Shangguan Ning knew that the mother and the daughter weren’t here with a true heart, so she wasn’t too sad seeing them leaving in this way. It was already quite difficult for them to put on a smile without cursing her.
She put the snacks Lin Yu gave her into the fridge and was about to go into the bedroom when she suddenly discovered that Cousin’s newest version of LV handbag was left on the sofa.
She snatched up the exquisite handbag, grabbed the key to the home door and rushed out.
If she didn’t return the handbag to Huang Xinyi tonight, she would definitely accuse her of stealing her bag the following day.
Shangguan Ning took the elevator downstairs to the first floor but failed to find them. Then she hurried to the parking lot on the floor below.
She let out a sigh of relief seeing the brand-new BMW still parked over there.
She handed the handbag into the car and sounded distant. “Cousin, you forgot your handbag.”
Seeing her daughter wearing a frozen expression and eyes burning with anger, Lin Yu jabbed her daughter with her elbow, indicating that she should at least pretend a little.
The daughter had complied with her at home, so why could she not pretend for just one second now.
She forced a pretentious smile on the face and took the handbag for Huang Xinyi’s sake. “Oh man, she is always so careless. I wonder when will she get rid of this problem? Thank you, Ning. It is cold outside, do you want to come and sit in the car?”
Before Shangguan Ning could turn down the offer, Huang Xinyi screamed. “No way! You are never allowed in my car! I’d rather you die of the chill!”
Lin Yu covered her daughter’s mouth and sounded incredibly friendly. “Ning... well, your cousin is very childish. I apologize to you on her behalf. Please don’t take it to your heart. Her arm still hurts, please forgive her as an elder cousin, okay...”
She kept nagging endlessly, but Huang Xinyi remained silent. She didn’t make any more noise.
Shangguan Ning became increasingly confused, and she was losing patience as well.
It was very cold in the parking lot. With only a pajama and an overcoat on her, she was already feeling cold.
“It is getting late, please go home, Aunt and Cousin.” With arms crossed into each other, she said lightly.
She didn’t walk away until their car drove away. But when she reached the door and grabbed the key, she suddenly realized that the door couldn’t be opened!
She took a closer look and found that the lock was completely new!
Someone just changed her lock when she was out a minute ago!
In just a moment, Shangguan Ning understood everything!
So Aunt had come with Cousin only for this matter.
No wonder Cousin left her handbag which she never would forget about, otherwise. No wonder she sensed that Aunt was trying to spend more time in the house. No wonder Cousin got so quiet in the end!
How could they be so ruthless?!
She had been them tolerating time and again, and what she had gained in the end was their crazy revenge.
She got so angry that her entire body shivered. The rage and the bitterness inside her heart engulfed her, making her tears trickle down sadly.
What Aunt wanted was, to earn back this apartment? Alright, she would never give it up now! She would take everything her Uncle gave to her in future. If they could be so cruel, she could be even more cruel!
But what about now?
She squatted down with hands over the knees, leaning against the freezing wall.
It was so cold that she almost froze. The wound on the back of her head was just getting better but when the cold wind attacked, it started to ache again.
What should she do? If she spent the entire night waiting outside, she would surely get sick.
It was her first day at new work the following day, and she mustn’t be late or absent.
But her wallet, cellphone and car keys were all locked in the apartment!
She had nowhere to go. Was she going to freeze to death outside?
What was she going to do??
Jing Yichen spotted Shangguan Ning who was huddled in the corner of the corridor with hands over the knees, the moment he walked out of the elevator on the sixth floor.
His heart ached badly.
He strode towards the weak figure and wanted to scoop her into his arms so that she would never be hurt again.
It was dark and quiet in the corridor. The elevator rang and the sound-control light turned on automatically.
Shangguan Ning followed the light and looked at the end of the corridor.
In the gentle, warm light, a tall, strong figure was walking towards her. The sound-control light in the corridor turned on above him one after another with his approaching step, all the way into her heart.
She was just like a helpless and bullied Cinderella in the darkness that met a handsome, tall prince who approached her step by step and brought her warmth and brightness.
“What are you doing here?” Shangguan Ning’s voice sounded so nasal that it was almost like a coquetry.
Without saying a word, Jing Yichen stripped his own coat and wrapped her up.
“Thank you, I... ah...”
Before Shangguan Ning could finish the words, she let out a surprised sound when she felt that her body was lifted off the ground.
Jing Yichen took her up in a horizontal way and walked towards the elevator without saying a word.
He was expressionless, but his body emitted a cold aura. He was colder than anytime she had ever met him.
Instinctively, she could sense that he was very angry, but she had no idea what he was angry about. So she obediently stayed huddled into his arms quietly.
His arms were very warm, offering an unprecedented sense of security. She could still feel his gentleness despite his cold expression.
A corner of her sealed heart started to melt quietly.
Seeing her obediently, quiet image in his arms, Jing Yichen got increasingly raged.
Why was she always so silly and obedient? Why did she care so much about others but so little about herself?
How he wished that she could be more selfish and love herself more!
If he had not sent anyone to follow her and taken care of her on the sly, if he hadn’t received the report from Tiger, would she have stayed in the corner with a thin layer of pajamas for the entire night?
He was able to feel her frozen body even through the coat. Why didn’t she come upstairs to him when she almost froze to death?
Didn’t he tell her that she could turn to him when she had a problem??
Even if he wasn’t at home, the servants at home would allow her in and take good care of her.
Was he so unworthy of her trust?
The rage in Jing Yichen’s heart increased, and his expression became increasingly cold.
He had planned to develop the relationship with her step by step, because he wanted her, like every other girl, to experience a romantic relationship with him and to get married when they were truly in love with each other.
But it seemed that his plan needed to be changed completely!
He didn’t want her to be hurt by anyone any more! She was silly and soft-hearted. Only by staying by his side, would she avoid being hurt.
Seeing Jing Yichen’s expression getting colder and colder, Shangguan Ning swallowed down her question of how he knew that she couldn’t enter her house. Instead, she left herself to him entirely and allowed herself to be carried all the way to the 27th floor, into his bedroom.
She thought that he was going to fling her casually into bed, but what he did was put her down into the bed softly, taking off her sandals with his long, strong hands, holding her little feet and stuffing them into the blanket.
He looked cold, and distant, but his behaviour was very gentle. He was afraid to hurt her.
She was already too badly hurt, and he would never want to hurt her more.
