Chapter 221: The Commotion in the Light Show
"Michael Reyes, an industrial magnate, has unveiled his new main office in the BGC."
"Now we know who was the owner of the Golden Topper that was being built in the center of the BGC. Who could have thought that it would be a Filipino businessman?"
"This is quite a shock from the business world, but also a proud moment for the Philippines. Michael Reyes has truly made a mark with this impressive skyscraper."
Media outlets buzzed with the news of the unveiling. Reports poured in from all directions, with journalists and news anchors discussing the significance of the Golden Topper.
"This building is a testament to the growing influence of Filipino entrepreneurs on the global stage," one news anchor commented. "It's not just about the structure itself, but what it represents for the future of business in the Philippines."
Social media was equally abuzz. Influencers and netizens alike shared their reactions, flooding platforms with posts, photos, and videos of the grand opening.
On Twitter, the hashtag #GoldenTopper trended within hours. "Did you see the unveiling of the Golden Topper? Absolutely stunning! #ProudPinoy #GoldenTopper" tweeted one user.
Another tweet read, "Michael Reyes is changing the game! His new office in the BGC is a symbol of Filipino excellence. #GoldenTopper #Inspiration."
Instagram was filled with pictures of the skyscraper, its sleek design capturing the attention of users. Influencers posted stories and reels from the event, showcasing the elegant interior and the cutting-edge amenities.
One influencer captioned her post, "Attended the unveiling of the Golden Topper today! The building is gorgeous, and the vibe is just amazing. Michael Reyes has outdone himself! #GoldenTopper #BGC."
Michael was, of course, reading all those tweets, messages, and headlines that were making their way into the internet.
"Sir, the engagement we are getting on the internet is phenomenal," Juliet exclaimed, barely able to contain her excitement.
Michael looked up, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "I've been reading some of the posts. It's incredible to see how well the unveiling has been received."
Juliet nodded, scrolling through the data on her tablet. "We've seen a huge spike in social media activity. The hashtag #GoldenTopper is trending, and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. People are really impressed with the building and what it represents for the company and the country. I'm sure a lot of people would visit the Golden Topper in the evening."
"Oh, they are expecting the lights," Michael chuckled. "Let's make sure we don't disappoint."
Juliet grinned. "We've planned a spectacular light show for tonight. The Golden Topper will be the brightest spot in the BGC. It's going to be quite a sight."
"Perfect," Michael said and then remembered something. "Juliet, about the Virtual Reality Gaming Pod, how was our lawyer dealing with it?"
Juliet's expression turned serious. "Given the nature of the technology, our lawyers are still assessing if it can be released to the public without further regulatory review. There are significant concerns about safety and the long-term effects of the neural interface."
Michael sighed. "I figured as much. Virtual reality is a realm of science that is not yet understood by many. Imagine the other underhanded uses of the neural interface, let's say the government gets involved."
Juliet nodded. "We have to tread carefully. The potential is enormous, but so are the risks. Our legal team is working on ensuring we have all bases covered before we proceed."
Michael leaned back in his chair, thinking. "Let's not get excited, let's move the launch date of our gaming enterprise by two years, I want it to be absolutely safe and well-received. We need to take every precaution and ensure the technology is foolproof."
Juliet nodded. "That's a wise decision, sir. It's better to be cautious and avoid any potential backlash. I'll inform the team and adjust our timelines accordingly."
Michael appreciated Juliet's support and professionalism. "Thank you, Juliet. We need to focus on the long-term success and safety of our projects. This is just the beginning."
As the evening approached, the anticipation for the light show at the Golden Topper grew. Michael stood by the window, looking out at the crowd gathering below. Normally, cars filled the street, but this time, it was people. They were like ants moving toward the base of the Golden Topper, eager to witness the spectacle.
"Juliet, let's head downstairs and join the celebration," Michael said, turning away from the window. "It's time to share this moment with everyone."
They made their way to the ground floor, where a stage had been set up for the event. Michael was greeted by applause and cheers from the crowd. He took the stage, looking out at the sea of faces, all eager to witness the culmination of his hard work.
