Chapter 211: Clarification
Chapter 211: Clarification
Michael cleared his throat as if to cover his shock at Mrs. Skies' proposal.
"Are you serious?" Michael asked, wanting clarification.
Elena simply nodded in confirmation.
"You want to buy both of my companies, Reyes Pharmaceuticals, and Reyes MedTech Solutions, for 100 billion dollars, so like fifty billion each?" Michael asked for clarification, his mind racing with the magnitude of the offer.
"Yes, Mr. Reyes," Elena responded calmly, her gaze steady. "We believe that your companies have significant potential in the global market, especially with your recent advancements in medical technology and pharmaceuticals. Aegis Pharmaceuticals would like to integrate your operations into our global strategy."
"Hmm…I do think the same. My company has unlimited potential. We have a lot of technologies that we can offer to the world that would yield a significant amount of money. So yeah…as much as the price is tempting, I don't think I can sell my company to you because I believe it would be worth more than that in the coming years," Michael explained.
"Mr. Reyes, I understand your vision and the attachment you have to your companies. However, think of the synergy between Aegis and Reyes Pharmaceuticals. Together, we could accelerate not only the growth of your projects but also increase their impact on a global scale much faster than you could independently."
She paused, allowing her words to sink in, then continued with a more persuasive tone.
"We are prepared to invest not just financially, but also by sharing our extensive research and development network, our global market access, and our regulatory expertise to ensure your innovations reach as many people as possible, quickly and effectively."
"Your proposal does hold considerable merit, Ms. Skies," Michael admitted. "And I am somewhat inclined to consider it more seriously."
Elena sensed the shift in his stance and added, "We are fully committed to respecting the ethos and the operational philosophies that have made Reyes Pharmaceuticals and Reyes MedTech Solutions pioneers in the healthcare industry despite it being new."
"Hmm…" Michael stroked his chin.
"How about I increase my offer? From 100 billion dollars to 200 billion? That is a lot of money and you can use that money to fund your next enterprises because as far as I know, in a year or two, you'd start another company in another industry."
Michael chuckled as he nodded, partly amused and partly impressed by Elena's aggressive negotiating style.
"You're quite the negotiator, Ms. Skies. Doubling the offer is indeed a bold move."
"But," Michael paused, his expression turning serious again, "while the figure is certainly substantial, it's not just about the money. I've built these companies from the ground up. They're not just businesses; they're a part of who I am. I need to ensure that whatever happens, the integrity and future of the technologies we've developed are preserved."
Elena leaned back, assessing Michael's response. "I completely understand that, Mr. Reyes. This is why Aegis Pharmaceuticals is the right partner for you. We have the resources to scale your innovations globally while adhering to the ethical standards you've set. Together, we can bring about real change in the medical field."
Michael considered her words carefully. "I respect what Aegis has accomplished and your personal commitment to ethical practices. However, such a decision requires more than just my agreement. I need to discuss this with my board. They've supported me through everything, and their input is critical."
"Of course," Elena replied respectfully. "Take all the time you need. We want this partnership to start on the right foot, with all parties feeling confident and comfortable with the decision."
"Oh so now you are willing to wait," Michael observed. "Earlier this day you were urging me to meet you as soon as possible. It seemed like an emergency."
Elena offered a slight smile, acknowledging the change in her approach. "You're right, Mr. Reyes. I did press for a quick meeting. It's because I truly believe in the urgency and potential of this partnership. However, I also understand the importance of due diligence and proper consultation.
It's clear you value the same."
Michael nodded, appreciative of her understanding yet still cautious. "I will consult with my board and we will discuss all aspects of your offer. You'll have our answer soon. I hope you understand that such a decision cannot be rushed."
"Absolutely," Elena agreed. "I look forward to your board's feedback and I am hopeful for a positive response."
Elena rose to her feet and extended her hand once more. This time, Michael took it firmly. "Thank you for understanding, Mrs. Skies. I will get back to you as soon as possible."
"Thank you, Mr. Reyes. I appreciate your consideration," Elena said with a nod before she turned and left the office with the same composed poise with which she had entered.
Once Elena had departed, Michael sat back in his chair, exhaling deeply. Juliet walked forward and offered him a glass of water.
"Thank you," Michael said as he grabbed the glass, taking a sip to calm his thoughts. He set the glass down and looked up at Juliet, who stood attentively nearby.
"Shall I set up the virtual conference with the board now?" Juliet asked, her tone indicating readiness to proceed with whatever Michael needed next.
"Yes, please do that, Juliet. Let's schedule it for tomorrow morning. Make sure everyone is available," Michael replied, his mind already shifting towards the preparation needed for the board meeting.
"I'll take care of it right away," Juliet assured him, pulling out her phone to begin the arrangements. "I'll send out the invites and confirm as soon as possible."
"Ohh…looks like Ms. Bridget von Reimann already accepted the invitation in an instant."
"She must be doing nothing then," Michael chuckled softly, taking another sip of his water.
"Keep me updated on who else confirms, and let's make sure the agenda is clear—we need to discuss every aspect of this potential deal in detail."
"Absolutely, I'll ensure everyone gets the briefing documents tonight so they can come prepared," Juliet responded, typing swiftly on her phone to coordinate the necessary communications.
"But, Mr. Reyes, are you considering selling the company to them?" Juliet inquired curiously.
"Well if it's the right price, I might. Besides, I'm already thinking of another enterprise that I should hop on next, one that doesn't attract enemies."
"Hmm?" Juliet tilted her head to the side.
"I noticed that whenever I start a company, a big player in the industry I joined would try to undermine me. I don't want it happening again. And I think that if I were to refuse Aegis's offer, I might be their target…you know, assassination. They have the capability to do that after all."
Juliet gulped after hearing that grim possibility.
