There’s quite frankly quite a lot of stuff to break down in this fight, but I think it’s very important to note that Henson-san seems to have frozen very briefly on several occasions. I certainly am not going to give my potential competition any hints on where, but it’s most notable early in the fight, and he does it a lot less later on.

The instant Ninetales comes out, that immediately changes. I’m almost certain that some telepathy was involved, but I can’t really say for sure. All I have to go on are my own experiences with my team, after all.

@LoPwny99 I see you have not had the honor of facing any competently trained and motivated non-evolved Pokemon. Respect those that choose not to evolve, they tend to have a reason for it. Perhaps another thread could educate you on the subject. Ketchum’s certainly would.

Me and Smeargle were on Mt. Chimney doing a landscape a few days ago when we saw that flamethrower clear the sky of clouds. I thought that was Moore’s Typhlosion seeing how far it could push its flames, it seems that Henson was practicing for his match, insane.

@Waffles We here at the Lavaridge Ranger Station would like to wish Mr. Henson well on his journey through the rest of the Hoenn league this season. Where he and his lovely walking natural disaster fox can be someone else’s problem. Unrelated PSA: Just because Mt. Chimney is a volcano does not mean it’s alright to melt the landscape.

Holy shit, if his Grovyle, that’s weak against a fire type could tank a flamethrower and come out the winner, I can’t wait to see what his Shinx could do when they get to the water gym. I just love to see some good ole fish frying. He had that pokemon for a while didn’t he? At least longer than that Octillery if we go by how his info got updated. My electric team would love some tips from him once we see how he blasts. And the whole shinx line is just the best man.

Replied On July 20th 20XX:

@Sakatsuki I know right! Were Ketchum still in Kanto I would have loved to throw down against a Pikachu that powerful.

@FryThoseWater Shinx seems pretty young, going by what we know of it. Likely something he just hatched recently. I know there are some Pokemon species that are willing to throw down while only a few days old, but Shinx isn’t one of them. Especially not at the Elite level.

FryThoseWater (Verified Trainer)

Replied On July 20th 20XX:

@PoisonedFaith I still know that much at least, but they still got a good while to go before the end of the gym circuit. Although Lee and his group does seem to be pushing pretty fast… so maybe it’ll be too soon. I guess the flying gym is another good spot to showcase that baby shinx. I just want more shinx love, that Ninetales is great and all, but they are way too rare for me to even daydream about.

So, having looked at a lot of the trainers for this year… I’m staying in the forest, I’m not even letting my Volcarona be within 20 miles of the gyms this year. I swear I saw some dude with some Metagross in a gym that wasn’t Steven Stone, a Ninetales that contests with hyper beams, a PIKACHU THAT ONE SHOT WATTSON, and some dude using a conductor’s wand to direct his team. This year is a horror show of talent.

Haha fox go brrrr. Yo for real though, WTF was that?! Those are some really old Pokémon that geezer was tossing around and they were killing it! Ignoring the super rookie who looks like he went the distance with a blender, those old Pokémon must have been absolute monsters back in the day. I can’t tell how strong they would have been. Yeesh, sure am glad that I’m all the way in Unova. If fourth badges were that hard to get, I wouldn’t have made it to the conference my second year, let alone my first .

I know everyone is obsessed with Henson's fights but I want to know what he's doing in the care department. I haven’t seen pokemon in the battle circuit in such pristine condition while tramping through the wilderness before. I would love to talk to him about his care routine for his 9T. The breeding community would be remiss not to pick his brain.

Dear god, 9T and Ty would be absolute awful captures. Ty is probably in his twilight years atp, but holy shit. I heard from someone in Lavaridge that 9T's flamethrower can melt CLOUDS! She's an absolute beast and if she's only just evolved, she's gonna be even worse by the time the conference comes around. Her raw power plus Lee's ingenuity with moves, for fucks sake. Anyone running against them has got to bring their A game

Damn, for all that Ninetails was ridiculously impressive/scary there, I can’t help but focus on Grovile’s performance. I’ve never seen one that could maneuver mid-air like that, and the fact he could even survive that fight, nevermind actually win was both nuts and inspiring to me.

The Treecko line is one of my favorites, and I’m hoping I might be able to get one when I head to Hoen in a year or two (me and Charmelion still have work to do here in Kanto) and this has just made me even more determined to get one on my team.

@Glasses_Man and @WitchHatStrat, Hey, I just want to bring up this line of talk again, cause this thread seems to be getting a TON of views. I'm trying to train my Noibat, Drummer, to talk, or in pokemon/human telepathy (I know Noibats are supposed to be psychic), or hell to read and write! But I seem to be getting nowhere. All the books I find on this sort of thing seem to contradict each other, and that one collar I bought off the internet which was supposed to translate pokemon into normal speech was a total lie and waste of money! Is anyone publishing REAL information on this?? Drummer is trying, I know she is, and she's SUPER smart, she understands and responds to everything I say, and is really sad when she can't seem to get it, and I'm not psychic or anything myself. What do I do??

