Shangguan Ning shivered. She turned pale and tears filled her eyes.

Jing Yichen’s heart ached. He took her into his arms and patted her back softly to console her.

After a short while, he heard her speaking in a stable and firm tone, “Who is it, Yichen? I want him to suffer.”

She, who had never witnessed or experienced massacre was able to adjust herself within such a short period so that she didn’t get immersed in the grief for long. Should he be sad or happy?

“I got the man and I have a recording of his confession. Do you want to see the man or hear the record? There was more than one murderer.”

“I want to see the man,” Shangguan Ning spoke firmly. A touch of fierceness flashed across her eyes.

This was the Shangguan Ning whom Jing Yichen had never met before. She was extraordinarily strong in willpower and exceptionally determined. But that made his heart ache even more – she must have got this outstanding willpower because she had experienced grief and despair.

She was the daughter of a Deputy-Mayor and should have lived a cozy and happy life rather than being involved in all this.

Jing Yichen hadn’t wanted her to meet Black Wind, because he was afraid that Shangguan Ning would become even sadder after meeting him. But he wanted to respect her decision and left the choice to her rather than influence it.

Shangguan Ning chose to meet that man without hesitation and Jing Yichen felt very proud to have such a brave wife.

He kissed his wife’s forehead and said softly, “Let’s go, I will take you to meet that man.”

In a completely isolated room, Shangguan Ning listened to Black Wind narrating the past that was full of blood and cruelty, with a pale face.

“Yang Wenshu made all this happen. After Shangguan Rouxue was born, she had been planning to replace your mother so as to move into the luxurious villa with her daughter. Shangguan Zheng had known Yang Wenshu before marrying your mother, but at that time she was of no value. That was why your mother managed to marry into Family Shangguan. But Yang Wenshu didn’t want to accept the truth, so she tried all she could to kill your mother and to replace her. It was her idea to make you mother die in front of you.”

Shangguan Ning’s fingers were tightly clenched together. The force made her knuckles go white.

Her mother had died for no fault of her own. She had protected her, her young daughter. Her love had been immense for her child.

“So my mother didn’t kill herself?” Shangguan Ning realized that her voice was extremely hoarse when she spoke.

“No.”

“She was forced to die because of you and Yang Wenshu?” She was asking the same thing as if to confirm it. Tears had already gushed out of her eyes and her heart ached indescribably. She had no other way to vent the emotions.

“Yes.”

“Was Shangguan Zheng involved with this matter?”

Black Wind remained silent for a moment and said, “No. But he must have guessed what happened, otherwise he would not have got scared of Yang Wenshu. He must have sensed her viciousness, that was why...”

Before he could finish his words, Shangguan Ning walked up to him, snatched up the knife which had been kept for the interrogation and stabbed it into Black Wind’s shoulder blades, without hesitation.

Black Wind let out a cry of pain. He had already been at the edge of death and passed out completely at this moment.

Shangguan Ning didn’t stab him in heart. Instead, she stabbed his shoulder blades which would cause him tremendous pain. She didn’t want Black Wind to die. She wanted him to live and to pay back for her mother’s death.

She stabbed him once again, not caring that Black Wind had already passed out. He shivered slightly because of the pain.

As for Yang Wenshu, she wanted to stab her until she was completely mutilated and suffered dreadfully.

Death was the lightest punishment for them. She wanted them to live and then lose the thing they cared most about so that they could fall into despair until they got so tormented and decided to kill themselves instead.

She sudenly realised that her mother had not committed suicide out of her free will or because she wanted to abandon her. That made Shangguan Ning suddenly felt slightly less heavy in her heart.

She had finally found the killer and punished the culprit. Her mother’s soul in Heaven could finally be consoled. She could finally kneel down in front of her mother’s grave and tell her that she had extracted the revenge for her.

Now, Shangguan Ning felt empty. She leaned upon Jing Yichen’s chest and said lightly, “Thank you, Yichen. Today is the brightest day since I was ten years old.”

Jing Yichen took her in his arms and said in an unusually gentle tone, “Silly girl. We are husband and wife, and your bright day is my bright day too. I can do anything for you, as long as you are happy and well!”

He brought Shangguan Ning out of the dimly lit room and the warm sunlight dazzled on them as if it was lighting up Shangguan Ning’s entire life.

“Now, what do you plan to do with Yang Wenshu? Should I offer my help?”

Shangguan Ning looked up and a touch of coldness flashed across the face. “Leave her to me. I will send her into hell with my own hands!”

Jing Yichen held her skinny shoulders and replied, “Okay!”

He had not touched Yang Wenshu and allowed her to live, because he wanted to give her to Shangguan Ning who was going to take revenge for her mother so that she could vent her grief and anger somehow.

Seeing that Shangguan Ning became a bit better after stabbing Black Wind, Jing Yichen held her hands and walked towards the parking place.

However, they had just reached the car and not yet opened the door when Jing Yichen immediately felt a tingling sensation at the back of his neck.

He was a man who had been involved in many near death situations and was attuned towards the upcoming danger. He stood right in front of Shangguan Ning before the bullet hit her.

He was thinking about nothing. There was only one thing going on his functioning brain – Nothing must happen to Shangguan Ning. He didn’t want her to get hurt.

The bullet ripped through Jing Yichen’s shirt with a loud swishing sound, ripping off his muscle and digging right into his chest.

Large amount of blood gushed out of him, soaking his shirt and splattering blood over Shangguan Ning’s face. He started to lose consciousness and fell backwards.

Before the darkness came to him, what he could hear was Shangguan Ning’s shrill scream. “Yichen!”
