Chapter 302: Back to Work, Building the PH the Navy It Needs

September 17th, 2028.

"What the heck…" one of the people walking by the sidewalk of the BGC exclaimed softly and immediately pulled out his phone as he just saw one of the supercars roaming. It was the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, gleaming under the city lights as it cruised down the street.

Inside the car, Michael was at the wheel, a satisfied smile on his face. Bridget sat beside him and took notes of the reaction of the people outside.

"They are liking it," Bridget observed.

"It's not every day they get to see a supercar like this," Michael replied, his tone filled with pride.

They continued their drive, turning heads and drawing admiration wherever they went. Soon, they approached the Golden Topper.

Michael pulled up to the main entrance, where a valet immediately approached, recognizing him.

"Good morning, Mr. Reyes," the valet greeted with a respectful nod, clearly impressed by the car.

"Be careful with this John, this beast is brand new," Michael said as he handed over the key to the valet and gave him a pat behind the back.

"I will take care of it with utmost care, sir," John assured him, carefully taking the keys and stepping into the driver's seat with a look of awe.

Michael and Bridget stepped out of the car, drawing more admiring glances from the onlookers. As they walked towards the entrance, they saw Juliet standing there, waving a hand towards them.

"It was a beautiful car, Mr. Reyes," Juliet commented. "When did you purchase it?"

"About yesterday…" Michael said. "We just bought it because I realized that I didn't have one. Though I would say that car was an unnecessary expense, it gives you this commanding presence on the road. I'll keep buying another but I'll probably store them."

Juliet nodded a smile on her face. "Well, it definitely makes an impression."

"Ready for today's meeting with one of the representatives of the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems?"

"Thys—how do you pronounce that again?" Michael asked, frowning slightly.

"ThyssenKrupp," Juliet repeated with a smile.

"Oh yeah…Bridget, you should come with me to that meeting as they definitely would like to see familiar faces."

"I was already informed by Juliet about your plan to license one of their frigates for the Philippine Navy?" Bridget said. "I will help you, after all, I'm from Germany and the people there knew my family and definitely the ThyssenKrupp."

"Great…let's go upstairs, we can't make them wait long," Michael said, leading the way to the elevator.

As they ascended, Bridget and Juliet discussed some final details about the meeting, ensuring they were well-prepared for the discussions ahead. The elevator doors opened, and they were greeted by a receptionist who guided them to the conference room.

Inside, representatives from ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems were already seated, reviewing documents. Dr. Hans Müller, a distinguished-looking man in his early fifties, stood up as they entered.

"Good morning, Mr. Reyes," Dr. Müller said, extending his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Good morning, Dr. Müller," Michael replied, shaking his hand firmly. "Thank you for coming. I'd like to introduce my Chief of Staff Juliet Schmidt and Bridget von Reimann. I'm sure you are familiar with them as they are from Germany?"

"Oh yes of course, especially you Lady Bridget," Muller shook hands with Bridget, a respectful smile on his face. "It's an honor to meet you, Lady Bridget. Your family's contributions to Germany are well known."

Bridget returned the smile warmly. "Thank you, Dr. Müller. It's a pleasure to meet you as well. We're very excited about the potential collaboration."

With introductions made, everyone took their seats around the large conference table. Michael began the meeting by outlining the objectives and the vision he had for enhancing the capabilities of the Philippine Navy with ThyssenKrupp's advanced technologies.

"Dr. Müller, we're very interested in exploring how your frigate, specifically the Baden-Württemberg-class frigate. I'd like my shipbuilding company to manufacture one of those and sell it exclusively to the Philippine Navy. I always wanted my country to have a strong navy, given the current geopolitical tension it has with neighboring countries. So how much would it cost us?"

Dr. Müller leaned forward, considering Michael's proposal. "The Baden-Württemberg-class frigate is indeed one of our most advanced vessels, designed for versatility and high performance in various maritime operations. Licensing the design for local manufacturing is a complex process, but it can be done."

He paused, looking at the documents in front of him. "The cost of the licensing fee alone is approximately 500 million euros. This covers the transfer of technology, design specifications, and initial support for setting up your shipbuilding facilities to meet our standards."

Michael nodded, absorbing the information. "And what about the cost per unit once we start manufacturing?"

"Each frigate would cost approximately 600 million euros to produce, depending on the specific configurations and any additional systems or customizations you might require," Dr. Müller replied.

"600 million euros huh? That's four times more than the Jose Rizal Class Frigate but more advanced," Michael noted thoughtfully.

Dr. Müller nodded. "Indeed, the Baden-Württemberg-class offers superior capabilities in terms of firepower, surveillance, and endurance. However, it's crucial to ensure that the investment aligns with the strategic goals of the Philippine Navy."

Juliet added, "You should consider if the Philippine Navy would purchase the frigate because it is expensive, and I don't think, given the current standing of the Philippine Navy, they would acquire something more expensive."

"Well, I think the Philippine Navy should invest a significant amount of money into building the navy," Michael said. "If we don't, well I don't think the country would stand a chance in a war with bigger fish."

Dr. Müller nodded thoughtfully. "It's worth the investment and a great deterrent. The Baden-Württemberg-class frigate offers unparalleled capabilities in terms of both defense and offense. Its advanced radar systems, missile systems, and overall versatility would significantly enhance the strategic posture of the Philippine Navy."

"That is why I'm going to tell the Philippine Government. And I want to help my country so let's go with the deal—"

"I think you should lower the amount," Bridget interjected, interrupting Michael. "Come on, Doctor. My family and the ThyssenKrupp have a great relationship with one another.

Bridget's interruption brought a momentary pause to the conversation, but Dr. Müller smiled, understanding the nature of negotiations. "Lady Bridget, I appreciate your candor and your family's long-standing relationship with ThyssenKrupp. While the prices I mentioned reflect the current market value and the high level of technology and support involved, I am open to discussing potential adjustments."

"Thank you for considering," Bridget said.

With a nod of agreement from Michael, they all rose to their feet, signaling the end of the initial discussion.

Dr. Müller extended his hand once more. "We will need to consult with our higher-ups and discuss these potential adjustments. I'll make sure to expedite this process and get back to you within the week."

Michael shook his hand firmly. "We appreciate your willingness to work with us, Dr. Müller. This partnership could be very beneficial for both of our countries."

Bridget and Juliet followed suit, shaking hands with Dr. Müller and the other representatives.

As they left the conference room, Michael turned to his team. "I think that went well. Now we just need to wait for their response and prepare our pitch for the Philippine government."