►Sakatsuki (Fairy Type Specialist)

Replied On July 20th 20XX:

@Ian_the_Great Noibat aren’t psychic by traditional means, actually. They can have the ability “Telepathy”, but it’s fairly rare and uncommon. I’d recommend asking a fellow student, a trainer with some freetime, or someone along the lines who has a Pokemon capable of telepathy to help though. It’s not exactly a well kept secret, but a lot of trainers tend to hide, conceal, or blataantly provide misinformation online. An alternative you could pursue is teaching Drummer how to spell, which can lead to some slow communication via keyboard; Noibat have the digits to slowly use one.

►Ian_the_Great (Verified Student)

Replied On July 20th 20XX:

@Sakatsuki, Thanks! I seem to have gotten a lot of misinformation, yea. Is that ability 'telepathy' something they can learn, like via Machine or training? How do I tell whether she has that ability or not? I don't have a lot of resources, tbh. Regardless, I wouldn't trade her for the world! We've been trying to vary her vocalizations, she makes a ton of cool sounding noises, and that's been doing well so far. I had the idea of words and letters, but I don't really know how to teach someone who can't say the letters or words out loud? Do I just read kid's books to her a lot and set up a keyboard where she has access to it? I can't imagine teaching a pokemon to read or type is the same as teaching a human child, otherwise you'd find more pokemon able to do it, right??

Replied On July 20th 20XX:

As it is, there is at least telepathy occurring , Henson only said four audible words to his Ninetales in the entire match! I think there’s more, though, something deeper. Henson was jittery at times behind his other team members, but when his Ninetales took the field he calmed right down. Wasn’t phased at all until he called that final flamethrower. Almost looked like a completely different battler. They’ve only known each other for a few months, but she’s a deeply calming influence, if that match is anything to go by. There’s not many things that can engender the kind of bond they so clearly have, and I know where my thoughts are going.

@Ian_the_Great I’ve only seen one Pokeman that can speak a human language fluently, but we don’t know enough about that specific Meowth to really say anything. He apparently belongs to some traveling freelancers or something?

Well, clearly I need to have a serious sit down and rethink how I am approaching my career as a trainer if someone with no credentials or history can do this after only a few months. While I have no doubt a lot of that is talent from the trainer and both talent and breeding for the ‘mons, clearly Hensen is doing something else that I have overlooked. First things first, get a monster of a pokemon. Second, evolve them. Third, ??? Fourth, profit! Or fame and a good league showing, same thing really.

That said, which way to the betting threads? I got a cool couple hundred to drop on Hensen getting at least top four.

Edit: YES! Finally verified status! … And now I am sad that I am/was excited about that.

Several people on previous pages mentioned Ninetales had intense flamethrower in the skies near Lavaridge. Was that the reason for the Weather Institute suddenly changing the forecast for the east coast a few days ago? They mentioned it was due to Pokémon in that region but I had assumed it was a pack of Torkoal in the Valley of Steel or something. My Bellosum was pleasantly surprised by the sunshine instead of light overcast. Surely I'm overthinking it?

I don't understand why people treat Henson as the second-coming of Arceus. His Pokémon is strong but his battling sucks. Like, use your Corvisquire instead of your Grovyle. Yes type isn't everything, but it's not like Corvisquire is weak, and that Grovyle is the weakest link in the party. Particularly when Mura Moore famously loves his Fire Terrain move which doesn't matter for flying types. Later, he didn't use the opportunity he gained with Gunk Shot to do anything, Henson just stood there and let Arcanine recover. And with Ninetales, his only verbal order was to strike back with Flamethrower against a HYPER BEAM, which has to be one of the stupidest commands ever. Light Screen, Detect, or even just dodging would have done it. Instead, he bet against a literal war machine and only won because he has a Ninetales.

Compare that to Birch, who actually uses more than 2 brain cells when he battles, or that random new dude who uses a conductor's baton. Heck, he almost won with his wimpy Pokémon. Or, like any gym leader or any one of the Elite 4. I just hate that he overshadows the actual battler talent.

@DarkSpike69 Ayo Mister Emo, that sounds like a YOU problem. Speaking like you are some big shot, but do you have the ball to back it up? We can clearly see that Ty is a freaking monster and I doubt you can follow all of your strategy so well when facing that Hyper Beam. Honestly, show the man some respect!

So I was looking at some of the ranger maps of the valley of steel, and apparently among the acid pools and metal contaminated pools there are some pools of water in the area that are clean enough to actually be liveable. Maybe Lee got his Octillery at one of those? Hard to say because those maps tend to be more out of date than normal due to the lack of trainers strong enough to regularly cover the place. But hopefully this is the case and not because some asshole decided to release a water type into an acid pool. Still have nightmares about that time I responded to reports about this idiot releasing his Horsea into a mudpot over at Cinnabar.
