Chapter 490: Baby’s Dad Part One
After staying at hospital for two days, Shangguan Ning and Jing Rui were both doing fine.
Post conducting a thorough check up of the mother and son, Mu Xin said with a smile, “Shangguan, you don’t need to stay at the hospital any more. You can go home with Master Junior now.”
Shangguan Ning was really glad to hear this. She held her wide eyed son who was blowing bubbles and said gratefully, “Thank you so much Xin, if it had not been for your efforts, we would not have been here safe and sound.”
Mu Xin played with Jing Rui and showed a gentle expression. “That’s not true. I am a doctor and it is my duty to take care of children and mothers. I like your little baby. He is sure to become a good-looking boy in the future!”
She felt that Jing Rui was definitely going to turn into another Jing Yichen. He looked way too much like his father!
And he was not at all like a premature baby. He was energetic and always craving for milk. Luckily, Shangguan Ning had enough milk to feed him now, otherwise he would have been starved.
Mu Xin understood clearly that the reason why Jing Rui was so strong was because of Shangguan Ning’s physical condition.
Before and during her pregnancy, she had been drinking the golden medicinal wine. That made her strong and fundamentally optimized Jing Rui’s body, otherwise Jing Rui would not have been so strong right at birth.
Mu Xin decided that when she got pregnant, she was definitely going to ask her grandpa to give her some of that wine as well.
Jing Yichen had not gone anywhere in the past two days and did nothing else apart from being deeply devoted to his wife and son.
When Mu Xin gave them the permission to go home, he picked up his son, kissed him on the forehead and said, “Son, we can go home now!”
Sister Lan and Sister Fang packed up their things, and Zhao Zhao handed the hat and scarf to Shangguan Ning to wrap herself in them before going outdoors.
Shangguan Ning couldn’t help but complain when she saw herself looking like a dumpling. “Aunt, this is too much. It is not that cold outside. It is springtime, now. I remember that Princess Kate went to greet the people in a thin dress after she gave birth to the baby. She seemed perfectly fine!”
Zhao Zhao regarded Shangguan Ning as her own daughter. So she glared at her without caring much. “This is what you should do in the first month after childbirth. Foreigners don’t know anything! If you don’t take care of yourself during the first month, you will surely face problems in the future. When you get old, you will have to suffer a lot. The wind outside is very cold and you should be fully covered so that it doesn’t get into your bones!”
Aunt Lan echoed. “This is true, Lady. It is our tradition that has been passed down from generations. You don’t need to wear so many clothes at home, just make sure that you stay warm. But you mustn’t go out without proper covering, especially not on your head, otherwise you will get a headache.”
“Alright, alright,” Shangguan Ning said helplessly. It wouldn’t hurt to listen to them, except that she felt a bit warm and couldn’t move well.
Tiger drove everyone to Landscape Compound. On the way home, Jing Yichen held his son in his arms, and did not want to give him to even Shangguan Ning. After they reached, he kept his son company, amusing Shangguan Ning and Zhao Zhao a great deal.
Shangguan Ning was not surprised that Jing Yichen was behaving in this way. In front of her, he had always been a talkative man.
But Zhao Zhao was shocked.
She never knew that her nephew could talk so much.
As far as she could remember, Jing Yichen never liked talking and replied to people’s questions in monosyllables.
Jing Yichen was not aware that Shangguan Ning and Zhao Zhao were laughing at him nor would he have cared if he had been aware.
He really loved his son and was enjoying these moments.
“Ruirui, say Dad, DAAAAd. Ruirui is going to be as smart as dad. Soon you will be able to talk and your first word will definitely be Dad...”
Jing Yichen kept teaching his son how to say Dad by prolonging the last letter.
The little fellow stared at him with a pair of big eyes. He stuffed his fist into his mouth and kicked Jing Yichen’s face.
Jing Yichen held his son’s feet and gently bit them. “You want to feed your toes to your father? Call me dad and I will eat them, okay?”
Zhao Zhao burst into laughter, deeply amused by her nephew. She just couldn’t stop laughing.
She pointed at Jing Yichen as she said to Shangguan Ning with a smile, “I would never have believed this behaviour of his had I not seen it in person!”
Shangguan Ning laughed but she was not very surprised.
When she was pregnant, Jing Yichen often spoke with their son in this manner. The only difference was that he was talking a bit more, today.
She understood why Jing Yichen was being so talkative. For one, he had been looking forward to his arrival for a long time, and for another, he wanted to show his love to his son.
Jing Yichen did not receive much fatherly love from Jing Zhongxiu, and they barely talked after Zhao Qing’s death. He did not want Jing Rui to be like him.
So he started to show his affection towards Jing Rui from the moment he was born. Everyone could tell that he loved his son deeply.
Lying in the bed, Shangguan Ning felt her heart soften at the sight of Jing Yichen who leaned against Jing Rui’s bed and played with him.
Jing Zhongxiu came to visit them the day after they came home.
It was the first time for Jing Zhongxiu to visit since the baby’s birth. Shangguan Ning wanted to get off the bed but Zhao Zhao pressed her down. “Mr. Jing is not an outsider, no need to be too polite. Just lie still! You are not allowed to get off the bed until a couple of days. You will get pain in your legs if you are out of the bed too often.”
Shangguan Ning wanted to protest that she was not that spoiled when she saw Zhao Zhao’s expressions and stopped herself from saying anything more.
She could tell that Zhao Zhao still held grudges against Jing Zhongxiu. Zhao Qing was her only sister, and she died because of another woman’s involvement with Jing Zhongxiu.
Jing Zhongxiu knew what Zhao Zhao thought of him. He felt very guilty facing her so he did not respond to her or blame Shangguan Ning for not getting up from the bed.
He had stayed away for this long from the baby because he was aware of Zhao Zhao’s presence there. He tried to avoid it because her presence always made him uncomfortable.
But he just couldn’t stand it any more. He had not seen the face of his grandson even after four days of him being born!