"Thank you all for being here tonight," Michael began. "I must admit, this is really a beautiful building and a significant milestone for Reyes Corporation."
The crowd cheered, and Michael paused.
"This skyscraper represents our commitment to innovation, excellence, and the future of business in the Philippines. I am incredibly proud of what this company achieved. You all knew my backstory. I'm just a mere college student who has no prospects in life but now I stand here making a difference on the global stage. There will be challenges along the way of course…"
While Michael was making a speech, a couple was watching from the stage.
"Who could have thought that Michael would grow this much," Catherine said, looking up at Joshua.
Joshua had a rather neutral expression on his face, his hands clenched into fists.
"I couldn't believe it either. Is he really human?" Joshua remarked.
"Why do you sound so displeased?" Catherine asked, concerned.
"Because he is not the man I met a few years prior. I thought he was just an average college student," Joshua said frustratingly. "But look at him now. He's achieved so much in such a short amount of time. So much more than myself."
"Well if you look at it, he had established himself in different industries. Unlike you Joshua, you were still doing that potato chips and networking."
Joshua cast a side-eye at Catherine. He felt insulted and disrespected. "That's not fair, Catherine. I've worked hard on my business too."
Catherine sighed, realizing she had hit a nerve. "I'm sorry, Joshua. I didn't mean it like that. Michael's journey is just so surprising."
"So you are saying, he is better than me?" Joshua inquired with glaring eyes.
"Objectively speaking, yes he is better," Catherine replied, trying to stay calm.
"Okay, he is better than me?!" Joshua's tone rose, frustration evident.
Catherine took a step back, sensing his anger. "What's the matter with you?"
Joshua scoffed, looking away. "What the…I'm your boyfriend, and I don't like being compared to another man. Are you looking down on me? Huh?!"
Joshua grabbed Catherine on her shoulders with a tight grip.
"Joshua…ow…" Catherine winced in pain. "You are hurting me."
The people around them started to notice the commotion. Joshua's grip on Catherine's shoulders tightened, his frustration boiling over.
"Let go of me!" Catherine pleaded, her voice strained.
Michael, finishing his speech, noticed the disturbance in the crowd.
"What's happening over there?" he asked concernedly.
Several people in the crowd turned to look, and a few security personnel moved quickly towards the commotion. Michael saw and recognized them.
"Wait..isn't it Joshua and Catherine?" Michael thought to himself. It was indeed them, the daughter of Mrs. Estolas and Joshua, the CEO of the famous potato chip business in the Philippines.
Why do they look like they are fighting? A couple's quarrel perhaps?
"If you two have issues, I suggest that you do not handle them here," Michael said sternly as he approached. "This is not the time or place for a personal dispute."
Joshua turned to Michael, his face streaked with anger. He released Catherine, who stumbled back slightly, rubbing her shoulders.
"Do not make a scene at this event. I don't want it to be ruined by personal matters," Michael said firmly, his eyes locked on Joshua.
Joshua's anger faltered under Michael's stern gaze. He took a step back, his fists unclenching. He can't make this worse or his company will be affected by the backslash from the netizens and his investors. So he complied without saying a word.
Seeing that they were over quarreling, Michael turned to his guests and spoke.
"...Sorry about that small hiccup. So where was I? Ah, yes, I want you all to enjoy the lights of the Golden Topper, which will be turned on in ten, nine…"
The crowd joined in, counting down with Michael. "Eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!"
The moment Michael reached one, the Golden Topper lit up, illuminating the night sky with a brilliant display of colors. The lights danced across the building's sleek exterior, creating a mesmerizing show that left the crowd in awe. Gasps and cheers filled the air as the light show continued, showcasing the architectural beauty of the skyscraper.
Michael stood back, watching the reactions of his guests. And he remembered Catherine and Joshua. It's been so long since he last talked to them. Perhaps this is a perfect time? This also reminded him of his father, he wondered where he was now after his successes in the medical industry.
