“Do you want to come upstairs?”

Caroline glanced at the bright lights upstairs and understood. “You’re here to see Kirk, right?”
“Yes. I–I mean, no.” Charles spoke incoherently like a ment*lly disturbed lunatic.
“I’m not here to see …”
Caroline’s gaze landed on Charles, and she asked suspiciously, “How does Kirk usually make you
work? How did you end up like this?”
“No!” Charles laughed. His brain wasn’t functioning anymore.
He had been intensively searching for information about Dolly and the mysterious person for the
past few days.
His mind was now full of data and statistics, and his mouth was opening and closing instinctively.
He explained, “Sir asked me to investigate Dolly and the mysterious person. He told me Dolly was
an actress, and the mysterious person contacted you in Macovo, madam.”
Caroline didn’t notice the change in Charles‘ address at all. All her attention was on how he had
been investigating Dolly and the mysterious person.
She had thought Kirk was being half–hearted when he said that he would investigate. But seeing
how Charles was getting worked to the bone, Caroline felt mixed emotions.
She looked upstairs in a daze. She could tell that Kirk wanted to find out what happened. But if he
didn’t explain why he was already married, she wouldn’t let this go, no matter what.
Even if he had another wife because of his family, like Helena had said, she could understand.

Caroline returned to her senses and looked at Charles, who was still shaking. “Did you find out
anything?”

Charles lamented, “So I thought of just visiting him and letting him send me away to a winter
country to raise penguins.”
Caroline couldn’t resist laughing at his words. “He said he would send you away if you couldn’t
find anything?”
Charles nodded slowly.
Caroline rolled her eyes and said to Charles, “Let’s go upstairs.”
“No, I haven’t decided whether to leave the country.”

The elevator reached her floor. When they reached the door, Caroline opened it and pulled Charles
into her home.
Kirk, who was busy in the kitchen, heard noises and walked out happily. But he frowned when he
saw Charles behind Caroline. Couldn’t his assistant give them some time to themselves?
When Charles saw Kirk, his tired brain finally worked again. Realizing what he had just said, he
wanted to run away.
He had run to Caroline’s apartment to look for Kirk because his mind was frazzled from working.
He didn’t actually want to get deported to an exotic country.

A grown man like Charles had ended up like this because of him.
Charles was grateful to Caroline for speaking up for him. But to survive, he gritted his teeth and
met Kirk’s eyes. He said fearlessly, “It’s not a tough job, madam. This isn’t taxing for me at all.”
Charles‘ words dumbfounded Caroline. It was so pitiful.
