
"You're ok now," the healer said. His name was Raul, and he was known to everyone living in the city as the best healer in New Alexandria.
A good reputation was enough to ensure he would always get plenty of clients, most of whom were military or rich people. Like everyone, he also served in the military and took the role of a medic.
"Thank you, sir."
"Don't mention it," the man replied.
Raul then left the room, leaving Erik alone with Benjamin.
"Erik, if you don't want to go back to school, you only have to tell me, and i will talk to the teachers," Benjamin said.
Erik shrugged; there was no reason to do so, especially since Raul healed him. Besides, he had something to do the following day.
"There is no need to... Thanks, uncle."
Benjamin nodded.
"Ok, well...Since you are ok now, I will bring you home. Is it ok for you?"
"Yes, uncle. Thank you."
