Chapter 65 - Unexpected news
Right at nine am, she heard a knock. Jing Lihua gave herself a look in the mirror and smiled satisfactorily. She looked gorgeous. After picking up her pouch bag, she opened the door with a confident smile but her smile dropped and changed to a confused frown when she saw a totally unexpected man standing at her door.
"Heng Bingwen? What in the seven Hells are you doing here?"
"There something very important I must tell you!" He was gasping for air. It seemed like he had run all the way here. And indeed, it was true. After he got the news, he went straight to the airport and took the latest flight to Hong Kong. He didn’t even wait for a second for rest and ran straight to where his President was residing.
"Alright. Come in first." Considering the gravity of the situation Jing Lihua let him in and guided him to the couches. She even brought him a glass of water. "Now tell me exactly what happened?"
Heng Bingwen looked reluctant. "President, what I’m going to tell you is not going to be easy. I’m afraid you might be shocked greatly. Please prepare yourself well before I tell you this."
"You are now scaring me. I company alright?"
"It is alright. It’s about the DNA reports."
Suddenly Jing Lihua felt cold all over her body. Taking in a deep breath, she steadied her heart. The way Heng Bingwen had rushed all the way here. It must be bad news.
"Are you ready to listen?" Heng Bingwen asked with consideration.
"Yes, go on." Jing Lihua said in a calm voice but inside her heart was thumping loudly.
"Alright. It was not easy for me to get the DNA sample of your mother. I mean at the time of her death, her body was totally burned. Besides all the DNA reports from earlier were purposely eradicated by your grandfather. It seemed like he wanted to hide something. After much effort and using a lot of connections, I managed to get a DNA report at the time of her death. After that, I gave the reports to match your DNA. And President..." Heng Bingwen looked reluctant.
"Please say it..."
"The reports came out negative. I sent the samples of the DNA three times to confirm. But still negative."
Suddenly Jing Lihua felt weeks in her knees. She placed her hand on the table to support her body and managed to sit. With a self depreciative smile, she said. "So they were right, weren’t they?" In her last life, Jing Tian and her enemies had used the fact that she was not a Tang to their own advantage. She had been too scared to run a DNA test back then. She was scared that it might turn negative so she chose to live in oblivion.
"President, this is not all. There is more. You said you said you are ready. Please control yourself. There is a lot more I’ve to tell you." Heng Bingwen seemed to have expected the response from his President. He was genuinely concerned for her but he had to tell her everything.
"What is more to tell? I’m not a Tang. Listen heng Bingwen we’ll have to keep that a secret from everyone. If the truth leaks out, it’ll adversely affect our company."
"No... President listen to me. I still felt something was wrong so I used my means to get your father DNA. It was relatively easy to find his DNA. And you know what? Even his DNA didn’t match yours!"
"Isn’t it expected? I am not my mother’s daughter. She must have adopted me. Or my mother’s daughter, the rightful Tang, might be there someone in the world and I might have replaced her by accident. But I can’t say I’m not happy to find out that Jing Shuping isn’t my father. Somehow I knew it I can’t have a father like him. Though I can’t say the same for mother."
"President. Listen to me. After both your parents’ DNA reports didn’t match, I felt increasingly pressured. I tried all means to get your grandfather’s DNA. I did everything possible and put much more effort than before. I couldn’t find the enlisted date on his DNA. So I employed some men to get me a sample of his hair from his home. That was incredibly difficult but I succeeded. And when I sent the sample to the laboratory, it matched! President, it matched! I couldn’t believe it! I tried three different laboratories and repeated the tests several times. But still. It was positive. President, you are a Tang!"
When Jing Lihua heard this, she fell into silence. Then she raised her hand and hit Heng Bingwen. "You bastard! Couldn’t you start the story by telling me I was actually a Tang! Did you had to make such long explanations! Did you have to create such suspense?" Jing Lihua’s face was red with anger. If looks could kill, Heng Bingwen would have already been dead ten times by now.
"Ow! But President, then the story would have lost all the flavor if I started with that line! Ow! Don’t hit me! I worked so hard to get all those samples. If I simply told you that you are a Tang, how was I supposed t show how hard I worked! Ow!"
"You think it’s a joke? You took my breath away!" Jing Lihua chased him around the room.
Heng Bingwen felt like he really pissed off his President. He hadn’t seen her like that before. He hadn’t even seen anyone being hit by her. Afraid of her scary glares, he ran out of the room. Jing Lihua didn’t have the energy to chase him.
She fell on the couches and laughed. But at the same time, she felt like crying. "I don’t even know what to think anymore. I’m my grandfather’s granddaughter but I’m not my mother’s or father’s daughter. What I’m supposed to make of that? Was my mother adopted? But if she was adopted how came my DNA matched grandfather’s DNA. What is the meaning of this." Jing Lihua sighed when she felt like her brain was going to explode.
Thankfully to save her from going insane, Li Zhiqiang arrived after just five minutes.
