Chapter 53 Stay Away from Men

"Chaim?" Alexia looked at her husband standing at the door in surprise. "Why are you here?"

Chaim ignored her, staring at Nathaniel's hand on top of her head with an icy gaze.

Sensing his displeasure, Nathaniel calmly removed his hand and explained to Alexia with a light smile. "I was the one who called him over. You were discharged from the hospital today and I had him come and pick you up."

"Ah, I see." Alexia nodded in a dazed manner.

Chaim walked toward the two of them and asked again. "What were you doing just now?"

"Chaim don't misjudge what you saw. Alexia had a piece of lint in her hair and I helped her get it out," Nathaniel explained. "Right, sister?"

Alexia didn't want Chaim to misunderstand anything, so she nodded along with the lie. "Right."

"Where's the lint then, show me." Chaim pursed his thin lips.

Alexia's heart raced as she panicked.

‘It's over, he's getting serious!’ Where was she going to find some lint for him to look at! It was Nathaniel's fault. Why did he touch her hair?

Thinking, Alexia glared at Nathaniel with dissatisfaction on her face.

Nathaniel rubbed his nose before responding. "Sorry, Chaim. I can't show you. I've already dropped the lint on the floor to be swept up later. Anyway, I’m sure you two have things to discuss so I’ll show myself out."

With that, Nathaniel waved and walked away quickly, before Chaim could stop him.

"Chaim... " Alexia started.

Chaim interrupted her with a cold and sullen face. "Alexia, stay away from him and from other men in the future! Do you hear me?"

Chaim hadn't been there for days, and her relationship with Nathaniel had grown into a friendship. It was clear Nathaniel had looked down on her in his words before, but now...

And that Joseph Swift of the Swift Group, too. The day she signed the contract, actually asked about her too. ‘Does this woman even know she's married?’

"That's fine, it's not like I have any male friends anyway," Alexia responded and froze.

Chaim's face improved slightly "Where's the luggage?"

"It’s there on the bed." Alexia pointed to the suitcase beside her.

Chaim walked over and reached over to pull the handle out of the rolling suitcase. "Let's go."

"I'll do it." Alexia wanted to snatch the suitcase from him.

She was pleased that he was willing to come and pick her up. But it was a little uncomfortable for her to ask him to carry her things again.

"All right." Chaim put the suitcase back on the bed and looked at her expectantly. "Hurry up, I have to go to a meeting later."

"Oh."

Hearing the impatience in his voice, Alexia dared not say anything else and obediently followed him out. But as she walked, she kept feeling she had forgotten something and couldn’t remember.

It was only when she got into the car and saw Aunt Song that she realized she had forgotten about Aunt Song, which was embarrassing.

Back at the villa, Alexia sat on the sofa and stretched, lamenting. "It's still good to be at home."

When Chaim, who was putting his suitcase away, heard this, his expression was slightly stunned and he lightly spat out a word. "Home?" He turned his head to look at her. “Alexia."

"Hmm?" Alexia cocked her head. “What's wrong?"

"You think this is your home?"

Alexia hmmed. "Yeah, isn't this my home?"

When she married him, his home naturally became hers. It was the only home she’d ever known aside from her parents’.

Chaim pursed his thin lips. “You're still easily satisfied."

He was losing sight of her. Having been alone for three years, she still called the place home. What was going through her mind?

"Should I take that as a compliment from you?" Alexia looked at Chaim hopefully.

Chaim turned his head back. "Do whatever you want."

"Then I'll take it as a compliment." Alexia smiled, then her smile faded down, and she asked in a low tone. “Chaim, when you visited the hospital the past few days, why didn't you come and see me?"

He didn't know how much it hurt when she heard he had gone to see Evelyn and didn't even come to see her.

"No reason. You should rest. I have to go." Chaim's eyes flickered for a moment, and he lowered his eyes and said in a light voice.

Aunt Song came out of the kitchen with the tea she had made, just in time to see him hurrying away.

"Ms. Alexia, where is Mr. Lancaster going?"

Alexia shook her head. "I don't know. I asked him why he hadn't come to see me in the past few days and he left."

"Mr. Lancaster has been acting strange these last few days," Aunt Song muttered.

Alexia blinked in confusion. "Strange?"

"Yes. Ms. Alexia, you don't know, but two days ago when you were asleep, Mr. Lancaster actually came to see you, but for some reason, he just stood at the door and didn't go in. When I asked him why, he left," Aunt Song explained, pouring Alexia a cup of tea.

Alexia took it without drinking it, just holding it in her hand. "Did something happen?"

"I don’t think so. It didn’t seem like Mr. Lancaster in any kind of trouble. Maybe you ask him sometime?"

"It’s probably not a good idea. Plus, I don't think he'll talk to me anyway," Alexia said, taking a sip of water.

Aunt Song sighed and went about her business.

After sitting on the sofa for a while, Alexia went upstairs to her room and put the swan necklace into the jewelry cabinet to put it away. From then on, that necklace, for all intents and purposes, didn’t belong to her anymore. Alexia smiled as she looked at the swan necklace through the glass and turned to go to the bathroom, intending to take a shower and get some sleep.

Alexia woke up the next morning, changed her clothes, and yawned as she went downstairs.

It surprised Aunt Song to see her dressed up. "Ms. Alexia, you're going to work today?"

"Well, it's been a few days since I've been there, and it's time to go to work," Alexia responded.

Aunt Song was a bit uneasy. "But your body—"

"I’m already so much better." Alexia moved her arm to prove she was better.

Aunt Song was amused. "Alright then, let's have breakfast first."

"Good." Alexia followed her to the kitchen.

Chaim didn't come back that night, so Alexia was alone for breakfast and there was a lot left over at the end of the meal.

Aunt Song frowned at the sight. “Ms. Alexia, you haven't eaten much. Are you feeling okay?"

"I’m not very hungry," Alexia said, rubbing her stomach.

When Alexia woke up, she found that she had lost her appetite.

"Why don't you have an appetite, is there something wrong? Either you eat or don’t go in today!" Aunt Song said nervously.

Alexia laughed so hard she started to cry. "Don't worry Aunt Song, I'm fine, really. I’m sure the food from the hospital has messed with my appetite. I'll be fine tomorrow. I really need to leave now."

Alexia waved her hand, lifted her bag from a chair, and headed out the door.

Having not been to the office for several days, the moment Alexia stepped into the office door, she was once again greeted with all sorts of strange looks and whispers.

As she entered the elevator, she was still wondering if she was part of some kind of joke again.

"Aily!" Alexia just returned to her office and hadn't even had time to sit down when she saw Lynn pushing her way through the door in a blaze of glory.

"You're really here, I haven't seen you at the company for so long, I thought you’d quit." Lynn grabbed Alexia’s hand and looked her up and down with immense surprise. "Why do you look like you’ve lost so much weight? You don’t look too good, are you sick?”

“Yeah, I was. That’s why I called in sick for the past few days," Alexia said, drawing her hand back.

"What was wrong? You took off so many days! Are you okay now?” Lynn inquired with concern.

Alexia's heart warmed up as she poured a cup of water. "A minor illness. I needed a small operation and now I’m fine."

"You call having surgery a minor illness?" Lynn asked in shock.

Alexia hurriedly shushed her. "Keep your voice down!"

Lynn nodded repeatedly and lowered her voice. "Aily, you didn’t have an abortion, did you? Otherwise what surgery can have you discharged so quickly?"
